Why or why not? I just don't want to deal with parents period!
*edit*Actually nevermind cause I do want to try out doing senior portraits but I'm just afraid the parents might nag about the little things they don't like...ok so if the parents want their money back? do we get our photos back? cause if they want their money back i want to delete all the photos i've taken. Or is there like a contract out there where they can't get refunds? I'm still somewhat new to the whole contract/release forms...maybe it's different from each other?

If I'm being paid, I'll work with anyone.  If it's a personal project, over 18 only as a minor cannot sign the release.

I grew up in a small town of 500 people and went to school in a larger town of 7500 which was 10 miles away. At that larger school there were at least 3-4 photographers all of which were doing senior pictures.

If you limit yourself to not working with minors you're also going to limit yourself to what you can do and make money on.

YES I DO : because since I am commercial fantasy photograher most of my clients are 5 to 15 . All those parents want faerys made out of there little girls .

but as a rule I do not work on a tf basis on many underage models .
I think I have worked with like one on a tf basis .

It is a lot of aggrivation if you are not getting paid .

It is your business , you have to make your own contract .

To avoid getting into the fact that some parents will not like your photos .

I would charge a fee for even taking the pictures to begin with . This way you get payed for something at least for sure .

Then charge a fee for whatever picture or pictures  they want after the fact .

That is how I have done it in the past .

yeah you're very right about that...I do want to get into senior portraits cause that's where the money is besides weddings...you rarely get models to pay for your work as often as seniors portraits does

right now I don't do TF* with girls under 18... but mostly just because around here I have yet to see a girl under 18 who has the correct height and weight for fashion. If it was for a paid assignment, I would most likely do it as long as the parent was there.

I will shoot senior portraits all day.  TFP/CD and a minor, probably not and never anything remotely approaching inappropriate.  As far as money back...  Take a ride in a cab, you may not like the ride, but you have to pay for the service.

Do I have a lawyer yes . And She helped me write my contract before just so everything is in its right and proper place as far as law .  It would probably be a good idea to write one up and get a second opinion just so you can cover your arse . But that is my opinion . others will tell you that you do not need a lawyer to look over your papers but I disagree with that assumption .

I won't work with anyone under 18.  Period.  I don't care if what kind of work it is, I don't care if their parents are there, it doesn't make any difference.  People in the U.S. who should be worrying about more serious things, like the economy, are instead conducting a witch hunt under the banner of "child safety."  I'm not going anywhere near it.

I don't limit my business in this regard. I just try to let common sense guide me. There are many minors who want studio headshots for any number of reasons and I am happy to oblige.

W minors always have parent present. W any client always have a contract that states what you give for what they pay. All my clients pay in advance for the shoot and collection of finished work b4 we shoot. J

I charge 99.95 for one half hour session and then 44.95 for pictures on a cd . This includes four poses and 50 pictures to choose from .

However I also charge a second package of 199.95 which includes a print and 7 poses . Then 25.00 for a cd of images as a saver package .

I do this as well , this way you are paid up . But again if they decided they are unhappy with said pictures I charge them another fee for another shoot .

The real thing is you have to decide what you believe your work is worth and set that price and do not back down on it . Do not sell yourself short .

Yes they are the moms . I even get them on faery shoots . They make the little girls feel uncomfortable . when that is the last thing I want because I want them to be natural and there pictures always turn out better when they are "playing" or at least they feel like they are . That is the things with kids all you have to do is play to them . With seniors it is a bit different , you want them to feel comfortable and beautiful .

yeah actually i did one senior portrait once and it went well and the mom was cool too but i just scared if i don't get that type of mom again lol...but yeah all the models i've worked with are very comfortable...I'm honest and tell them when they look good or when they're not looking their best. Trust is everything! And what I want from parents is trust because if they stand around and tell how their children how to pose..that would just annoy the crap out of me!

No problem shooting minors, just two rules.

1 - Mum must come

2 - Never get within 1m of the model when shooting [let Mum move that stray hair]

My first model was my 11 year old step daughter.  Best model I've had to date.

As far as working with the general public, I would much rather shoot adults.

Minors have parents. I shoot TFCD with teens quite often. They take direction well, are eager to learn and usually bring far less drama to a shoot than most adult models. The parents all love me and they have given countless references to other parents. I only shoot with minors when one of their parents attends the shoot and are present at all times. Some of my best work is with teen models. I recently photographed a delightful nine year old with no prior modeling experience. I discovered her while photographing her and her dad for a fitness magazine...she is a green belt in Karate. And before anyone wonders why I would be working with teens when my portfolio is filled with nudes...I do far more fashion work than nudes. Follow the links in my profile to my fashion work.

If only all photographers were like you! lol. I hate how it only takes one person to label minors the wrong way. Yeah sure there are some minors that are up to no good but they are many more that are aspiring models (like I am) and want to get into the modeling industry but gets turn down continously by photographers because of their age. I say that as long as photographers ask their parents to sign a release, have parents be at the shoot, and not get too close to the model, then they should be just fine. Photographers shouldn't be so close-minded about underage models because there are many models like me that have both parents willing to attend shoots, sign numerous model releases and they never complain (sometimes I even forget my parents are at the shoot.)

Only shot with 1 minor and she was sent from an agency.  To be honest, one of my better shoots, model was naturally great at posing.  Agency tried to send me more minors; I declined.
