A hairy arms are like hairy legs.

I don't agree that hairy arms are like hairy legs. In this century arm hair is perfectly acceptable, and leg hair on women is generally shunned. The gap between them is enormous.

btw, I just looked through Cosmopolitan and Flare - a lot of models arms have some fuzz on them (visible in light)

I don't think you should shave if its light or blonde or doesn't contrast with your skintone

I didn't say all women have to shave their arms.  I am saying that if someone has thick and hairy arms (i.e. pale skin model with dark thick hairy arms), that person should shave for any photo shoot that involves lingerie, swimsuit etc.  Photo retouching hair is extremely time intensive.  Plus, those hair arms hide all those skin textures.

Two models of equal talent and beauty, one with hair arms (one that you can clearly see hair) and the other without hairy arms.  Guess which I would prefer to shoot in lingerie or bikini?

By the way, some women don't have hairy legs.  Some people have really thin, fine hair that it looks like the hairs wasn't even their.

I think some photographers care about this, and some do not.

Bleaching arm hair is always an option as well.

I shaved my arms for a shoot, it helped it out quite a bit. I think it depends on the shoot and the style of the model and the photographer.

This thread is showing there is an infinite amount of variation and no rules. smile

I have dark thick hair, but my arm hair is very very fine. You can't see it in most lighting. I shaved them once in middle school, it took too long and I had a hard time reaching all the spots on my arms. I never did it again.

I think it makes my arms feels softer because there is a tiny layer of soft fuzz over them. :]

as a photog , here is my take.....
about 15 yrs ago, girls would shave just up to about half-thigh, and, in the summer when eveyone(most) had a good tan, it looked sexy. i have shot with models that had dark hair on the arm, and mentioned that they should get a 'hair lightner' so that it looks more natural, as in the summer. girls arm hair will naturally bleach out easily(most girls) in the summer, from exposure to the sun. it WILL NOT bleach from being in a tan  bed, no matter how long you go.

i personally like a girl with a little blonde 'peach-fuzz' on her body. it's a sexy look thing, and in my opinion, is a soft/texture thing on a girl/model.
i have even told a couple of models, not to shave the arm, just get the lightner stuff, and they really liked the way it did.

well just my thoughts, anyone else???????..........

Models who have gorilla arm hair know who they are and shave accordingly...or they just don't get booked.

I think it's up to the model to decide if she want's hairy arms or not. If the hair is very dark, it really can stand out in an image and be a bit of a distraction.

Ugh...nope. It's up to the photographer to have the girl do it if it bothers the photographer. Or simply hire a different girl. And tell the first guy why. Or don't tell her. As to me, frankly, as Rhett Butler famously told Scarlett O'hara, "I don't give a damn."

In some cultures women depilate their ENTIRE bodies, including arms. It's a matter of taste, and in paid shoots, a matter of what the photographer and client want.

It won't.  Wax them.  smile  The "they'll grow back thicker ohmygawd" thing is a wives' tale.  It's worth it - trust me.

I used to have a friend who shaved her arms...one day she was helping her little brother load something into the car, and he suddenly started jumping around and yelling. Turns out her arm had brushed against his, and her arm stubble actually drew blood.

My arm hair was really thick and dark, so I started shaving. It looks a lot better without hair, though I would love to have really light thin hair on my arms!

right then... so here is a valid question:

Are there any female models who don't shave or wax their hairy arms, and are interested in paid work to promote the subject of natural beauty?

Yeah....no. I don't shave anything, actually. smile

I don't modify my body for anyone but myself. Some photographers like that, and want to work with me. Some don't, and don't want to work with me. I am comfortable with that.

i personally HATE having hair on my body so I shave it all off, or wax, or use a depilatory of some sort to get rid of it.

I don't typically notice on other people unless it's obvious.

I just don't like touching my own skin when it's furry.

Which is weird because I love my men hairy. lol

One time, this model, who was so hairy, from head to toe, that she looked like a wolfman wanted to shoot, I asked her if she would trim her hair a bit, at least shave her beard, but she just howled at me and told me no, the hair stays.

Really is this a huge issue?  I mean, past shaving legs, tweezing eyebrows, armpits, and crotch?  The models I've worked with did all of those things and it didn't have to do with being a model, they did that anyways.

i wax my tattooed arm sometimes as i don't like the hair on there, even the shine from the fine blonde hairs makes the pictures less effective... but that's just my opinion. i don't think it really matters.

unless it's a cold location where hair can be gross coupled with goosebumps!

Quoting because more people need to hear this. It's SUCH a persistent myth.

I posted about this once and didn't get any replies. I thought my hairy arms had to go. Glad to finally have some confirmation.

I used to shave when I was younger but hate the constant stubble and shaving. I think I'll try bleaching it for now...until I become rich and can just laser it off. lol.

I have some shots from a shoot that I feel were perfect...had she shaved her arms...
it wasn't enough to be noticed regularly but when I uploaded the pics they were distracting.

I was highly peeved.

I really hope shaved arms doesn't become the new standard fad for women in society. The only thing less attractive than really hairy arms are arms with stubble, and red blotchy ingrown hairs.

I have hairy arms and used to shave them in HS because I was embarrassed.

Now I realize the beauty of myself the way I am and only alter them if I feel so inclined.
