There is no justification for what he's done. NONE. I agree. His actions were unarguably wrong according to my values. Just as law enforcement unloading on a truck with two paper ladies was unarguably wrong. Just as a cops beating the holy hell out of Rodney King was wrong. Just as using drones to assassinate targets while slaughtering innocents is wrong. But some of these things are viewed with outrage. Some are dismissed as somebody's else's problem. And some are officially sanctioned as 'the right thing to do'. That doesn't seem so black and white to me anymore.

I feel sorry for his mom and sister. Not only have they lost a family member, but they will have to live with the aftermath. Very sad.

His inability to rationally deal with the problems he was confronted with in life certainly shouldnt have resulted in his family paying this price. Assuming that he was the suspect today, and assuming he was trapped in the cabin, then this saga can end. Sadly, it took yet another life and another officer in serious condition to end it. I would have MUCH preferred that he be taken into custody so the the facts of the case could be put on record in court, so that a jury of his peers could sit in sober, informed judgement. Instead, he will be tried in the media, on the streets, with little regard for the actual law, and probably less regard for actual facts. There will be a number of folks who will be inclined to make him into a folk hero, there are already Facebook pages praising him and his "fight" against "the man". There will probably be an equal number of folks who think he "got off easy", and should have been fed to rabid dogs. And all he will have accomplished with his life will have been to murder, maim, and divide people and increase the very racism and hatred he was supposedly against. What a fucking tragedy.

At the very least, you would think that the body was burned far beyond recognition. Sure was a very fast ID (hell, the fire is still burning).

I don't have any problem with the cops setting the building on fire to drive him out. Seems safer than waiting and possibly having him escape in the dark. I'm sure lots of cops preferred to see him dead instead of captured and I can understand why. That doesn't mean he couldn't have surrendered but he already made it very clear that was not his intent.
