...........when life was simpler and hard.  Everyone was just trying to get the next meal and keeping the fire going to keep warm.  There were NO extremists of any kinds.  There is no vegans, no religion, no peanut allergy, no green peace, no animal rights, no welfare, no soccer mom, no porn, no escorts.  More importantly, we did not have a mean of killing a lot of people.  Everyone was focusing to survive but not trying to kill others for no reason.  All animals will kill each others for food.  Only human is the only animal that will kill another human other than food.

My parents came here for freedom and the American dreams.  It was easy, we got it in no time plus more.  But I am so unhappy about our world as we are heading.  And I can't and am incapable to do anything about it.  I am just a mad scientist playing with drugs, animals and humans.  I can't solve the polarization of the nation and the world.  We choose our leader not by what the candidate can do for our country, we choose our leader by how much he or she can benefit our pockets NOW.  We have lost our vision.  We are suffering in our our success and democracy.

When I sailed and landed on some remote islands in Caribbean and Central Americans,  at first I felt sorry for the natives how much they have missed our advance and progress .  Our massive productivity of the modern world.  But very soon, I realized they were laughing at me for chasing the impossible dreams.

Perhaps, life comes to a full circle.  Now it is time to return to the basic.  We should all return to the sea where all lives came from.  I hope the day will come where I will sail into the sunset where I can live off the seas.

I felt better NOW.  smile

I think people post stuff like that and possibly just assume everyone feels the same way.
I dont. I love the here and now. I have a steady job...doesnt pay amazingly but I'm thankful to be working, I love my country and feel lucky to have been born here.

and try and see as much of it as I can....I think our leaders for america are ok pretty most all of them. sometimes I feel people talk in such sky is falling extremes that one wonders if they are even living in the same country as me. I am a republican...but I think Obama is ok. no out of the ordinary complaints. I get along with everyone at work, have great friends and love recording music for myself and am thankful for each day the lord gives me.

life is good.

Noble thoughts, but I don't believe that these views are realistic:

...  As long as there have been human beings, there has been war.  Early man fought over hunting grounds, and the tribe that was successful in wiping out the competition got to survive.

...  Indeed, early tribes were the source of our inclination to be prejudiced.  Our tribe is better than your tribe, therefore, your tribe deserves to die.

...  Early man created religions to justify prejudice, to motivate warriors, and to answer the questions that cannot be answered.  I note that many of the early religions featured gods who were powerful warriors.  Even those religions that featured peaceful gods were perverted to justify war.

...  The earliest pieces of art were pornographic.

...  The tribe that took care of its members had the best chances of survival.  Isn't that welfare?

I don't think the Stone Age was as pleasant as you describe.

Kennewick Man + hip + spear  - - -  google is your friend for the joys of human interactions in the stone age.

Plus the whole under 30 lifespan - and common ailments being deadly without any effective medicine

Oh, and things with sabre teeth trying to eat you.

I understand.  We are all different and more importantly different age and experience in life play a significant part of the feeling.

I was the most energetic young man and adult in most of my life in the new found freedom and opportunity.   Even English is not my first language, I excelled in Undergrad and Graduate school with GPA of 3.97.  I have a wonderful career and plenty of toys to play with.  Children all grew up and they both have a bright future ahead of them and not a penny of debts. Yes, life is good, or is it really.

I think I am burning out.  My happiness is not longer dependent on the material and money.  May be I just missed my children since I don't see them often because they are too busy charting their course in life and securing a place in the society.  Yes, that was what I taught them.   May be I should tell them:  Don't listen to your Daddy, have fun and goofy off with your old man.   smile

Or...OP  you can do this.

Sell everything you own...or give away to charity. Take only a backpack of clothing, and some food..and head off to ..humm  a remote part of Planet Earth.  And never have to deal with today's society. For You...Problem Solved...Goodbye...Oh You owe me a 100 dollars.. Thanks

Wrong. Animals DO kill other animals in order to be the alpha male. They kill their young if they suspect they might not be theirs. They kill the females if they are not their females. You must know very little about the animal kingdom. Dominance is not just for humans.

I feel the same way. This isn't the way people are supposed to live, and we're all so dependent on technology and the simple comforts of modern living that everyone is too blind to see it; in the first world, at any rate.

What's there to do about it?

Edit: short lifespans in ancient times are a myth. There was a high infant mortality rate, which skewed the statistics. If you lived past infancy, your life expectancy was much higher than is commonly believed.

I think you are onto something,
Happiness should not be defined by possession only.
There are a lot of people that define happiness as a meal for the day or clean water less than one hour away.
We are spoiled to have our basic need covered and we should know it and enjoy it.

I don't belong in this time period at all.
I feel completely displaced.

I would love to be in a past era/century in a heartbeat.

"... WE should go back to the Stone Age"? Maybe YOU should go back to the Stone Age. (no offense implied, but it is a bit assumptive to use the first person plural, instead of the first person singular) There is pleanty of empty land in Siberia and Argentina for you to practice your theory. Before you go, maybe go to Haiti, and get their view. Not to imply Haitians are Stone Age, I hope to visit sometime, but most Haitians do not enjoy the civilized trappings of Maryland. Another option is to simplify your life bit by bit - go on the Appalachian Trail as a caveman, feeling brave? do it in winter. Live without television. Don't buy processed foods. I don't know you, these are just suggestions.

*edit, physiologically - there is not much different between you and the Stone Agers, all the passions and loves and evils you feel, they would feel also - if they had the technology.

How about I just buy you a dinner in a 4 star restaurant when I drift to LA by the Santa Ana wind.....hahaha.

That is what I have been thinking for a few years, but I will do it with a sailboat.  I don't need to sell anything since I am NOT having a multimillion yacht that needs half dozen crews to operate.   I just need a small 40-45 ft late model monohull.  My daughter finishing her med school in a bit more than a year  (her 3rd year).  I will pay off her tuition and stuff, then I will be Free at Last.   I'm still take care my Mom who is is getting old, but she takes very little money to make her happy compared to the expense of my daughter, but I love my daughter big_smile

Which era? I think it would be cool to dance to Glenn Miller's, 'In the Mood', as the new hip song.

I think it would be cool to live before WWII, but after the ickyness of the US Civil (sic) War or the Napoleonic Wars.

Can you imagine? There was a time people traveled without visas.

I saw you in a different universe. You were riding a dark war horse, dancing on his back as the angel of Death and singing the verse of Mercy.

I identify with the emotions expressed by the OP. Not that I'm any kind of genius or anything, but I realized that the only control I had was over my own life, so about ten years ago, I went minimalist, own very little (not even a microwave) and have never been happier.

I don't say any of this like I'm superior or anything, just what worked for me.

No surprise that the novel I just wrote takes place in a fictional town that is misplaced in time. Yes, that is a shameless plug for you to look at my site and buy my book. smile

There is no vegans, no religion, no peanut allergy, no green peace, no animal rights, no welfare, no soccer mom, no porn, no escorts.

I always wondered why porn is a standard 'like'.

I agree with you but we (humans) have never been known for nuturing wisdom.

Look at what happened to Socrates, Christ, and even Einstein had to flee Europe because it was no longer hospitable to the imagination.

We continue to be an attention deficit species going no where fast.

You are not alone.

Osama Bin Laden and all the neo terrorists wanted this too.

They thought they could do it by destroying the Financial Center in NYC.

Destroying all the historical relics of great civilizations in the Middle East.

Occupying healthy cities and towns in the Middle East and bringing them back to the dark ages.

Yeah... the good ol' times that never were...

It is all the same... just on a different level...

In those ancient, golden times, murder, rape, pillaging, all the good stuff was thriving and part of daily life... you are influenced by the vision of the life of the Eloi, described by H.G. Wells in his "Time Machine", but the reality is that the ancient times were filled with Morlocks... everywhere...  I am guessing you are not substantially older than me... so, you might remember the 1960's version...     evilgrin

P.S.: I have been through so much stuff (only a few know about it), that, sometimes... I am tired... so tired of the struggle... so, somewhere in my mind and heart, your rant does resonate... as well as the positive turnaround...
