So I have over $10,000 in my account that I use my debit card
for(purchases)
I have to go to Guitar Center this weekend to get a few of
my guitars set up,and possibly change pick ups on my 7 string.

OK

What could possibly go wrong with me walking into a store
with Paul Reed Smiths, possibly a few custom shop Charvels
or Jacksons calling out to me yikes

Mind yo at least half the $$ in my account is earmarked for
new glass and such(of course that could have been solved
had any of the local stores actually had in stock what I was
looking for mad )

If only half the $ was earmarked for new glass then spend the other half on the guitars.

Ehh....I keep forgetting these super stores like Guitar Center
and Sam ash only carry stock items....very few custom shop
thingies that I would be interested, and the few they did have
in store were absurdly overpriced)a 30`th aniversery Jackson Randy
Rhodes that looked and probably sounded exactly like the
one I have that I bough for $1100 in 1990,was going for $4700..
ehh...not)What usually gets me is the used section, especially
Amplifiers you never see in stores(ie,old Mesa Boogies,Rivera
Engl,ect)....
Only thing I picked up was a whammy pedal ....

I remember telling my cousin about seven years ago, that i had spent $4000 on my D1x.
he said to me: "i hope the images reflect that price, cause if you spent that much and the pictures look like they could have been shot with my $200 camera, your gonna look like a fool..." When he saw my images, he said: "money well spent"

personally, i could have used his camera for everything i have ever shot...
i think of that every time i think about purchasing new equipment.

white lenses might make you feel cool, but they are not going to make your images any better...

Its what I Do with this new gear.....just tools.
I`ve seen way too many people spend a TON of $$ on top
of the line bodies, and such....and their work either stagnates
or even deteriorates, because they think the gear is what gets
great pictures..
Everyone has been telling me to upgrade,get a 7D,get a 5D ll
I feel I can get great images just with my 50D,and if anything
get a 2nd 50D as a backup/alt camera..
I`d rather invest in glass...
I don`t have a zoom right now,I personally tried the 70-200
and absolutely loved what I did with it just by simple shooting with
it on spot....
Give me a few weeks/months to play with it,.I`ll only
be using this glass with natural light(no flashguns/flashes,just the
sun and any ambient light I have)only....because its time
to step my game up to the next level....in a major way...
..
Not going to allow myself to fall into the trap I described above

So I`m walking around Ybor after grabbing some sushi
at Samurai Blue....
haven`t hung here in like....over 5 years here,figured I`d just
see whats happening down here(definitely not the same, which
is good and bad I guess...not planning on actually going in
a club as I can`t drink and I`m not going to pay a cover to
stand around watching everyone else have fun,but I digress)
Notice a pizzaria with the following sign
"Old Manhattan,best pizza in Ybor"
OK
Chris looks inside pizzaria....
and notices the pizza being cooked on A FUCKING CONVEYER BELT OVEN
which is how places such as Pizza Hut and Dominos cook theirs...
That my friends is all I need to see to know I will never set foot
in that place(demm...even Sbarro cooks their pizza in a conventional
pizza oven)

really hmm

I actually like Roma...or the little hole in the wall place right
across the street.......
Hmmm
I can`t see how a conveyor belt oven cooks a pizza better
than a tradional oven.....
Maybe this one is set up propperly (my experience from
the above places cooked on a conveyor belt is that 1 in 3 pies
are actually cooked right, not burned to a crisp or even
worse undercooked

The place I was questioning(Old Manhatten)is across from Tabu,
and the Full Moon Saloon)

I think the place you are talking about is called
Roma...which is right next to Coyote Ugly and there is a cigar
bar across the street called Ybor Cigar Plus.....

if that is the place(Roma...don`t see NY NY, might have changed
names...its called Roma)
yes...this place is really good...
In fact I`m standing right in front of it right now and it still smells
awsome

Greg I was actually going to head up to Caddys or something.
,until I filled my tank and saw it hit $40 and still going...
Then realized I`d be driving up there to do basicly what
I`m doing right now...just laying out...or wandering around
(one thing that sucks about living so far from the beach out
here in Brandon=the drive...and parking)...
So I just took care of my errands and am poolside
(awaits the snickers from the peanut gallery about me trying
to save $$ after comming into a little cash, and talking about
getting new L series glass...trust me after these purchases
I go back into full frugal mode)

Chris, congrats on moving towards some good glass!  It will be glass that will last for a long long long time and you will never regret the purchase.  I'm about 20min from Ft. De Soto and I had a shoot...so I "HAD TO GO".  Stressful, I know.  big_smile

I shot a friend that I have shot before.  We both got there early, were on the beach and ready a few minutes prior to sunrise (7AM), the weather was perfect, she knows the drill and we were done at 8:45 AM!  We shot 4 suits and that was it.  It was refreshing to get great results so quickly, get home and still have my day.

Gas prices are crazy and I am thinking twice about driving to places these days.  I am thinking about some nature photography "Day Trips" to some of my favorite places but I'm kinda shying away a bit.  I will probably end up waiting until reg unleaded hits $4/gallon.  Ugh!

I should just sit at home, edit the nature photos I have taken over the past two years, visit my local spots, build myself a new photography website and just be happy with that for a while.  After all, I should save some serious cash up if I want to go to Yellowstone for 2-3 weeks this year.  This "Hobby" ain't cheap.

Too bad there isn't a REAL reason for these prices going up.. If this was construction, like Andrew and 2004, these stations would be getting reamed for price gouging. And oddly, they aren't...  At least it's REALLY clear who's running things.

Hopefully you won`t be getting a once in humanity photography
chance when you go....while the caldera is showing all the normal
activity patterns (the anual earthquake swarm in the Norris
region when the snow melts and the running water finds all the cracks
and faults)...and probably won`t do anything nasty...
still ,so little is known about caldera`s like this and the precoursurs..
always good to check the USGS site and what the volcanic
activity code is at....
Hell....for all we know we could have  a new calder forming in
Arkensas....and if this goes up we down here will get major
ashfall issues

I decided not to worry about anything like that.  If people worried about spontaneous death by nature, I doubt ANYONE would live in California because of the earth quakes that are much more frequent.

Who said that? Not me..  It's not an R or D thing, it's a greed thing..  Show most people money and they'll take even if it means fucking over their own mother.. Sad really.

That said, certain R's were in the boudoir of a certain middle eastern family.  The big pic is, it's both sides..

Most likely things to be printed on my tombstone
"sucked to death by tornado"
"zapped to death by lightning"
"immolated by pyroclastic cloud from volcano because he was
stupid enough to try to get pictures of it"

Tell you what...
Seeing as probably 75% of the country will die in one form
or another if Yellowstone goes up(either directly by the eruption
or the ensuing ice age and starvation)
I would love to try to get pics somehow, not every day you
have the chance to photograph a VEI eruption

I love this time of year for the temps but hate this time of year for the same reason you do.  I felt like I was in a video game this morning when walking outsite....trying to dodge all of the oak bloom that was diving out of the sky, directly towards my head to kill me.  Ugh!

so, I was thinking about getting off my ass, start shooting again and building up a new website. Mind you mine has been expired for some time now.  I go to re-register and some dingus is now holding bgcfoto.com.  He is just holding it so someone (myself) would buy it back at a premium I'm sure.  Fortunately I am evolving thus may update my net handle to my own name anyway. Yeah that is lame though.  Whatever, how is everyone doing?  I'm thinking of doing something along the lines of:

http://www.edwinrphotography2.com
or
http://www.dougswinskey2.com
or even
http://web.me.com/tropicalphotography2/ … lcome.html

(bty Keith can yours be any longer?)

Moral of the story is are two things:
1. don't let your domain lapse
2. don't get a domain a mile long like Wolfie.  smile
