Recently I received an email from HELLO MAGAZINE offering me a gig because they saw my profile on MM. They want to send me a check and then want me to forward part of the check to a wardrobe/stylist. Sounds like a scam. Anyone else receive this? R-

anything asking you to cash a check then forward part of it to somone else is a scam. what the do is send you a check for lets say $1000 and tell you they are paying you $500 then send the other $500 in a money order to the MUA or whatever. once the check you cashed bouces you pay back the $1000 and they have $500. the do this on craigslist too when people sell stuff. the buyer sends them a check for too much and ask for the rest back in a money order happened to my friend.

If it is the mag I think they are trying to pass off as, then they are a celeb gossip mag that would not be approaching you anyway. Also if they are doing a fshion spread they will only go through agencies and big ones at that.

SCAM anytime they send a check and ask for it to be forwarded to pay studio or some expense......it's always a SCAM, also if the contacted you VIA MM, take you email address off the profile, that's what scammers look for !

Of course its a scam. Why would anyone send you a big juicy cheque without first having at least met you?

I always wonder why the scammers can't send their own damn check to the stylist.

They are now using he name Rosemary Sarpong.  Still offering to send you a check and you deduct 300.00 and forward the remainder to the wardrobe stylist.  I received my email today and it was actually sent to another email address and when I replied and told them they apologized for the mistake and said it was intended for me.

Seem that they are now using Jason with a Yahoo address

Anytime I receive an e-mail like this (for weddings, gigs etc...) I just tell them I require payment via Western Union and I never hear from them again.

Scammers will be around for a LONG time! Unfortunately...

its scam i got the same thing last year i wrote the company about it and i got a reply, its been happening alot to this company yes it is real but its gotten so bad theres a post on the website talking about all these scammers and the names they go by. just discard the email you've gotten

I just received an offer filled with grammar errors from someone saying they are really thrilled with my photography work. The name this guy is using is "Garry Weaver." (Garry is actually spelled with 2 "r's") and he wanted me to forward my information over to someone named Katrina White. Katrina's email address is Katrina.white42@yahoo.com. I tried contacting the magazine and asking if these people work for them but I have not gotten a response back. It wasn't until I did a google search under "Hello Magazine scams" that I found out about this one. I have not sent them any information yet, but I will send them the link to this scam article. Obviously if they are contacting me then they will contact others. so I hope this will help those who receive suspicious email regarding modeling work. I got the same and instead of replying to the email got a copy of the magazine and using the publisher data contacted them. Yep, another person trying to bullshit a bullshitter.

The only 2 clues you would need in this case. Major clients like HELLO do NOT scout models and photographers on Model Mayhem. Second, If your Major Magazine job offer email you are sending your address, social security number and wifes bra size to is Hotmail.com or yahoo.com or gmail.com, this should be enough for your common sense to kick in.

Yes!scam I let them send me the check and kept the fed ex envelope that it came in with their name and emails now they have bigger problems on their hand . Now they are using a Anthony name .

If a major magazine wants you to shoot for them, they'll call your agent, not send you a form email.
