To celebrate Model Mayhem's 7th anniversary this month, we would like to update the main banner at the top of the site.  It's been a wonderful banner, but it's ready to buy some white shoes and move to Florida.

We want you to design the new banner.  Post your banners here to enter into the contest.  Here's what we're looking for.

1) The main banner will be 800 X 100 pixels.  Post banners of that size here.  However, we may wish for different sizes in the future, so please be prepared to show the image(s) used in creating the banner.  And be aware that the winner will need to provide a full-resolution source image in PSD or TIF format with layers intact, so don't flatten everything before saving, and hang on to those files!

2) Post your entries in this thread.  If you need help posting an image, please click here.

3) We want a design similar in composition to the existing one, with the MM logo on the left and visual interest oriented on the right. Entries must bear the circled R (®) trademark symbol with the MM logo. The MM logo must be the only text in the design.  The logo is in a font called "Augie" and it can be found here.

4) Make sure you have all the permissions you need as detailed in the Official Rules.  Don't use any image you don't have permission to use, including other people's photos, and make sure you have model releases for anyone depicted in the banner.

5) The deadline to enter is 5:00 PM Pacific Time on March 21, 2012.

6) The winner will receive, in additional to the insane bragging rights, 5 years of VIP Membership ($500 value).

ModelMayhem.com – Anniversary Banner Contest - Official Rules

1. Who May Enter: ModelMayhem.com’s (“MM”) Anniversary Banner Contest (the “Contest”) is open only to registered MM members over the age of 18. Employees of Model Mayhem, Inc. (“Sponsor”) Internet Brands, Inc., and their immediate family members are ineligible to participate in the Contest. All applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Entry in the Contest constitutes your acceptance of these Official Rules.

2. Contest Period: Contest entry period begins when the Contest is posted on MM and ends at 5:00 p.m. (Pacific) on the Contest’s specified end date (“Contest Period”). The winner will be selected from entries properly submitted and received during the Contest Period.

3. How to Enter: You may enter the Contest by visiting MM and submitting a banner in the Contest forum thread. The submission must include an 800 x 100 pixel banner design. The submission should be in .JPEG format with minimal compression.  Limit one entry per authorized account holder (i.e., MM member).

4. Prize:  The Contest winner will receive 5 years of free VIP Membership (ARV $500). If the winning design has multiple participants in its creation, apportionment of the prize will be at the sole discretion of the winner.

5. Selection of Contest Winner: MM staff (“Judges”) will select a winning banner entry, on the basis of creativity, originality, aesthetic appeal, continuity with current site banner, and clarity (“Judging Criteria”). Sponsor is seeking a design with the MM logo on the left and visual interest oriented on the right. Entries must bear the circled R (®) trademark symbol with the MM logo. Sponsor grants participant a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to use the trademarks, trade names, designs and logos of Sponsor solely in connection with the Contest. When the Contest Period ends, such license ceases. The MM logo must be the only text in the design. The winner will be selected by the Judges from all eligible entries received. The winner will be notified by email. Decisions of the Judges and Sponsor on all matters relating to the Contest are final. The Judges reserve the right to not pick a winner. Odds of the Contest will depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The Contest winner hereby assigns, transfers, and delivers to Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, and assigns, all its right, title, and interest in the winning design.

6. Contest Winner Additional Rules: The winner must provide a copy of the original Photoshop file with all unflattened layers intact in either .TIF or .PSD. The winner must also provide a full resolution source image of at least 8 megapixels. If the design includes other people, you must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release from all persons who appear in the design, authorizing use of the design. If you are unable to provide all required personal releases upon request by Sponsor and in the form provided by Sponsor, then your entry may be disqualified. If any person appearing in any design is a minor in their state of residence, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required. If you win, we will contact you only if personal releases are needed. You do not need to send releases with your entry.

7. Limited License Grant:  Even if you are not the Contest winner, by submitting any design or information to Sponsor, you grant to Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees and assigns, solely with respect to the Contest design, an irrevocable, worldwide and royalty-free right to use, reproduce, edit, display, transmit, modify, publish and otherwise make use of the submitted design or other information on MM. In addition to other things, the rights granted to Sponsor include but are not limited to the right to resize, crop, compress, edit, feature, caption, affix logos to, and to otherwise alter or make use of the submitted design.

8. Banner Contest Additional Rules: The entries will be judged in accordance with the Judging Criteria. Each submitted design must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant(s). By entering the Contest, entrant(s) represents, acknowledges, covenants and warrants that the submitted design is an original work created solely by the entrant(s), that the design does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the design. Designs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud in the sole opinion of Sponsor; provided that entrants must be prepared to provide a release. The design must not, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Judges and Sponsor, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. Designs deemed inappropriate will be disqualified. All entries are subject to the conditions for Content set out in the Terms of Use.

9. Publicity: As a condition of entry into the Contest, except where prohibited by law, each entrant and each winner, by accepting a prize grants to Sponsor all right, title and interest to publicize, broadcast, display and/or otherwise use the member’s name in any media for advertising and publicity purposes, without additional review, compensation, permission or approval of the winner.

10. General Rules: By entering or participating in the Contest, entrant(s) agree to be bound by these Official Rules, and by the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding in all respects. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest at any time. The personal information collected through the Contest is subject to MM’s Privacy Policy. By accepting the prize, winner agrees to release and hold Sponsor and their agents and affiliates and parent, harmless from and against any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, actions and liabilities of any kind in connection with the Contest or receipt of the prize. Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused, or allegedly caused, by participating in the Contest or use of the prize. Any disputes that may arise hereunder shall be governed in all respects by the laws of California.

11. Winner List: For a list of the Contest winner, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Model Mayhem, Inc., Attn: ModelMayhem.com Anniversary Banner Contest Winner List, 909 North Sepulveda Boulevard, 11th Floor, El Segundo, CA 90245. Requests for a winner list must be received within 5 days after the end of the Contest Period.

12. Sponsor:  Model Mayhem, Inc., 909 North Sepulveda Boulevard, 11th Floor, El Segundo, CA 90245

I would suggest redesigning the logo. And making it an actual logo, instead of just a typeface. The one you have now really doesn't look professional, or appropriate to the target audience.

In your terms.

How long are we granting you the right to use, publish etc etc etc. There should be a time frame in there. 1,2,3,4,5 years???

I agree with above comments you should also get a logo design to include rather than the font.

If you can't change the font, what is the point? All you're basically doing is switching out the background.

My guess is that's why they called it a "banner" contest and not a "logo" contest. But, I do prefer something a bit more conservative in a logo. Though, if it's a registered trademark there is probably some limitations.

different fonthttps://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/067/7/7/mm3_by_illusorac-d4s68md.png

Also made a bigger version just in case you might end up changing the size in the future.

And since everyone is clamoring for a new logo, here's the one made from scratch. (no stock/clipart and no font)

I agree 100% this. Neither words says 'model' or 'mayhem'. Change the font and make it an actual logo.

I agree on the Augie Font replacement as well.
It's just not sleek enough.
