Sorry if this seems kind of trivial or obvious, I'm new to MM and even though it seems that things are going along smoothly, I was a little concerned about something that's already happened to me a lot here on MM and wanted to check with the experts So recently I've been contacted by a few legit, extremely talented photographers here on MM. They write that they would like to fly me out somewhere to shoot with them, or that they are traveling to my city and would like to shoot me with (for a large amount of money, at least that's how it seems to an amateur model!) The modeling they want me to do is fashion or lingerie/bikini stuff, they then ask me to send a list of "review" photos for them (beyond what's in my portfolio) including topless pictures (implied nudity) and shots in small bikinis. They ask me to take these pictures casually, with a webcam or camera phone. I really want to trust the people I meet here, but I just wanted to make sure this was a legit practice and not just a way to get free topless pics or something like that Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! I got the exact same thing and I caught it when he sent a check for WAY more then $1000! I have not deposited it or anything I I researched into it further. They want to send me 1000 up front then 2500 the day of the shoot. It sounded mildly legit but when they asked for my address I got a little concerned. I didn't send my address back. I was more worried about a stalker here in LA than a scam artist, clearly I need to cover all of my safety bases. That sucks that someone is out there crushing dreams. Dont get confused their is a genuine designer in London Fashion Week with this name but someone else is pretending to be him to get money from models. The scam artist is using the email address: [email protected] Do not respond to emails from this address. Whereas the real designer has his own email with his name in the email address as is very legit. The person could not spell, awful grammar. He mentioned one website which was a design/webpage site and had nothing to do with the clothing line he mentioned. Technically he did not mention any names. All he said was that he needs a model for a designer's webpage.. 12 outfits.. that's what stopped me from going further. Why 12? I thought" what is this? a calendar?" hehe why is it always 12 ????? Curious no? I'm surprised that after all these schemes, some of them cannot come up with the idea "wait! I'll say 5 and separate myself from the others" lol I actually wrote on my profile "no 12 pics for client's website" and ever since that I do not receive those messages. This is why I have an agency, and for things I book, I don't want to pay or get paid by mail. I would not give out my address and info to anyone unless they are an actual legitimate business. Besides for most jobs, the client has to pay my agency (sometimes there are 2 agencies involved) then my agency pays me and that can take up to 2 months. So I have hard time believing someone when they say they will pay me in advance. .. If it's too good to be true, they it usually is. there may be exceptions to the rule, but it will be smart to be skeptical.. just in case PS. we should all accept their checks but make them mail it to a P.O box. give it to a charity.
