I love sugar coating but they are empty calories : )
If you want a stronger port and are willing to cut all but the best, let's go!

Anyone can critique too!  and please let me know how I'm doing at this, thanks!

Ahhh... the enthusiasm of newbs.

Ya know, some folks are on here to attract models, not make photography a competitive sport. Yeah, I try to show my strongest stuff, but sometimes I'll post stuff that may not be the the quality I'd like it to be, but it works to attract models. Am I gonna get rid of it? Nope.

So play the competitive game if you want. Me, I'm here only for the models.

WOW! this is an amazing portfolio, and the best one I've seen on MM. Great modeling and photography! it looks like you already know how to edit your work. This is exactly type shots I want and I love your look.

You have a killer style, girl holding starfish is creepy, any photo that makes you feel something is outstanding.

Do what Nyk did and cut out anything you don't think is your VERY best work, leave only 8 - 12 images.
let me know and I'll look again.

Well thank you so much! smile

Okay then. There're two of the horse pictures because of another critique, one will leave. Other than that, go for it.

Jumping in, like the OP says to do:

You have some good images, but they're hidden behind the average ones.

Good:

Not so good:

be careful the sun doesn't make your pictures look weird -

Why is she in the water? She needs some reasoning for being in the situation she's in for this image to work.

I'll bet you think my portfolio is a mess.  Because it is.

But I'm not sure I'd care to work with a model who wouldn't take the time to use a finger to scroll down to find 20 things they like.

let me know what you think.

sorry I can't critique this type of work.  try asking artists you admire with that style. or explore some new styles and see what gets the reaction you are looking for.

Yes, you should edit. see if you can cut half and make folders.

be careful of your fisheye use, the girl in the red bikini's feet look huge, not attractive.  it does work for the guy reaching for the ball.   try planing your shot so their head is in the very center and then crop half the photo so the distortion is only on one side. the distortion makes her head look strange but the shoe works.

I'd like to see you cut this down to no more than 18 - 24 images,  pick the single best on from each shoot.  remember people don't have time to look through 80+ images

Come on people JUMP IN  if you already got one, do someone else.

I want this to be open for everyone to jump in and do each others top list. so if you join then try to do at least one other, but not the one that did you, to keep it fair.

Based only on this port, I don't believe you've been shooting pro for 20 years.  cut the rest, and upload some new images.

I didn't! I think I just have larger images on my profile. You are using the forum link under the images, right?

I'm planning on removing most of the rest asap - though I hadn't considered the one in the red blouse as being quite the same quality as the others you mentioned. Will consider keeping it in, now.

I don't think I do have expressions that are much different from that shoot - the photographer was after something in particular. Not sure I achieved it- but hey, I tried, and he wants to work with me again, so maybe?

Thanks for the feedback smile

Edit: found another image from that shoot, similar expression though: http://www.purestorm.com/view-image.asp … u=SaxonWit

when posting here. try to make all your images 800 pixel wide.

like this, best light, but try not to crop hands in half, darken the background a lot and take out highlights like on top of her head and under his arm.
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130608/13/51b39529ebaa0_m.jpg

good concept but location donesn't work with the outfits.

again hands chopped. cropped to tight
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130228/09/512f94e18c92c_m.jpg

start hanging a dark sheet in the background, block inside windows. this would be better with only the 3 front people.

Don't have have a blurry photo on the profile, and just say you don't do nudes and leave it at that.
cut everything but this one, it will force you to seek better work.  look for a good photog in your area and pay him/her for a shoot focused on getting images of the type of work you want to get.

sometime you have to put all the photos together and see how it works as a whole. let me know when it's updated.
keep the blue one, maybe try taking a bunch of self portraits with different expressions then show your friends and see if they can guess what you were going for. something like this:

Thank you so much for writing back!  Hmm I've never looked at the hand thing but now that you point it out yikes! I've got to work on that! Being a model I know to think about those things but as a photographer it's seemed to escape my memory lol.  Wonderful idea about hanging a sheet in the background, again I guess it all the little details I'll have to start looking at. I always assume I'll fix it in post but most times forget.  Anyways thank you very much and two of those pics you said are gone, good riddance wink.

As for the second shot, can I ask why you don't like it? I feel there's something kind of off too.  I feel the male model (whom I work with all the time) looks a little young, maybe thats it? But I love the girls expression.   What throws you off about it?

Thanks again!

That's a great port. You have 12 shots and have been working since 07 so you know how to edit.  the black glasses shots are in different locations so keep both, but the studio full length you should pick one. I would cut this and see what else you have that you might want to add. A port like this makes it easy for me, and potential employers. : )
