The Fujifilm X-H1 is poised to be the best-performing X Series mirrorless camera ever made. Highlights include in-body image stabilization (IBIS), DCI 4K video and 5x 1080p slow-motion video recording, a new film simulation mode, and a Flicker Reduction mode in a weather-resistant body that costs less than $1900.

The heart of the X-H1 is the 24.3 X-Trans CMOS III image sensor (with a primary color filter) paired with the X-Processor Pro Processor. Processor names are always marketing bunk, but the key takeaways are these — you can shoot up to 8fps with the mechanical shutter or 14fps with the electronic shutter, the native 200-12800 ISO range is expandable to 100-51200. In other words, quick and solid low-light performance.

The biggest news is that the X-H1 will be Fujifilm’s first X Series camera to feature 5-axis IBIS, which gives you 5.5 stops of exposure compensation and should smooth out your videos. Speaking of which, the X-H1 can record two different forms of 4K: 1) DCI 4K, aka 4096×2160, the resolution used in professional filmmaking, where you can shoot up to 24fps. Or 2) 4K Ultra HD, aka 3840×2160, the resolution used on 4K TV, Ultra HD Blu-rays, and streaming, where you can shoot up to 30fps. In either 4K mode, recording time is limited to 15mins. In Full HD, aka 1920×1080, you can shoot up to 60fps or select a 1080/120p Slow Motion mode that allows you to slow the footage down up to 5x (if it’s like other systems, it records an in-camera 24p Full HD file).

Like other higher end X Series models, the X-H1 is pretty dang tough. With dust and weather resistance, you can run the X-H1 safely in temps down to 14°F \ -10°C. Plus, this lightweight ILC body has been constructed with 25% thicker magnesium alloy than the X-T2 and also features a scratch-resistant coating.

Let’s also talk about that the Flicker Reduction Mode. Many cameras help you take photos when you’re shooting under fluorescent and mercury lighting, but the X-H1 help you get stable exposures when shooting in the camera’s burst modes. Speaking of fast things, Fujifilm’s Hybrid Contrast-Phase AF system features an improved algorithm increases AF-C performance when zoomed in on rapidly-moving subjects,  allows it to focus at -1.0 EV (a 1.5 stop improvement), and expands the minimum aperture from F8 to F11.

And, if you want even more performance out of the X-H1 consider picking up the Vertical Power Booster Grip (VPB-XH1), which will be available as part of a kit. This grip not only improves ergonomics, but boosts burst mode shooting to 11fps, 4K video recording times to 30mins, and battery life up to 900 still shots. Just as weather resistant as the X-H1 itself, the grip also includes a plethora of different dials and buttons as well as a headphone jack for monitoring your audio recording.
