DO NOT: Let what I lovingly call, forum wolves get the better of you. They may gang up on you and say hurtful things but, trying to get back at them may just do more harm than good. If you go too far, it may even get you banned. Even if you feel they deserve it, just back off and leave them to their egos and their very smalll... well, you get the point. It may take a few weeks in the forum for them to finally leave you alone but, they'll eventually find someone else to gnaw on. God help them.

Please send your name, age, height, weight, contact info and recent photos (include a full body and close up shot) along with your story of why you deserve a makeover with our arsenal of Hollywood celebrity stylists, makeup artists and hair stylists!! Hello everyone!

I'm proud to say I'm a fawn here on MM.  Thank you so much for this, CLT.  It really helped me to better understand the society that is MM and all its inner-workings.

As you said, some fawns "go into hiding until they are bigger, stronger, and wiser," which is what I've been doing, except that I didn't know it was the smart thing to do.  I was mostly just afraid of making the wrong step and getting bashed, and I felt unsure as to how to start out.

Again, thanks for all the advice and for putting the time and energy into creating this Survival Guide.

For one thing, if you had read the rules then you would know that outing is not allowed.  For another thing, that isn't porn.  Lastly, if you look at the very bottom of the screen, you will see that you can toggle worksafe mode which will prevent you from seeing images marked M.

how is a woman showing her vagina not porn? Oo and there are others of naked women in sexual poses. But hey its not porn..its ART! oh..my mistake.

I have a real lack of respect for women who allow themselves to be photographed like this.

that's ok cause i never asked for your respect.

Wait a minute, but you shoot art nudes?? That's pretty hypocritical.

From your front page:

Not so much into: lifestyle, cars, bikinis, nudes (other then art nudes)

Welcome to my survival guide for MM newbies. This thread contains some tips and advices especially useful for people who are new to Model Mayhem. This thread will not help you become successful. This thread is designed only to help you stay out of trouble.

The guide contains mostly tips for people who are fairly new to modeling. Some tips are for models only, while some are universal and apply to photographers and stylists as well. There are two main components at this time.

1. Bio Do's and Dont's - talks about what are some of the things to avoid when you write your bio, as well as some other tips.

2a. The Ecology of MM Forums - learn the types of creatures that post in the forums.

2b. Basic Forum Survival Tips - avoid getting torn apart. It's not pretty.

Supplement:
- Acronym List
- FAQ on Forums

Disclaimer: This guide was written and provided to Mayhem members on volunteer basis. I, and other contributors, are not directly affiliated with ModelMayhem.com, its parent entity, or its subsidiaries.

Notes to other MM survivors:
If you have other survival tips, please feel free to provide them in the form of a reply. I will continue to add to this guide per your suggestion. I also reserve the right to choose which tips to include. Thanks in advance.

More comprehensive advice for new models

Top ten newbie mistakes:

10. Spamming the forum with request for work or vote for me threads.
9. Cross posting the same post into multiple forums.
8. Not searching the forums before asking.
7. Assuming you will change established norms because you think you're special.
6. Embedding NSFW images in the forum or using one as an avatar.
5. Asking if this is a scam or posting warnings about scams. It's already been posted.
4. Submitting a post thinking you can delete a thread or the original post.
3. Posting without lurking to see the lay of the land.
2. Not taking advice when you have been clearly proven wrong.
1. Posting a rant of any kind and doing it in ALL CAPS.

Bonus: Posting a rant talking shit about someone thinking you will get everyone's support. Sometimes the person you are talking about will come in and reveal your lies and you'll end up looking like an ass.

If you have to ask, "is this a scam?" or "is this guy legit?", then IT'S A SCAM.  But instead of posting the email you received from Joseph I. Blow--you know, the one that's full of bad spelling, grammar errors, and doesn't even have your name in it--and getting snarky, sarcastic remarks from all us forum regulars who are sick and tired of hearing "OMG check out this SCAM!", here are some helpful links for you to check out.

Please note that I wrote the below on Sept 17, so some of the searches may actually (and likely do) have more results if you were to search them now.

It's not that hard to, by doing a simple search or reading some of the stickied forum info, find the answers.  Do the research before posting, and you won't get bitched at here.  Pretty simple.  And to make it easier for you, I've done all the scam-related research for you!  Yay!

In Model Matters, this thread is stickied, and in that thread (which is one short post long) is THIS ONE, which is literally a guide on scams.

www.newmodels.com (which gives great info on the famous Nigerian scam) is linked right at the beginning of The List of Lists. Answers Already Answered (which is stickied on top of General Mayhem).

Searching "scam" in "Model Matters" on the Plastic Puppet search brings up 9 pages of results--that's JUST for Model Matters, not all of MM!  Searching "scam" on the Google search brings up 5 pages.

And let's not forget TX's thread, which does get buried in Model Matters, but it's a great resource.

The info is there and fairly easy to find.  People get snarky because EVERY DAY someone doesn't bother to do a search, and posts "is this a scam?", sometimes even when there's an active scam thread on the first page or two of the General, N00b or Model forums.  It took me 10 minutes to find everything I've linked here (and it only took that long because I'm multi-tasking at work and eating breakfast at the same time).

Here's an example of what NOT to post in the forum:
https://modelmayhem.com/posts.php?thread_id=131368

The result is angry bunny-mod stumping on you. It's way worse than having wolves tear you apart.

While you have the freedom to choosing who to work with, it is unwise to insult the ones you don't want to work with. Respect what other people do, and they'll be more likely to respect yours.

Wow.. that was very interestng.. thank you for the post! Im just going through the newbie forum.. tis me..
