Most certainly understand your not wanting to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. There are obviously others who haven't schooled themselves with those resources. There is also a lot of uninformed/ignorant material posted. Wouldest thou be kind enough to select and list a link or a few links that you approve of so interested parties can gnaw on them (and no have to wade thru what ignoramuses and rif raf have written)? :-)

I approached this shoot with a very happy-go-lucky attitude. I could have hustled, I could have werked, but I sized up the situation and chose to play it cool. I suggested it before, and I will suggest it again: a proper meet and greet, in my opinion, prior to the actually cruise, should be in order. Somewhere, somehow, where everyone is required to attend, people are not distracted or previously intoxicated, or generally overly excited. In a location where everyone can access internet, show their books, strut their stuff, and wear name tags.

If I were to take a candid moment, and allow some blatant self promotion, I would say that could have, and perhaps should have, advertised myself a little stronger, sold myself a little harder, emphasized the strength of my career, etc. Amelia Simone is another name that comes to mind as I ramble shamelessly. I made an ass of myself, tripping over my own words with pure admiration for this young woman. She is an inspiration to me, and a model of very high caliber in my book. Yet, when I spoke with other photographers about her on a few occasions, they did not know her from the other girls, took no special interest, etc. I was aghast.

There I go again, trying to compliment one person's point, and rambling off on my own. I shallt not visit the MM Forums at this time of night henceforth! (yeah, bs..)

Oh! By the way. I'm the road again starting this Thursday, and I will be gone for two weeks (including a brief stay in the LA area...) But I would adore a few pictures in my inbox upon my return

Nice ramble! Amelia sat at my table and while she was not self effacing she certainly wasn't self promoting. It took me a while to figure out how incredible she is. This is not unique to her.

There were a couple other high-calibre models who said they've not been invited off the back bench. I said "Really? What's wrong with us?!"

The phrase that comes to mind is "Pearls before swine!" :-)

so while i cannot speak from everyone here is what I would like to see - one quality photo, edited, .jpg for posting on MM, my fb, and my website, from each look. possibly two. when you think about it though, i cannot possibly post 10 pictures to my port from the same set anyway. it is about quality, not quantity, so i want the shot that is THE BEST! if i get that one shot, then i am happy. thus far all photogs have been very sweet and obliging in getting photos to me, IT IS APPRECIATED GUYS!!!

so those are MY expectations/wants. i feel they are reasonable, and i have no time limit too them. perhaps in a month or so i might send out little messages if there is a look i have yet to see, just a little *nudge* but i would consider that plenty. in the end though, it is up to you based on what you are willing to offer!! since i don't believe you paid models, i would perhaps dropbox photos (like you did with me) and ask them to pick their fav 5 for editing. anything more and we're really never going to hear the end of you on this thread!! ;D

Yes, I'm in a library but I did Laugh Out Loud when I remember that video. You are correct, that the models' can make unreasonable requests! On the other hand, some of MY requests are in a similar arena :-)

Yes, I know it's up to the photographer but like I said, I've been told I give too much. I am shifting from quantity to quality and consequently slower processing.
Clarkmeister and I don't agree with which ones are good ones but I trust his judgment.

I've worked with other pros and I recognize that our professional judgment is NOT unerring.

I did review Ira's links, one which was about how to rank the images with 1-5 stars. It's helpful but still there is so much goodness it's hard to identify exactly where the cutoff is.

Try uploading an image to MM, somewhere in the process you should see an option to indicate whether it is 2257 related or not. I'm doing this from memory because my iPhone won't allow me to post directly to MM for some [expletive deleted] reason! (and I'm not near a computer). I plan to revise this when able [just like I'll do post processing when able.]

[Historical footnote/question: how did "expletive deleted" enter our lexicon? Hint: Californian.]

Those who have served in the military, and there are at least a couple veterans, and one supporting family member that I know of. Despite the recruitment material and movies, it is far from all fun and games. THANK YOU for your service.

It is an incredible, mind-warping burden when one makes a mistake and shoots a person in error.
You can't recall a bullet.
Not as simple as deleting a digital disaster. You can't rewind and do take two.
The point is that yes, we had some bad shots on this cruise (whether friendly fire or fragging)--but nobody died.

In the whole scheme of things, how important are images compared to life and limb?
If model never get their pictures it's most certainly cause for concern but it's not the end of life, no limb's lost.

The freedom we have to pursue happiness and to create images is not without costs.
It's not surprising that war creates mental instability. Many of us are hardpressed to claim mental stability :-)--even without the trauma of real life and death shoot-no-shoot decisions in the fog of war with little training.

We tend to get bent out of shape over relatively trivial matters.

Please don't sweat the little stuff.

BTW, it is true that I spoke with a psychiatrist for hours. BUT it's intentionally misleading to grab attention and illustrate that many things aren't as they appear.  The psychiatrist just happens to be a college friend of mine who was reviewing a medical grant application.

[Hope this makes some modicum of sense!]

SUMMARY:
* Military personnel and supporting families--thank you.
* Misfires in military or Mexico action can be unfortunate.
* Military mistakes tend to be more significant and mess with the mind. We tend to be micro. Hopefully this macro view puts perspective.
