I actually heard that some photographers use lights that don't pop up from their camera's too.

It might just be an urban legend though.

OMG that was so funny.  It didn't help the guys that made it used rotted wood as a base!  lol  Before us there were some big uns up there.  They asked that they not pull on the pole for fear of breaking it.  When we got up there it was shaky but the guy INSISTED it was ok for us 4 girls.  Uh it wasn't ok for a fly. LMAO  That was hilarious though!  At least no one fell on their head!  yikes
