Is this a MM scam?
I know there are a ton of posts on scams and how to spot them, I've read most of them and even watched the video on how to avoid the basic ones that MM provides you with but I just received this message and I'm a little unsure of how to respond due to a few grammatical errors and the fact that I'm possibly being offered 1,200 dollars. Any information would be great .. Here is a copy of the MM message I just got. "Hi, My name is Craig Harper. You've got a sparkling figure and you could fit in for the upcoming Manhattan Fashion Magazine photo shoot that will hold somewhere in your area soon. You stand a chance of making $1,200 plus a noticeable fame. For more info as regards this opportunity, write an email to ([email protected]) and don't forget to include your MM # in the email so that your profile could be properly reviewed. Regards, Craig." Dec 08 12 02:17 pm Link Hi there, Yes, that is most likely a scam. It will reduce the number of scams and spams you receive. Never heard of someone described in that manner. Dec 08 12 02:40 pm Link It's a scam but not a "MM scam." Never cash a check for too much money and forward the overage to a third party. Dec 08 12 02:51 pm Link Most of the times these scams are written ambiguously so they don't have to rewrite their profile for everyone they send it to. "somewhere in your area" rather than the actual area means they're probably shotgunning it. if they tell you to email your MM#, its obvious they haven't taken a personal interest with you, its probably because they send it out a couple thousand times and they'll know which models are gullible enough to scam. Anyone who offers you fame is a scammer, or trying to manipulate you. Some may offer you "exposure" or "tearsheets" but if they are trying to offer you fame then they are appealing to your greed. As they say, you can't cheat an honest man! As i said, they will always use the words "exposure" or "tearsheets". Anyone genuinely offering a chance at fame has no reason to emphasize it, if you turn them down its your loss. So anyone putting a great deal of emphasis has an ulterior motive. Dec 08 12 02:59 pm Link Thanks so much for all of your replies! Dec 12 12 09:07 am Link I would like to know if most are legit, and at the same, does any paper work be exchanged? The 1st had me sign a standard form, the 2nd Zilch, and the 3 rd I haven't even gotten to yet. Is there a forum that can state models/photogs/etc that flake out? The 2nd one said I usually have to have have about 100+ items before paid work. If you want to check references for a member, do so in private. A simple way to do so is PM members credited in their images. Dec 13 12 04:29 pm Link It is definitely a scam! Jul 31 13 02:35 am Link a version of this scam has been going around for a few years now.. this line always cracks me up.."plus a noticeable fame." Jul 31 13 02:47 am Link Yes, if someone offers you money or fame it's a scam. It's that simple. Let me explain. There are 10 zillion models out there and 800,000 or so here on MM, (taking a guess of course). Anyone who swears they can get a model into any magazine is already charging their client $2000 a day and isn't scouting his / her own models. Very very very rarely will a big time photographer even speak to the model prior to the shoot let alone beg them to work together. The magazine has a team of people who do that already. The photographer just shows up on the set and does what they ask of him /her Anytime a photographer asks you to work with them and tell you they can get you published, it's a scam unless of course he owns the magazine / publishing company, which is highly unlikely. Magazine photogs don't beg anyone to shoot, they already have a line 20 miles long of girls wanting to be photographed. Jul 31 13 03:54 am Link Is this a scam...
