Apparently, nudity in Oregon is quite alright? I can prance around with my naked self and NOT get arrested? yikes

I have never lived anywhere other than Southern California, and don't know anyone in Oregon. Someone, clarify this for me, please! I'll give you a cat!

Now, to answer your question seriously, local laws can supersede state laws and some other places (such as parks or federal lands) may be subject to other regulations.

I think the main thing is that unlike many places, nudity is not presumed to be indecent exposure, but many other aspects (like in other states) can make it illegal.  (Since I'm not a lawyer, I won't go into specifics.)

Therefore, there can still be concern about things like disturbing the peace, or arguing/asserting the right to nudity as free speech or something like that.

Yes, things seem to be a bit more liberal, but you also need to be smart.  It also varies from place to place, I think Eugene is a lot more liberal, but there are some very conservative areas in the state that would likely flip their shit and throw you in jail.

As an example, even Oregon is not immune to the "OMG, someone is breastfeeding" paranoia, and taking daily nude walks past the high school or elementary school would likely provoke negative attention.

Been true for about two decades. As I recall, a porn star named Chantilly Lace brought a lawsuit against the city demanding the right to go topless, since it was an equal-rights thing since men could go topless. Judge agreed, and Ms. Lace celebrated with a topless stroll through the city. Great publicity for her.

A couple of years later a pair of college girls made headlines for going topless on the subway to protest that they couldn't go topless in the city, only to find out that they, in fact, could.

The legal decisions did not, alas, usher in an era of widespread public nudity in the city; practically speaking, only in occasional parts of Central Park can one spot the rosy-breasted New Yorker.

From what I can gather - it's legal - but, can be problematic in terms of creating a "public nuisance" from the look of it.  It may depend on if one received complaint constitutes a "Nuisance" in the eyes of any particular law enforcement that wants to find an excuse to find "offense".

Interesting, sounds quite similar to what I was saying.

Going beyond nuisance, there are other aspects also, such as if it is considered for the purpose of arousing oneself or others, then it will likely be at risk of being considered indecent exposure, so you could find yourself needing to somehow be able to show your intent is just nudity or artistic.

How I would bottom line it, while nudity may be legal, there may be other aspects that can make it illegal under other parts of the law, so caution and a polite attitude is quite wise. smile

That was so much fun. Cops across the street were staring for a good 5 minutes and an old lady asked if I were okay. lol

Actually the entirety of New York state has been top free since 1992.

That however doesn't mean you won't be stopped and detained while cops that don't know the law (or care about the law) take time to figure it out. It's kinda of like being told you can't photograph cops in public. It's completely legal but they don't like it so they're apt to tell you it's against the law and then try and figure out a way to make it stick.

People come and go, it isn't unusual around here.

All sorts of possible reasons.

Nods, yup, it sure is.

If they don't like what you're doing, they will find justification to try to stop you.

Hell, if their, or the chief's wife does not like what you're doing, they will find justification to try to stop you!!

Funny how some law enforcement officers tend to conveniently forget, not know the law or make up their own interpretations.

Too bad she left. I was going to bring the popcorn and cold drinks when she did it. It would have been more fun than a tailgate party.

Down these ways there's no such thing as an indecent exposure charge. You can be arrested for disorderly behavior if your nudity offends someone but otherwise it's perfectly legal.
