So like WTF is up with our braindead Astronomer Scientists?  According to news sources, the meteor coming in later today is SMALLER than this one that impacted Earth earlier today.  Why are they watching THAT ONE and not monitoring THIS ONE?... roll

My understanding is the opposite.

The asteroid DA14, which passed by earth just a few minutes ago, is about 1/2 a football field in diameter.

The meteor that entered the atmosphere over Russia this morning was much smaller.

There is a video out there from a dashboard camera of a guy driving around in a parking lot, probably a security guard, showing the shock wave arriving some two and a half minutes after the flash. In many cases the shock wave came as the folks went outside buildings to take pictures of the funny clouds and got rained on by falling glass from windows. Ouch.

Note to self: do not stand near windows after a meteor flash.

Well fuck.  It's not showing up but there's a great meme that says:

In Soviet Russia, space explore you!

Far funnier not explained.

You got that completely bass-ackwards.

The object passing Earth is 150 feet in diameter. The object that blew up over the Russian town was about 50 feet wide before it hit the atmosphere.

That's not what I understand.  The DA14 asteroid (which just passed by Earth without contact) is half a football field in length (approximately 150ft)... and that's BEFORE it would enter the Earths atmosphere.  The asteroid that streaked across the Russian skies, ended up making a whole the size of a small house... and that's AFTER it blew up and majorly disintegrated before it made contact... wink

50 feet estimate for the Russian object before it hit the atmosphere.
150 feet size of the flyby asteroid.

50 is smaller than 150.

So you're saying that the Russian meteorite was 50 feet in diameter BEFORE it entered the Earth's atmosphere, and created an ice whole crator larger than 50 feet in diameter AFTER it exploded and hit the ground?  A metorite blazing thru the atmosphere would lose a SIGNIFICANT amount of it's mass while burning up and before making impact.  That's what makes sence to me... wink

Look at the picture of the hole in the ice. It's not even close to 50ft in diameter. More like 15-20ft across.

The crater we see was likely made from a fragment of the original meteor. I've seen grenades, landmines and dynamite make craters that size... but they aren't traveling at tens of thousands of miles per hour. wink

ETA: The meteor was estimated to be about 10 tons when it entered the atmosphere. I would guess that's the size of a large boulder.

That is a very remote area of Russia...I guess they have not found the other two yet...

This Meteor was made up of Rocks. That is why it broke up entering in Earth's Atmosphere..Metal Meteor...would of stayed together and would of been much worst.

For fucks sake guys, the chunk that landed in Russia today was no more than 5ft across, yet a rock of that size weighing 10 tons or more can easily create a hole 15-20ft across.

Answer with some sense. Don't flip out about the story. Your claim that the hole was 100ft across show incredible cluelessness or just plain dishonesty.
