I just wanted to know what people thought.. I have noticed that there are more male photographers than female which could mean that males decide in our society what is beautiful in a woman. Do you agree? The male seems to have control over what we see in the media, while women try to immulate his idea.

Thoughts anyone??

I understand what you're saying totally. Women are almost like accessories when it comes to "fashion" and "beauty" one year you're in, the next year you're out, lol. In my opinion, this typically works with the mass of people that HAVE to be told what to like.

Me.

What I think is beautiful is going to be different from what everyone else thinks is beautiful. And that's the beauty of it all.

I agree that the photography world seems to be overrun by our male counterparts, but I also think that men have a more favorable view of women than fellow females do.  I've gotten many more compliments and work requests from male photographers, citing that they like my look because it's "different" or "cute".  I've found that we women judge each other very harshly, not only in modeling, but in all facets of life.  Just an personal observation, and I'm interested to hear others' experiences.

Women are stronger now, in every aspect of the media, than ever before...give it time, it's a trend that has legs....

Bruce you seemed to have understood a bit what I was throwing out there... I basically wanted to know if women had more power in deciding who is beautiful than they may like to think.
In my opinion, men decide who's beautiful and what's funny is that women actually compete with and try to impress other women a lot of times more than impressing the men.

See, now this is much more interesting.  Now, I fully agree with you.  Women can be quite catty with each other.

Ain't THAT the truth!  My wife gets all catty about stuff I never even notice.

"Look at how short that skirt is..."

"She is falling OUT of that top..."

"Ugh, when she bends over, you can see her THONG...."

I thank her for it every time! big_smile

Silly us for thinking there might be a question in there somewhere.

I was just thinking about that today, yes when i see a photographer on here who is female it does seem rare.  But I always look at thier ports because I always like to see how a female photographer photographs women and how they may differ.  I guess its who can shoot a woman better a male or female photographer.  I think the work is simmular but it can be different.

Thats why this site is so great, there is a huge diversity of models and photographers.   I think all styles of photography are great.  I am in no way a fan of the cookie cutter photography style.  To me the so called, "playboy" style or Maxim style is fine, but thank god not all photographers shoot that way and thank god not all models look like that.  I love candy store photography.

All of the photos and women I have seen on here are all beautiful, now do they all fit the "model" type, no.  But thats what makes it great.  As far as male models, of course most are handsome but male models are not as diverse as females.

That's true in venues like MM, but out in the real world there's a pretty even split.  Everyone I've ever talked to who has gotten a degree in photography says that there are more women than men in the classes.

Separate from that, clients hire photographers, and clients promote what the public buys, so the real driving force is the way the masses spend their dollars.

So it's you and me, baby.  It's all of us.

The word is MEDIA, you said it yourself and media is all people of all ages, sex, religions, etc. Males do not choose what's pretty and what's not, we all do, magazines tell you what to wear this season but if you don't buy into them then they end up in the trash. As some people say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...

Now the idea that there are more male photographers is because capturing light with a camera can be very technical and males happen to be more into tech a bit more than woman.
