Model Q&A: Brittany Elizabeth

Brittany Elizabeth | Model | Los Angeles, CA

Model: Brittany Elizabeth; Photographer: Kyoung Kim

Where are you from?

I’m from Manhattan, KS, and currently, I’m based out of Southern California.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I wouldn’t say that there is necessarily one person or object that inspired me to be a model. Rather, it is the overall concept that intrigues me. I have always loved fashion and the concept of modeling that yields beautiful pictures/creations.

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling about 9 years ago. I found a photographer on MySpace that lived near me, so I figured I would give it a try!

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

The type of modeling work that I enjoy most is “Beauty” work. For my sexier approach, I enjoy “Lingerie.”

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

My determining factors when trying to find a photographer to shoot with are the quality of work/post-work, previous models and consistent work.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

The model that currently inspires me is Sarina Nowak. Sarina is breaking down the barriers for model stereotypes with her curvier look and sex appeal. She has shot with notable companies, like Forever 21 and even Khloe Kardashian’s jeans brand.

What would be your dream shoot?

My dream shoot would be a makeup campaign that is featured in either Sephora or Ulta!

How important is social media in your success?

Social media has really been transformed into a platform for aspiring models. When it comes to building a portfolio of my own, it seems as though most people or companies will only take you seriously if you have a large following. However, I wouldn’t say that it has had a negative effect on my own experience. I do find it important and I will continue to keep current on all platforms that could potentially elevate my career for the future.

What do you like to do outside of modeling?

Outside of modeling, I have found an interest in doing makeup tutorials on YouTube (yes, this is a plug, lol, why not?). Other than that, I enjoy shopping, going to the beach, Six Flags and anything makeup.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Rather than give advice, I have a few quotes that resonate with me. “When one door closes, another opens” (TAKE ADVANTAGE) “Stick up for yourself, because nobody else will especially in this industry.”

I have to disagree a little with esolesek, I work in production studios which routinely hire models on long term contracts. Not superstar celebrity level modeling but work that is more consistant. Pays less but over time pays well. Its less exciting but steady and we hire hundreds of models of all kinds. Further, I consult for and with a lot of agnecies that do what some might call workhorse production. Whats surprising is just how much moeny can be made in these agencies and studios by people who are competiitent, professional, and know how to work with teams. No diva’s make it in this world. But moslty through reputation, the talent gains steady work that pays very well and can be consitant enough to be a very comfortable career.

For example I work with one west coast retailer whos day rate for all models is over $2500. and the body part models are earning $1500 or more. These men and women are working 3-4 days a week in 4-5 month continuious production, with a few months off and then right back to it. MOst work other agnecies and studios, freelance or persue other things. My point is I have models that youve never heard of, that you will never find on modelmayhem or other sites like this who make $12K-150K a year on that schedule. and as I said we work with hundreds of models doing that all the time.

Beautiful body and face, Fairly masculine in the jaw, and that’s going to restrict your future. Your age is clearly near 30 anyway. That said, you have a versatile look, but I hope you understand there isn’t much paying industry any longer. You’re not going to get a major campaign.
