First thing first, you're a beautiful woman, but this is a terrible photo to use for your cover:

You are out of focus and this photo also emphasizes your forehead. Neither seem particularly desirable. Your eyes with the ring light look great, but out of focus. And that font is pixelated, which bothers me.

You're so....

Um. OK....
No.

Looks like you're using a vampire lamp as a hat (since it doesn't show up in the reflection:

You are an incredibly beautiful woman. I can guarantee that if I saw you walking around, I would take note. However, you have a lot of really mediocre photos in your portfolio. I know it's not your fault, since there is usually nothing wrong from the modeling perspective, it's just bad photography.

This might be the best quality photo in your portfolio right now:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130324/08/514f17d64417d.jpg
It's clean and well lit. Unfortunately, you look like a dear in the headlights in it.

I want this sort of pose:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130226/12/512d1cd5ae55d.jpg
From a photographer that doesn't blur your skin.

Or maybe you'll just have to come down to Wisconsin this summer and work with me wink

I was once told that all photographers find some piece of anatomy that they are drawn to in a subject. For me, is that perfect defined jawline:

This is strangely erotic and disconcerting at the same time:

The bones are one thing, but what I think really gets me is the wet matted hair. It just looks a bit creepy to me...

Where I think you truly excel is with your fashion nudes:
18+ You have a great fashion figure, and then you have incredible poses. You in black and white just works.

Not good, purposeful yellow, but like "oh crap, I didn't adjust for the white balance" yellow. And that crop is dreadful.

Just because a photographer asks you to do something stupid, doesn't mean you should say yes.

I really do love this:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110531/20/4de5b6b3ba240.jpg
Now just stop hugging that wall.

This was probably awesome:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110531/21/4de5c065da034.jpg
But those photos are absolutely terrible.

This could be a decent photo:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110512/18/4dcc897e5bb2e.jpg
But I really don't care for the frizzy hair look, and someone appears to have gone at you with a spray gun and won.

Nicely posed, but awkward expression and truly amateurish photo.

Follow what the sign says and "STOP."

I like the smile, and love the wardrobe, but the photography here leaves something to be desired...mostly focus and composition.

Ok! big_smile Where are we going?

You are one of the most beautiful fuller-figured girls I have ever seen. I always hear women talk about have "curves in the right places" and other statements to that effect, but you actually do and you carry it well.

This is incredibly sexy:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120927/14/5064cb5839c2c.jpg
The cheesy stadium lights and jersey don't do much for me, but that's glamour for you.

This is also incredibly sexy:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130113/09/50f2ebebdaa9d.jpg
You're not quite in focus, and it's cropped badly, but neither of those are your fault.

Really not a fan of this one:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120927/10/50648d613483d.jpg
Honestly, the wood blocks out too much of your curves so you just kinda look big...

I almost listed this one:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120927/10/50648d7004cff.jpg
because it is sexy and I love your pose. I just can't stand how blurred out your skin is.

I want to love this one:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120927/10/506493aec57fd.jpg
But your eyes aren't in focus. And that bothers the crap out of me. The photographer had one job to to with a head shot and he screwed it up. Ugh...

Pick a genre, and work on that one.

Here, you have a cheesy head shot with a white background:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130315/21/5143fa441a23a.jpg

Here, you have your best photo because you picked a theme, followed it through to the end, and you pulled it off well:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130125/05/51028a42efd25.jpg
Listed.

You've got a very artistic photo where it looks like someone through up paint on the model:
18+ https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … ea57cd.jpg

Some super cheesy glamour that is with a beautiful model, but it feels too dark, and it's just not that interesting.
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130106/14/50e9f55e8e32c.jpg

And then you have some downright terrible gwc material:
18+ https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 6b92df.jpg

Now which is it that you want to pursue?

Selective coloring has been used to the point where it looks like a cheap gimmick.

Don't do this:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/121130/03/50b891f08e78c.jpg
or
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120411/06/4f858a125acff.jpg
It looks like you smudged purple on her face around her lips... and then blurred the rest of the face trying to get it off.

Gorgeous model:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/111206/16/4edeb76a53121.jpg
Terrible photo. It looks like you used a disposable camera.

Exquisite figure
18+ https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … d40af7.jpg
but you had one job to do, get the model in focus, and she's not. Also, is this honestly the best location you could find? There's a big ugly stump along the side of the road.
And the selective color one isn't any better:
18+ https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 6468e9.jpg

If at any point you ask yourself "should I use this filter to make it look like a drawing?"
18+ https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … d875e8.jpg
The answer back should be "no."

One of your best:
18+ https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … bd1da0.jpg
It's artistic and decently well photographed.

You're making the effort to work with some great models, and that helps, but now you have to get your skill to match theirs.

I love this model:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130219/20/51244f0860de3.jpg
But that awful green light looks terrible. Likewise, you had her in a great location, and barely utilized it except as a backdrop...

I also love Theresa's work:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130402/21/515ba95a26558.jpg
but she looks dead... Your lighting is flat, and I can't help but keep looking at that restroom sign to the left of her head.

Out of focus:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130313/04/51405f9db6c5a.jpg

This photo feels like it's more about the brick wall than the model:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110830/17/4e5d827a02610.jpg

This is my favorite:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120408/18/4f82400c0b628.jpg
It's proof that you actually do have skill. She's a bit out of focus and the composition could be better, but all in all, it's a pretty good photo.

But she looks a bit stoned...

I thought this was Emma Watson at first:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130406/13/516084ac4c887.jpg
I don't know who it is, but I'm pretty sure the crimped hair style went out of fashion in the 90's...

I can understand your rationale for putting several photos on top of each other, but I want you to think about picking one photo from a set and going with that one. For almost all of these, there is a strong photo paired with one or two lesser quality photos. That just makes them all seem to be more on the mediocre side.

I almost like this.
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130311/15/513e54fc3a06d.jpg
I love the location and the framing of the top one, but she's out of focus and her expression sucks. In the second one, she looks terribly confused why she is laying down in the flowers with heels on. She's obviously holding up the flower in her hand and asking "Why am I holding this?"

Love the top photo:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130312/15/513fb1fa31f18.jpg
But, don't like the bottom two.

I really like the setup:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130312/15/513faedb40bc9.jpg
But not a big fan of any of the photos. I mostly like the middle one, but it feels too dark. The other two don't do anything for me.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one:

I almost always try and photograph three outfits in a shoot.

You say this: "I have done work for American Honey and Red Mango frozen yogurt" but where are those photos in your portfolio? Show off your street cred!

You are a very beautiful woman
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130404/10/515db1f082b79.jpg

Now, not only are you out of focus...

but where did your arm go again?

Horrendous editing...

plus a missing arm. Back to the editing, if the photographer doesn't know how to backlight, they shouldn't. The high pass filter doesn't make up for that.

Absolutely stunning...

I don't get it. If she took the photo, why is it in your portfolio? If you took the photo, why do you say it's a self portrait?

This has a good question associated with it:
18  https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 2e9213.jpg
"What's Your Focus" I was going to ask that same question. Honestly, my eye goes to the tag on the back of the shirt. I'm guessing that's not the focus you were aiming for.

Why the gun?
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130118/01/50f90f6bd9af3.jpg
It feels tacked on an unnecessary.

In your profile you say that "I'm a portraitist at heart: I like figuring out what makes people tick, and I like capturing that moment in front of my lens, that moment where you see what makes them that one unique snowflake - no matter what Tyler Durden says." I'm honestly not seeing it. I see a lot of photos with people as subjects, but I'm not seeing what makes them individuals. I would do some soul searching and then also maybe start looking at more photographers' work. You show some talent, but I don't feel like you have quite taken that step from "taking photos" to a being a "photographer." Bring out the life!

This is my favorite in your portfolio:

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130112/20/50f23c37e4858.jpg
Below that, it's trying very hard to be sexy. This difference between your top and bottom just makes it look awkward and forced. It also doesn't help that you're out of focus.

This would be awesome outdoors:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130326/10/5151da7a599a3.jpg
but in front of a white studio wall...it's "meh....."

One job to do....
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130312/15/513fb247bf732.jpg
and you are out of focus. This also feels like a passport photo to me.

This is your best:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130112/20/50f23b225951b.jpg
You have gorgeous eyes, you're showing a connection to the camera, and you look grown up.

If dance is so big for you, why is it not in your portfolio...at all?

Hey there, smoky head.

Usually, it's nice to see the face... Not just the smoke.

Gorgeous.

Don't be afraid to clone out the blemishes in the background though wink

But really over processed...
Get out that original photo and try again, but hold back a little bit.

Hand bras are awkward 90% of the time

This is no exception.

Hate white backgrounds.

She is a very pretty girl wearing some awesome wardrobe, but why on earth is she holding her heel like that? It's like she started falling and reached out for the first thing she could grab....which won't save her.

I absolutely love this:

and so I listed it. Nice work.

I haven't critiqued a MUA in here yet.

I'm not honestly sure what to say.

It's clear that you know what you are doing and I would have no problem with you being on a shoot with me.

I would, however, like to see what you can do that's just artistic and creative. Smokey eyes and natural looks are great and all, but let's see what you can really do!

Currently, there is this one example:

I can't help but feel like it looks like she has a weird skin disease....

Oh man, that's a loaded question. I think a lot.

Here's what I think of your port though...

I think you have some awesome stuff, like this:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 06eec6.jpg

and some mediocre stuff like this:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … f6357c.jpg
Instagram should not be an editing tool.

and you have a couple photos which just aren't very good at all.
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 4919c5.jpg

I would love to see more cute and fun stuff like this from you:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 100b94.jpg
Bunnies!

There was no question mark so it can't be a loaded question, but at least you understood that I wanted to know what you think about my portfolio specifically so I'm glad that I wasn't terribly vague or anything. Yay context.

Your response was actually less https://assets.modelmayhem.com/images/smilies/scary.pngthan I expected. A pleasant surprise. Thanks  so much for the feedback. (:

I think instagram is wonderful but that is clearly not instagrammed as it would be a square if it were. wink I can understand why you wouldn't like that editing style and why it would be offputting to some, but I personally like that aesthetic.

Looks like everyone's hating on the red coat photo, I guess its deletion is overdue annnd I just got rid of it. Thanks for finally making that happen.

More cutesy stuff coming soon, hopefully. Weeee!

I feel like I've looked at this photo before:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130217/09/51210d4fe64da.jpg
but what I see right now is she not only has a glowing aura, but the ground level doesn't stay constant by her right elbow. That makes me think you were blending photos together and missed a spot. Neat idea though.

I couldn't resist commenting on this since it's your avatar.
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130206/17/5113099b3385d.jpg
She looks totally lost and confused, but I think that her trying to look confident. Also wish she didn't have the Snooki poof.

Very pretty girl.

It's a well done photo, but it's also a radical departure from you other work. I question the merits of keeping something like that in there.

I don't know about you...

Finally caught up! with everything before I started critiquing tonight. WOOHOO!!!!

Now it's down to you before I can go sleep.

You're usually great with lighting, but this just feels accidentally overexposed to me:

Whereas this exposure is awesome:

She looks like she is falling over...

Her pale skin on the black rocks really makes her pop. The little bit or red in her feet plays off off the burgundy of her hair. And love how the darkness behind her is matched by the dark water below. Nice work! Listed!

omg....

This is amazing....listed.

Nice work!

And now it's bed time....

Thanks for seeing my age error,  I  changed my age because I will be 17 soon and didnt know it was in more than one place. I have dance pictures but I really dislike them and I dont think they are good enough to put into a portfolio.  I am trying to set up a dance shoot focusing mainly on Flamenco.  What style modeling do you think I should concentrate on?  I have done pretty much only beauty, runway and hairshows so far but I want to try a little bit of everything so I know what style is best for me.

Instagram snapshot?

Usually, people look like this after they have been throwing around powder paint. Those photos are awesome. This just looks like the aftermath...

Which is much less awesome. Especially since it looks like a cellphone snapshot.

Nice and bright, cute smile:

Bad angle, but whatevs

You have been on the site for two years and most of your photos are from one photographer...it's time to branch out.

Thank you!

Will do! Thank you for your support smile

You have a horrible tendency to squint your eyes in photos.
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130129/16/510863a0b88d5.jpg
left: squint
right: open

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110428/21/4dba44e3241c8.jpg
Squint
Super squint

There a huge cloud of pink enveloping you in this photo...
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130130/09/5109569c67905.jpg
But at least your eyes are open.

I'm guessing you're drunk here:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130404/09/515dad04e4dec.jpg
That would explain why you're seeing stars and then leaning against a tree in a party dress.

This is my favorite:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/121028/12/508d84c9cdcfe.jpg
But don't you ever do that with your hand in a photo again.

I swear I did not squint at all in any of the photos you posted. It just seems like it because sometimes my eyes looks really small since chinese girls do have small eyes you know. Sometimes, I use very little eye makeup so my eyes look smaller in some photos than others. Depending on the angle the photo was shot.

Btw, did you really think saying that I look drunk(Which I clearly do not, I dont even drink) in a photo would help me at all?

Thanks for nothing. People like you just want belittle others to stroke your own ego.

Did you actually read any of my critiques before you posted in here? I say what I think. On the very first page I say that I will tell people I think their work is crap if I think it is crap. If I think it is awesome I would say it's awesome.

You are very clearly squinting because I displayed two photos side by side and in one you're squinting, in the other you're not. I'm well aware that Chinese girls have small eyes. My girlfriend of 5 years was Chinese. However, there is still a huge difference between. You squinting and keeping them open.

And yes, you should know that awkwardly leaning up against a tree makes you look drunk. I don't honestly care if you see it that way or not. If I see it, I guarantee other people see it too. That's the whole point of asking someone for a critique, to get someone else's perspective.

I'm sorry that you didn't get the ego stroking you were looking for. If I really wanted to belittle you, I would be downright mean and make assumptions about you and go off of that. But I don't, and so I didn't. I stuck to facts.

Next time, when you ask for someone's honest opinion, keep in mind that you might not like the what they have to say.
