So i dont get it then,  I just graduated from college and trying to get into the photography world. so if the photographer is the one who should be getting paid then why are there so many models out there who wont shoot unless you pay them? if i am going to drive somewhere to photograph the model, set up and everything, then should i be the one getting paid. not them?

Not necessarilly, no. hmm

Your mistake is assuming that "the photographer is the one who should be getting paid." Why do you think this?

Being a photographer doesn't automatically mean you put more effort into a shoot than the model. Modeling is a job like any other.
A quality model deserves to be compensated for her time just as much as you deserve to be compensated for yours.

Oh man. I don't normally join forum things but I'm curious!

And I totally think TFP is valuable. Collaborations can be worth much more than money, especially if you love what you do.
Until you need to pay the bills.....

I'll give you my honest opinion about how much and if you should be paid.

*Some people I will even suggest pay others to help them, that doesn't necessarily mean that you're bad, just that you need to work with a higher level of photographers or models, and that you may need to pay them to accomplish it.

*Also, in my opinion, no one but celebrities and supermodels should ever limit themselves to only paid assignments. EVERYONE else should be at least open to hearing trade offers from their peers. Even the perfect portfolio needs updated!

Ya know, I am struggling with the paid/non-paid/tf idea...what to do or what not to do...hmmm...

I really would love some feedback?

I guess Im the only one here that thinks this thread is highly superficial and self-defeating. Why would any of you allow your worth, be it monetary or otherwise be sized up by someone you dont even know???

I would like a professional opinion.
I have been thinking lately if I should charge some sort of rate as a model, but would not know a realistic number based on my portfolio. Also if you have any suggestions as to how you should introduce your rate (I have been doing mostly TF work up until this point) I would appreciate that as well.

Thanks!

I'm interested in knowing what you think I'm worth.

Also, you said nobody should limit themselves to paid assignments only. You're right. Even though my profile says paid only, I do indeed participate in unpaid trade shoots with certain photographers. The reason I put paid only is because if I didn't I get flooded with TF offers and don't get paid as much. Basically, I do paid work for local photographers and businesses, and trade work for bigger names and more established businesses.
