AB Ring Flash 1st Live Shot -No Clothes on Model
First shot of live subject with AB Ring Flash. When he sees that I'm set up Tink will often lay in front of the camera as if waiting for me too shoot him. So far I like the AB Ring Flash but found that (when using a tripod) I cannot flip the camera to Portrait position. The weight of the camera (D200) and the RF will not allow the two units to remain in place on the tripod. Any thoughts? Thanks. Steve Dec 31 06 11:35 am Link Looks like like my cat, except different. Dec 31 06 11:52 am Link You can get some kind of bracket system. Dec 31 06 11:54 am Link Clique7 Studios wrote: to heavy too handhold, the camera, or turn the set sideways? Dec 31 06 11:58 am Link That pose is so overdone! I am guessing it is a TFF agreement - Time for Food! Dec 31 06 12:04 pm Link Clique7 Studios wrote: Ack! Kitty Porn on MM! Dec 31 06 12:45 pm Link This model was clearly under the influence...of catnip. Dec 31 06 01:23 pm Link Wow, what a great pussy Dec 31 06 01:26 pm Link Clique7 Studios wrote: Exactly. Dec 31 06 01:27 pm Link As for rotating, hmm maybe try a rotating flash bracket like the stroboframe RL's or something similar where the camera not the flash turns. Jan 01 07 03:00 am Link Does the tripod not lock down, or is it just a matter of sandbagging the tripod legs for the weight offset? Jan 01 07 03:09 am Link Try Kirk Photo and see if there is an L-bracket that will work or if you dare the Cobra is quite a beast. http://www.kirkphoto.com/ I own their L-brackets, Ball head and quick plates. I also equipped my 300 2.8 and 70-200 with their rotating collar quick release plates. Jan 01 07 03:20 am Link I think the shot works.. but I'd still like to see a version with some caution tape. Jan 01 07 06:23 pm Link Damn! Doesn't anyone shave anymore? Geeze! Jan 01 07 07:29 pm Link What model tripod do you have? You may need to get a sturdier one if the one you have isn't up to the task. You may be able to find a used heavier-duty tripod at a camera store if you don't want to pay full price (or check Ebay). Or, it may be your tripod head is wearing out. I had a ball head that refused to hold my camera steady in the vertical position. I got a new head which seems to work quite nicely. Anyway, just my 2.75 cents worth... Jan 01 07 07:32 pm Link hi.. ive just ordered one of these AB ringflashes. Are there ant other 'issues' I should know about? It worked well and was very light. I looped the pencil strobe head cable over my shoulder. Jan 02 07 11:53 am Link Try to put it on a light stand and use a hinged light mount bracket like this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control … ype=search It will allow you to go from landscape to portrait when you need. Granted you have to move the light stand a few inches to reposition yourself. I suggest a sandbag on the lightstand to give you more stability. I have used this system because it allows me more control when framing. Hand held was to all over the place for me. Hope this helps... -S Jan 02 07 11:59 am Link Christopher Hartman wrote: Looks like my dog, only different... Jan 02 07 12:10 pm Link The Calumet /Bowens unit is fairly light. I have mounted my H2 with the 50-110 on it and done hand held. Mostly though I put it on a tripod since I mostly do structured and not freeform shots. Quit being a girly man, it's good exercise handholding these things..... Jan 02 07 12:20 pm Link alan Pickering wrote: Search the forums, there have been several threads on this. Lots of discussion about the pros and cons of this unit. Jan 02 07 12:23 pm Link I just got the AB Ringlight as well.. I love it! It's not heavy.. you can use a umbrella or reflector and use it as a stroboe as well.. Here's my bitch od a model.. we did a TFK (Trade For Kibble) Jan 02 07 06:07 pm Link See, you put that thing close enough and it gets rid of most of the wrinkles. I feel bad for you guys in remote cities with no rental counters. I was one of you, so I felt the pain! My boy Nick Adamson did a damn fine job making a home made ring flash. See his work from my page. I think he's the 4th thumbnail on the top row of buddies. Jan 06 07 02:47 am Link |
