Well if you mean by that, that light is light, no matter how many strobes you use (7 in this case),
then you are right.

I find it hilarious when people who shoot strictly fashion, throw judgement on the glamour genre.   Not every frickin' photo has to tell a story....sometimes the story is a simple one- ie, the girl is hot.

End of story.

I do not find these photos boring, I find them beautiful. I find the models to be sensual and welcoming. I also find the photographers who can't appreciate all genres of photography to be closed minded turds.

I am a big fan of Marc Goldstein and his Red Chair series.

Im definitely not of the camp that light is light but Id agree that its a fair enough assesment to make about strobes if they are your only source.  I was suggesting that what might be considered basic for someone like T. Del Ruth might be seen as complicated by a good amount of 600 guys hoping to get into asc someday.  Like I said before, there are a million ways to skin a cat, Ive watched gaffers unload an entire truck to light similar looking setups, especially so on commercials, and have seen other guys do it with 1/100th of the g/e equipment, half the crew and no rigging, whatever.

In the end its the image that matters, not how you arrive at it and the one lesson Ive learned repeatedly over the years with lighting is that there are sooooooo many ways to arrive at a similar look, its often not worth the time it takes to deconstruct someone elses style and way more worthy of your efforts to just learn the basic shit and figure out the ratios that work for your own style best.

First things first, these photos are hardly dark when you have an 11 or 16 stop, why you would want that kind of depth for photos like this is a mystery to me...

Seems obvious enough to me. There seems to be a purposeful use of wide-angle distortion, and when you can't get close *and* fit the model front to back / top to bottom within the DoF, you have to close the aperture.

The only other option is to have the model out of focus, or step away from the subject and get a much more compressed (and less interesting) perspective.
