Do Strippers Make Good Models ?
Since starting Photography approx 7 years ago Ive pretty well exclusively shot Fashion and Fashion MOdels ( in addition to music ) but as of recent Ive decided to branch out and do more nude work ...of course mainy fashion models have little interest in this genre ( in my experience ) so I am contemplating other sources ... Jul 26 08 12:52 pm Link Some make decent glamour models. I can't get them to NOT be all glam, so they can be difficult to use. They think they always have to have that fuck me look on their face. Better photographers may get more out of them for their artwork. Just like most things here, it depends. Jul 26 08 12:54 pm Link Yes. Jul 26 08 12:54 pm Link Garry k wrote: They can be. Most I have known just start to dance because that's what they know. I have to slow them down and pose them a bit to get better shots most of the time. They can hit the sexy button real easy too. They go 0 - Whoa baby! in seconds. So yes, they can be had. Rich Jul 26 08 12:56 pm Link Garry k wrote: Sometimes the lighting in a strip club is dark for a reason. Jul 26 08 12:57 pm Link Garry k wrote: LOL. Well, then strippers are you PERFECT choice. Some will even do TFP. Lots want to start up websites but don't know how. If you're good, they may even pay you. I've never met a stripper that didn't want his/her picture taken. Jul 26 08 12:58 pm Link Someone always takes my camera at the strip club. Jul 26 08 12:58 pm Link The few I have shot have been great. They moved well, were on time, help out on the shoot, as did their escorts, and I would shoot any and all of them again. Jeff Jul 26 08 12:58 pm Link Sometimes Jul 26 08 12:59 pm Link Absolutely... 3 dancers in my port!! The most difficult part is winning their trust. Be VERY business-like when approaching them, and don't think you are telling them anything they haven't already heard. Have a physical portfolio to show them first thing... Jul 26 08 01:00 pm Link Christopher Hartman wrote: Yes I would want to see them in the light of day in order to make a decision Jul 26 08 01:00 pm Link I have never shot with a stripper before. However I have shot with several models who were in the adult business and the obvious advantage in shooting with them for glamour or nude setups is the level of comfort they bring to the shoot. You can run any idea, any pose, any suggestion by them without having to worry about shocking her. I would imagine that a stripper has that comfort level, but that is only an assumption and therefore not proven... Good luck to you, ~PP Jul 26 08 01:01 pm Link My friend use to use them for catwalk and they tend to be very confident with few inhibitions. Jul 26 08 01:01 pm Link Sometimes is a good answer... as much as any other person, really. Jul 26 08 01:03 pm Link I got started in photography when a close friend became a stripper. I took her pics at her request, she showed them around and within a year I was the de facto photographer to all the strippers in my area. I love them, they are almost always easy to work with, open minded, fun and great people. While not al of them are gorgeous, certainly a lot of them are and they know how to pose, how to move and how to look great naturally. I wish a lot of the "models" I've worked with had the same sense of self awareness. Several of the girls in my portfolio here and on my Myspace gallery are strippers, and I suspect most people wouldn't be able to say who was and who wasn't. Given a choice, I would pick working with the stripper any time. Jul 26 08 01:07 pm Link Oh yes! Jul 26 08 01:16 pm Link Ultra Magnus wrote: LOL... Jul 26 08 01:20 pm Link Leroy Dickson wrote: QFT - Jul 26 08 01:21 pm Link In my experience, no. They tend to want to go into their dance routine poses. Jul 26 08 01:22 pm Link Depends, if you get one thats new to dancing your pretty much good to go, they are comfortable with their bodies and often can put on a pretty good smile in front of the camera. On the other hand, with the "veterans" you can usually tell that they are strippers just by looking at the photos, something dead in the eyes I think. Jul 26 08 01:24 pm Link strippers are ok as models... just don't schedule shoots in the am, and you'll be fine... Jul 26 08 01:26 pm Link LuckyShots wrote: I can't disagree with this more. One of my favorite models is a woman who has been dancing for more than a decade. In fact most of the best stripper/models I've worked with are those who've been at it for a while. Nothing "dead" about any of them. Jul 26 08 01:29 pm Link Like anything else it depends on the person. I've photographed many many strippers. It's a lot easier to win their trust as a woman though. I've found that a lot of them are more self conscious than models, which makes it difficult when it shows up as uncomfortable looks in their eyes. The cool thing is though, that most of them have great musculature (stripping IS a workout if you do it right!) so they work wonderful for fine art or figure studies. Jul 26 08 01:30 pm Link Jul 26 08 01:33 pm Link Im a 'stripper' and i also model. I have never been a no call no show, or show up an hour late for any shoot! I guess it all depends on the individual. Ive met other models who were dancers who were fabulous models. But inn my experience, most dancers are flaky and unreliable and ALWAYS late. Just my two cents Jul 26 08 01:34 pm Link I have to say yes also as most of the models here and on my web site are exotic dancers. they are at ease with there bodies and know what moves and poses make there bodies look good. Then, i click send and look at the message above mine and see my link..! Youre making me blush.. Jul 26 08 01:36 pm Link They're a mixed bunch I think. Some have great physiques and know how to move their bodies but the down side is that when it comes to paid work they expect hourly rates that are similar to what they would earn in clubs. That's just not realistic in glamour (non-adult) photography. Jul 26 08 01:36 pm Link Garry k wrote: Hell yeah. Jul 26 08 01:39 pm Link Dumb question, that's like askin', "Do white people make good models?" Everyone is different. Jul 26 08 01:39 pm Link Garry k wrote: 'course, don't wanna generalize too much, right? that'd almost be like 'do left-handers make good models?' or vegetarians? models who can't swim? etc. ... Jul 26 08 01:41 pm Link Usually, yes. Sometimes, trainwreck. Jul 26 08 01:41 pm Link ShivyK wrote: I totally agree... Jul 26 08 01:42 pm Link PashaPhoto wrote: You can get them to work in the am... like 12 - 3 am :-) Jul 26 08 01:45 pm Link i danced for years it depends on the type dancer ..some dancers where all about fake eyelashes extentions etc very glam some arent some hardly wear any makeup even on stage some have a cups some have dd some tiny like 95lbs some are 129 but most are all in shape so it depends Jul 26 08 01:46 pm Link but we do alotta posing on stage and where not afarid the camera and we can change really fast lol Jul 26 08 01:46 pm Link those I've worked with have been just fine and dandy. a few you have to work a bit with to get that "ultra vixen" look off their face, if that's a look you're not trying to achieve. still. they KNOW the power of using their eyes, and that frequently makes for a good shot!
