See, I just didn't really care, as long as she made music.

Maybe that's the difference.

I don't really care too much other than the fact that she is obviously talented, and now her talent is gone. I didn't know her personally, so I can't really connect on that level.

But if given the two choices, I'm definitely not mad at her... I more feel a bit of sympathy, because to me she was in need of a lot of help and she didn't get it.

I have to agree with you on this. I think "asshole" is probably an inappropriate name for her. "Drug addicted, self-imploding, uncaring, selfish, waste-of-talent, coke fiend, criminal" is probably better.

I credit anyone who has kicked any addiction, but what kind of BS is "given the gift of sobriety". These people were given a gift. They were given a talent and they squandered it, along with their lives.
They were talented and each made a contribution to society, in addition to making tons of money. The so-called gift of sobriety was one that only they could bestow on themselves, and they chose not to.
Let's not forget other talented people with more money than common sense who are now worm food, John Belushi, Heath Ledger, River Phoenix.
How sorry am I supposed to feel for someone with a talent who chooses the easy way out, to make life easier with drugs or alcohol, and does so to excess killing themselves.
Sorry, I got noting for them.

Have you ever struggled with an addiction?
Are you Amy Winehouse's close friend or doctor?

I think people are upset with her for not making more of her gifts, and feel betrayed as fans.

She spent all of her time in the public eye in a crazy obsessive relationship.

I don't know Christina, so I can't tell you if she does or not. But I do know the couple of songs I have of similar genre have sounded amazing.

That being said, I absolutely agree... Amy had it, and knocked it out of the park when healthy.

Obviously you know nothing about alcoholism or addiction. Rather than fueling misinformation, I suggest doing some reading on it. Chances are someone you are related to, or are close to may have struggles in this area. If drug addicts and alcohilics could just quit on willpower alone, it would have happened long ago.
It's sad, but the truth.

It's not something that magically goes away, as you should know.
Some people can't conquer their addictions, or demons, or what-have-you.
It's a day by day struggle for the rest of your life; some days are easier than others.
If one doesn't have the proper support, or exposes themselves to the wrong environment, then all hell can break loose.
Just my opinion, since I'm not a close friend of hers or a doctor that treated her, either.

I think those people should get over themselves and stop thinking they are entitled to anything of hers, including her 'gifts'.

Does anybody realize she was 27? like Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendricks and Kurt Cobain?

They talked about the year 27 curse back in 1971... when the pillars of music died at that age one after another.

PS: Oops my bad someone mentionned it above... the 27 club!

It's a lot like some people get cancer and can't beat it... some people come into life with mental instabilities... and just like cancer, it *might* be caused by external forces, or it *might* just be how you are built and that's what you have to battle.

Slate.com had a slideshow on celebrities with bad teeth.  It mentioned her and suggested her bad teeth were from drug use.

http://www.slate.com/slideshow/arts/cel … e/#slide_3

Ironically, for her and a couple of others, I didn't even recognize their names, so I wasn't thinking she was much of a celebrity.  She has a mic in her hand, so she was some sort of singer or something?

Yup.
Some people have melanoma, and poof! A few cancerous moles are removed and never return.
Some people have stage IV pancreatic cancer and are gonners.
Many fall somewhere in between.

Nice.

She was a talented artist and I am sad that there will be no more music from her.

Sad, only 27. I saw that Belgrade "performance", and I knew it was just a matter of time. Girl was so sad.

Is it weird that all day yesterday I had "Rehab" stuck in my head, since I woke up. No lie.

When that song came out, I knew she was going to die tragically and I knew it was going to piss me off because it was such a troubling message and it was so well sung.
