If everyone and anyone that has a camera will be allowed on this site and is not a legit photographer YES, I want to know that.
For my own piece of mind and safety I want to know the people I am working with are of a professional nature and have a common goal of getting good photos and no other reason.

No dear, that isn't MODEL MAYHEMS job to fill you in. That is YOUR job. Ever heard of references? Then use them.

Just because someone is "professional" and takes awesome photographs doesn't necessarily mean that they have no hidden agendas. Just because you have a long list of credits doesn't mean that you are doing this in the best interest of the model.  There are still some FLAKY photographers out there who are sitting on top!

My 14-year-old son was telling me the other day about how all his high school friends are on MySpace. I'm no big time Photographer, no Amsel Adams, or an Art purist in anyway, shape, or form, but I'll never create a profile for my photography anywhere my son and his high school pals congregate.

It just ain't doing right by my work. Lol.

Unfortunately, a read through some of the threads reveals a good deal of high school mentality showing up on this site.

If you think the forums are becoming amateurish and declininig in quality, it's incumbent upon you to try and improve them.  They're YOUR forums too.

No, it's not incimbent upon me.  I'm not anyone's father.

How about this....

All rookie models with webcam/homegrown pics are sent a notice that they have 30 days to improve their portfolio with professional photos or they will be deleted. Come 30 days, they don't improve... POOF!

I volunteer to handle the Ohio area.

I'm on my space.  This site is NOTHING like my space.  I get e-mails from guys wanting to meet me on my space, like it's an internet dating place, when I have "networking" as the only thing marked.  People don't read, so why should I expect to get anywhere on my space?  I won't and I know that I won't.  It's not even good for networking !!!  It's good for internet dating.  That's about it.

Again...if you don't like something, then don't look at it !!!  You have the choice !!!

BTW...please look up the word "amateur".  Dictionary.com's definition of amateur is: A person who engages in an art, science, study, or athletic activity as a pastime rather than as a profession.

Sure, it also DOES mean lacking professionalism.  But professionalism means different things also.

Of, relating to, engaged in, or suitable for a profession: lawyers, doctors, and other professional people.

Conforming to the standards of a profession: professional behavior.

Engaging in a given activity as a source of livelihood or as a career: a professional writer.

Performed by persons receiving pay: professional football.

Having or showing great skill; expert: a professional repair job.

Myspace and Friendster are free but they are pretty much useless as a dating site or place to meet friends, since probably 2/3 of the portfolios are either fake or designed as an advertisement for some other site - which is why places like match.com can still charge $$$ and have lots of members - because there is a basic review mechanism.

If this site ends up having 2/3 of its members as not models or photographers, but people who are here just for the hell of it or to advertise instead, then it will not be as useful either.

I was looking for a photographer in Florida and this person was listed as a photographer:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=9487

It's sort of like searching a dating site for a person to go out to dinner with and instead being sent being presented with the profile of an automobile dealership.

This site is fun but its no replacement for the paysites that at least review the content.

Well if you're not part of the solution, you'll just end up being part of the problem.  I make a point of being as serious and intelligent on these forums as possible, whcih is the only contribution i can make.  If you don't want to do at least that much, I don't know why you bother with the forums at all, since you apparently don't care about them very much.

Mai dtem Baht---It is thai for my two coins(value less than 1 penny)

It is a that term used for a person that will often ask a question when they know the answer.  The Mai dtem Bahter just wants to see the reaction of the responders.
It is can also mean that some whose logic is flawed or someone who intentions are unjust.

Back to your regularly schedualed fight over what exactly I am not sure.

I just thought you might like a quick thai lesson.

have a good day all.

Mai pen rai.

I'm trying to figure out how much crack your intacking into your system.

1. I have seen nothing on this site to compair it to a dating site

2. The example you gave is someone looking for a spokes model basically for their product, though wrongfully placed it is on the right site to look for someone.

I'm sorry this site is not fitting your needs you obviously need a site that is nothing but pro models looking to work with a very special amature photographer who thinks he is special.

Since you're not interested in listening to anyone else, at least tell us about these magical paysites that "review content."  You certainly can't be talking about OMP, because all I ever get from that site is notices about which strippers, escorts, and teenaged girls with webcams are new in my area.  On MM i've been in contact with interesting and talented people...and not a stripper/escort yet.

You must obviously know of some site that I don't.

I also am on myspaace, and agree, it's a meatmarket/dating site type of thing.  I've been there for a while now, and have yet to get any kind of questions about shooting models,  whether paid or tfp.
Now, one of the girls I love shooting, I found on OMP.  She had webcam pics up, I bookmarked her, when she turned 18, I sent an email. "Congrats on your birthday. Now, lets' see what we can do about getting you off those webcam pics"...lol
She responded. and we BOTH are improving our techniques and quality.  * you can see her in my sink on my profile here or OMP..lol*
*** and by the way, while I am not "dating" anyone on myspace, SHE is..  *the dork* (him, not her) And she keeps getng hit on by guys that have no clue as to how to conduct themselves out in the real world..lmao
Anyhow, true, I am not a long time poster in the forums, but I look around in here.  I do enjoy the shout *to a point, y'all need to use the chat room more,,lol* (plug) I enjoy networking with those I've met here, and love it.  I've had some good ideas, some questions answered, and have a few models that want to work with me. GREAT..  lots better responce than myspace...*zero over there* lol  And I look forward to getting together with those that have displayed an interest in my work, and want to shoot with me.
*yeah  i know, i'm semi-pro, but hopefully one day, I can get this turned into something that does pay the bills.. *
Even if OP thinks my models suck...lol
k, off my box...

These personal attacks have no place here and are even against the rules of this website. It's amazing how a simple opinion is turning into a heated argument with a lot of personal attacks.

I thought these forums were a place for us to voice our opinions and not launch rude personal attacks on the person making the posting.

I actually like this site a lot and want it to succeed and get better, I'm entitled to present suggestions for improvement just like everyone else.

One of the best models I've ever worked with started with a pic taken by her boyfriend w/a 25.00 digi camera. She now works regularly in NYC.

I bought the best equip possible, but all my work sucked. However, I was allowed to 'start'.

I see work here that is so not me, but have gained an appreciation for different styles and eyes through brief exchanges about each others work. I have also gotten some very nice referrals.

I agree for the site to succeed it has to have an ongoing agenda. But, the moderators seem to be doing a responsive job of getting rid of the true idiots. I hope that this remains a place where 'everyone' can feel comfortable learning and participating.

I made no personal attack I made a comment because I think your way out there on your comments and there is no basis for your comments. I also justified why your comments are way out there.

This site has it's flaws, much like every site out there. But I have not seen the trolling for dates and the blatent ads for items outside of the industry that you are pointing out as being all over the place.

People using this site to get there clothing line shown can easily be considered part of the industry. Unless you plan on doing nothing but completely nude images with no props. I think by reading all of your post that you tend to be rather clueless on what this industry is. If pointing out the obvious is a personal attack then I'm guilty as charged and let Reese and company come and haul my butt away for a severe beating with noodles but I think I am correct and looking over the other responses to your original post I'm not alone.

Maybe you should review your post and see how silly sounding you have been. Looking over your portfolio on MM shows you have very little work with models so maybe you need to investigate the industry a little more. myspace was never and will never be a model site and neither is Match.com so why you have braught those up amazes me. Maybe you like trolling those sites for prospects I don't know but there are much better places and yes some of those charge.

I personally think MM is a good place though I think they need to increase the bandwidth to speed the place up and they need to improve the search part a bit.

Hmmm.. 9487... Looks like someone seeking a model for a specific print assignment. Seems pretty much on target for what we do here.

General Stormin Norman said it rather eloquently. What was that he said? Storming, Norming and Forming. MM is still somewhere in the Storming phase.

I agree with your post...

What I find funny is that when someone cannot debate on facts they start accusations of being personally attacked.

CocoBongo was slick in the sense that he was able to divert most people away from his original post. Went from wannabee photographers and models to a dating site.

He just needs to admit that he let his ego get the best of him and learn from the responses posted. Remember that so called wannabee model with the webcam photo could be your next supermodel. As for the photographer issue. To me this is a site for anyone into the fashion/glamour scene including everything in between. I personally don't think CocoBongo's portfolio fits with that scene BUT I WOULD NEVER SAY HE DOES NOT BELONG HERE! An interesting observation I made was the 2 people I remember making these elitist and arrogance statements about wannabee models and photographers didn't even have any fashion/glamour photos in their portfolios.

My $2.00 worth.
