My fan page gets me some work! Not too much, I mainly use it to keep up with people who are all ready my clients/ people in the industry around my area.

Just update it with what I am working on, upload behind the scenes that sort of thing.

I don't really get work from there but I have it to keep in contact with others in the industry and/or clients who are interested in what I'm doing and what I've done.

I finally gave in and made one not too long ago.
It's nice to have because I can have a personal profile ( close friends ) and then a page for everyone else.

I'm not the friend collector type on Facebook, since I don't use my personal profile for networking, but like I said, just to keep in touch with friends.

At some point I had a few photographers I had worked with, but then other photographers would find me through them ( photographers I had never met or heard of sometimes! ) and would start adding me. I was getting bombarded with friend requests. So I let them know and now do not have anyone from the industry. They were fine with it and understanding smile

The page is great to keep in touch with all the fans, photographers, etc.
I generally still use MM more, but Facebook is pretty nice too. It allows people who aren't in the industry to interact with us, and I find that pretty neat smile

I've been told by a few people I should get one.  I just can't bring myself to do it. I have a real hard time with the concept of people putting up pages where othere become "fans".

Maybe I'm old school on this - but to put up such a page you are essentially declaring yourself a celebrity of some kind (celebs get fans). Yeah, I know, I'm making myself sound silly.  But I have to admit the whole term turns me right off.

I'm super happy to see people having success with it though!

My Facebook fan page is my #1 source for photo shoot bookings, print sales, appearance bookings, media requests, etc. As to how I use it, I make sure to keep it up to date on a very regular basis with new content and I try to always personally respond to every person who leaves a comment. I highly encourage photographers and models to build a fan page and to utilize it in the way that makes the most sense for their genre(s) of work. Just remember -- over 50% of the people in the world have a Facebook page. That's way more than enough potential clients to justify the time that you'll spend on the page, even with the initial need to promote the page a lot to get it in front of the right people.

They're actually not even called 'fan' pages anymore, just facebook page and they can be created in a numer of different categories. I find it works very well to keep my business and personal separate.
