I know there are a ton of posts on scams and how to spot them, I've read most of them and even watched the video on how to avoid the basic ones that MM provides you with but I just received this message and I'm a little unsure of how to respond due to a few grammatical errors and the fact that I'm possibly being offered 1,200 dollars. Any information would be great .. Here is a copy of the MM message I just got.

"Hi,

My name is Craig Harper. You've got a sparkling figure and you could fit in for the upcoming Manhattan Fashion Magazine photo shoot that will hold somewhere in your area soon. You stand a chance of making $1,200 plus a noticeable fame. For more info as regards this opportunity, write an email to ([email protected]) and don't forget to include your MM # in the email so that your profile could be properly reviewed.

Regards,

Craig."

Hi there,

Yes, that is most likely a scam.
If you ever think you're being scammed or spammed on MM, please send us a CAM, and please include a link to the member's profile #
http://www.ripoffreport.com.php

If you go to your My Stuff page, you will see a image that reads "Avoid Scams"... it looks like this:
https://mms.ibsrv.net/images/info/AvoidScams.jpg

Click on that image for some helpful hints, and then also click on the link that takes you to this detailed Scam Guide.

I recommend that members consider removing personal email addresses, phone #s, and IMs from their bio page. It will reduce the number of scams and spams you receive. Instead, initiate contact and communications on MM via the MM private messaging system, tags, etc. Once you know someone is legit, use whatever medium you prefer to continue the communications.

Finally, here are some other useful and informative threads, found here on MM, created and maintained by MM members.

Pretty sure she means that she got the offer from an MM member via MM's private messaging system.

Sparkling figure? Never heard of someone described in that manner.

Anyway, not only is the grammar very poor, but NYC print (or even online only) publications (which seems to be what "Manhattan Fashion Magazine" is) do not need to go on MM to look for fashion models.

Offering $1,200 in compensation to non-fashion individuals, with candid snapshots on their online portfolios (no offense intended), instead of modeling contracts is a red flag.

When in doubt, contact the publication directly, before engaging anyone providing an email that is not associated with the company that s/he claims to represent. Even if it is an online-only publication,  confirm the legitimacy of the event, and confirm the contact information that was provided.

Isn't is interesting that a company that is offering $1,200 in prizes cannot afford to provide their own employees with an email address?

Remote casting calls, which want to lure you into email conversations by offering wages offered to signed models, are likely setting you up for a scam.
Don't learn this lesson the hard way.

It's a scam but not a "MM scam."

Never cash a check for too much money and forward the overage to a third party.

Most of the times these scams are written ambiguously so they don't have to rewrite their profile for everyone they send it to. "somewhere in your area" rather than the actual area means they're probably shotgunning it. if they tell you to email your MM#, its obvious they haven't taken a personal interest with you, its probably because they send it out a couple thousand times and they'll know which models are gullible enough to scam.

Anyone who offers you fame is a scammer, or trying to manipulate you. Some may offer you "exposure" or "tearsheets" but if they are trying to offer you fame then they are appealing to your greed. As they say, you can't cheat an honest man!

Maybe if MM shot a few gatekeepers every time one of these scammers got an MM profile then perhaps there'd be fewer scammers on MM.

Just avoid anyone using that wording! As i said, they will always use the words "exposure" or "tearsheets". Anyone genuinely offering a chance at fame has no reason to emphasize it, if you turn them down its your loss. So anyone putting a great deal of emphasis has an ulterior motive.

I've NEVER seen a post where someone wondered whether it was a scam that wasn't a scam. 100%.

If you even THINK it sounds fishy, it is.

I was gonna say, 'somewhere in your area' is a dead giveaway. This phrase keeps popping up in these scams.

Yes, because their profile texts always include the phrase "a noticeable fame" or something similar as they like to be easy to spot.

I would like to know if most are legit, and at the same, does any paper work be exchanged?  The 1st had me sign a standard form, the 2nd Zilch, and the 3 rd I haven't even gotten to yet.

Is there a forum that can state models/photogs/etc that flake out?  The 2nd one said I usually have to have have about 100+ items before paid work.

Is S Taillefer Photographe reputable, I apologize in advance in a offend, but rather than than than sorry

Respectful to all

Christopher, public "outing" of members is not allowed here. If you want to check references for a member, do so in private. A simple way to do so is PM members credited in their images.

Yes, if someone offers you money or fame it's a scam. It's that simple.

Let me explain. There are 10 zillion models out there and 800,000 or so here on MM, (taking a guess of course).

Anyone who swears they can get a model into any magazine is already charging their client $2000 a day and isn't scouting his / her own models.

Very very very rarely will a big time photographer even speak to the model prior to the shoot let alone beg them to work together. The magazine has a team of people who do that already. The photographer just shows up on the set and does what they ask of him /her

Anytime a photographer asks you to work with them and tell you they can get you published, it's a scam unless of course he owns the magazine / publishing company, which is highly unlikely.

Magazine photogs don't beg anyone to shoot, they already have a line 20 miles long of girls wanting to be photographed.

Is this a scam... I'm pretty sure it is lol

Hello Liz,
Good morning, how was your weekend?
thanks for your fast response, You've been chosen out of the screening

physical features we needed for our cataloged update. Presently the
company (Fred Perry) needs some few new faces/models to advertise
their
new outfit (NOTE: no nudity, fetish, bondage or other adult content
stuff....It's strictly a fashion shoot!!!) and i am the favored
supervisor for the project coming up in Colorado.
               DATE:
The shoot date is 31st August and 1st of September (NOTE THAT ON YOUR CALENDAR).

together, you could be invited over to the company and sign a year
contract with us if you pose pretty well. In order for this effect i

asap.
You will first receive $300 to start with, which will be mail to you
immediately, this is for your transportation allowance only (NOTE: The

The shoot locations are within the hotel premises and a nice studio
close to the hotel. I will be in the hotel two days before the
shooting day.

I will also like to trust you take care of the make-up artist fee
