Wireless trigger
This thing rocks. Got it in the mail yesterday and was surprised to the range on this bad boy. At least yards. Anyone else use it? May 20 08 11:11 am Link I'm using Nikon CLS for my shoots but its limitations drive me nuts sometimes, so might get one of these too. May 20 08 11:34 am Link I was just looking at this version http://www.opusprophoto.com/products/ac … tml#oplwts BTW how much did it go for? May 20 08 11:36 am Link I've got 2 of those. They're great. I just ordered another 6. May 20 08 11:36 am Link I use a couple of devices similar to that. One slipped out of the socket on a lamp on a stand TWICE the other day. Fell about 6 feet onto the concrete floor. Flew into several parts both times. Snapped it back together and then fixed it from slipping... works fine. May 20 08 11:38 am Link I use that one. It's cheap. Therefore, if I trash it shooting on location, I won't lose any sleep over it. May 20 08 11:38 am Link I don't have that exact model, but I have one similar. They're great. Work fine and if it breaks, it's 20 bucks or so to get another one (I had the hotshoe mount break off of one of them before). May 20 08 11:48 am Link I have three sets of this, but they are all 16 channel instead. I added an external antenna to the unit. The range is now about 150 ft. They all work great for a total of less than 65 dollars including shipping. It meets my needs quite nicely. If I am shooting Tyra b, I most likely will spring for a pair PW's. But until then these China craps, as many say, are OK with me. May 20 08 11:53 am Link I have 6 of them. Love them. Dont care if they get lost or break. They are disposable. May 20 08 11:55 am Link yeah I was impressed with the range. I set it up in my living room and went outside across the street and still fired. I'm happy May 20 08 11:56 am Link Digitallure Photography wrote: You need a slave that will attach to a stand, and the 285 slides onto the slave, like it does on the hot shoe of your camera. The slave will have an inlet where the 1/8 inch jack connects to. Then you can shoot wireless using the 285. I have a similar set up, which will also trigger my Canon 430EX. May 20 08 11:59 am Link Digitallure Photography wrote: You might have a newer model which have an internal antenna built-in (coiled wire). Mine doesn't. May 20 08 11:59 am Link I had 2 sets, one worked great the other fired 3 out of 4 time, so frustrating! I'm using Pocket Wizards II's now, mainly because of the remote module built into the flash meter. The range is far better with the PW and they fire every time, Love them!! May 20 08 12:01 pm Link Digitallure Photography wrote: You can use the short cable that comes with the Vivitar and plug it to the receiver's back, if you don't have it, B&H does, to hold it to my Vivitar, I use a rubber band:). T May 20 08 12:03 pm Link i swear by them. the only problem i ever had was the contact for the pc input los its solder point. i opened it up and re-soldered it in about a minute. works like a charm again. as already stated, by a few of these. for the price it make them damn near disposable, and yet, i have not had to replace the original ones i got yet....going on two years with moderate to heavy use. May 20 08 12:05 pm Link ward wrote: I see. I have a stand that holds the flas but it doesn't have an inlet. So i'll have to get a slave for the slave stand...lol??? May 20 08 12:06 pm Link Tito Trelles-MADE IN NY wrote: yeah, my 283 has the pc sync cord and i use it with that....more often i put the peanut slave on that one and have it fire off that as my quantum T2 will be the main flash (for location work), which has he RF triggers on it. May 20 08 12:07 pm Link I tested mine to work up to 85' with a direct line of sight. Just be sure to carry spare AAA. The receiver will run out of juice if you forget to turn it off. May 20 08 12:08 pm Link I got seven of them -- mixed between battery and AC -- on eBay for about $80 total. One of the smarter things I've ever done. I have already replaced the battery in the transmitter. May 20 08 12:08 pm Link Digitallure Photography wrote: I don't have a photo, or I'd show you. They made a slave unit that is threaded. It screws onto the threaded end of any light stand. The slave unit has a hot shoe mount for the flash. And, the slave unit also has an inlet for the 1/8 jack for the wireless receiver to connect to. Then you put the wireless transmitter on your camera's hot shoe, and voila ! Start shooting. May 20 08 12:09 pm Link Digitallure Photography wrote: i thought the 285 has the same capabilities as he 283. if not, then what he is talking about is a little hot shoe adpater tha holds the flash unit. on the back of it will be a pc sync input, or maybe a 1/8 inch input. the one i have has the pc connection. then you plug the RF trigger into that, via whatever way works. they come with a few different connectors and adapters. May 20 08 12:16 pm Link Wayver wrote: My first two I bought off e-Bay. The 3rd one (the one I have now) I bought in Henry's in Toronto because I needed one right away for a shoot. I'm on my 3rd one since I trashed the first two. May 20 08 12:17 pm Link These can be bought on Ebay. Some are very different. Most go for under $20.00 May 20 08 12:18 pm Link I just wish they would sell the things separately so I can just buy one or two transmitters and multiple receivers. May 20 08 12:22 pm Link I have some cactus v2's for my hotshoe setup... I believe this is just the 16 channel version? Anyways, cheap triggers are great for less than ideal conditions. I haven't had any issues with mine yet, and I have had my stands blow over with brolly boxes, killed the flash, put a tear in the brolly, trigger still works flawlessly. May 20 08 12:25 pm Link PYPI wrote: I got my Cactus V2s from Gadget Infinity on eBay. They do sell additional receivers by themselves. My purchase included one transmitter+receiver set and two additional receivers. MPEX sells the transmitters and the receivers a la carte. May 20 08 03:18 pm Link Digitallure Photography wrote: I tried so many of these from ebay and camera stores (samys) but non of them worked for my lights! May 20 08 04:18 pm Link i use the same as the OP as well. I bought three of them and they all work together nicely! One is a remote flash trigger for my vivitar 283 which i i found out does NOT need the sync cable to flash just recently. It works off the hotshoe on the flash trigger... pretty cool for less than $50 total May 20 08 04:20 pm Link Yes!! These babies are great and cheap enough so that everyone at a shoot can have one and not trade around. May 20 08 04:22 pm Link Mine ran $19 bucks including s&h Now just need to get something to hook it up with my vivitar 285. Any idea what it's called and where to get it? on Ebay or various other places you can get a pc socket to vivitar plug sync cord... only a couple of dollars each on ebay... I got mine for 283's there May 20 08 04:23 pm Link |
