I've seen some pretty poor concepts in my time but I thought I'd throw it open and ask the question...

What was the worst idea/concept that a photographer has ever pitched you for a shoot, and... did you actually end up shooting it?

Shooting commercial work (ads, catalog, images to be used on products,  website content, etc.) for free.

I'm very open to TF, but not in cases where the end result is going to be used commercially

Slightly off topic but related to Paige's post above.
I had a lady on here wanting me to TF for her online clothing store.
Using my studio, shooting over a dozen llamas, with hundreds of variations, then retouching the entire shoot to her spec's.
Lol the funniest part about it was that she seemed offended when I asked for a minimal rate on the project.
Some people must be on drugs or something.

That's classic! I love that it was supposed to be in your studio and everything. She literally brought nothing to the table!

Shooting girl/girl scenes (tacky ones though) for free.
Some make out session thing on the beach with a muscily dude (not my thing)
A strap on.
Erotica-for free and the guy is clearly a gwc with no experience.

Strap on-yes, yes I did.

I've had some bad ideas before, but luckily realized how bad they were before contacting a model lol

There was one model that contacted me and her only interest was fairies and being turned into one. Seriously. She already had like twelve pictures of her as a fairy so when I suggested we try something else she stopped talking to me. Weirdo.

How could you pass up such an opportunity?

Didn't she tell you what great publicity it would be for you and how you would become a household name who would photograph none but the rich and famous after being allowed the privilege of gracing her on-line clothing store?

I have a lady now wants to do a couple shot with her man in b&w but wants her lips and rose to be bright red. I have not emailed her back with my rates. I will pass.

I had someone call me a mid night wanting to know what it would cost to have a few pictures. When you call at mid night my rate is $1000 a hour day time rate is $300. Then the dumb ass called back at 1 am wanted to know what he got for that. My rate went up to $2000 a hour for stupid tax. Never heard back.lol

Two ideas have been pitched at me that I absolutely would not consider, they both involved the same dress. This one:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/100421/17/4bcf9a26d5dfd_m.jpg
When I purchased the dress at a vintage store it was so tiny it would not zip over the dress form it was hanging on, but fit me perfectly. The woman told me it was late 40's/early 50's. It has a lot of lace (also at the hem which you cannot see) and somewhat of a train.

Concept one was from a photographer who was a problem from moment one. He would not give me any concepts at first. Then mentioned goth and some MUA he knew who then became unavailable because she got addicted to cough syrup or something similar. Then he got mad because I did not respond to his messages on Thanksgiving. Finally, he angrily told me his apparently secret concept: I would be in an old bathtub with water and green apples, wearing my dress and a pair of much too large old, dirty combat boots. I declined, mainly because the way he described the concept came off as very cheesy and because I really would rather not expose that dress to a dirty bathtub or wear something something so pretty with combat boots that were both too large and beat up and dirty. You can do some pretty with ugly concepts and they work, but that just sounded like a mess.

Concept two was more recently and the photographer wanted to do a trash the dress. Obviously I declined that. If it had been a cheap, modern dress I got of Craigslist or something, maybe, but not a vintage dress. I think she had failed to really look at my port or did not realize the dress was vintage, maybe.

The worst idea I was approached to do involved a medical fetish photo session in which a friend of the photographer would be dressed as a doctor, and another female llama wearing only a nurses hat and stockings would play the nurse, while I was to be the patient. It involved some very explicit physical examinations and the doctor getting undressed during the course of the photo session.

At the end, we were all supposed to reverse roles and the other llama and I were to examine the doctor. Even though it was well paid and the photographer had references from another llama who had done a similar photo session with him and the doctor friend I didn't care for the idea.

I've had multiple photographers propose a shoot where they "follow you from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep".  Not as fake/set up shots of someone doing day to day activities, but real documentary style.  None of them ever seem to consider:

How they'll get into my apartment to shoot me waking up.
I don't want images of me without make-up before I've had coffee to exist.
If I'm not doing a shoot, what I do all day is work out, then sit at my computer scheduling more shoots.
There are very few people I would want to spend every single waking minute of my day with.

What's even more bizarre than the idea is multiple photographers suggesting it. oO;

I had a photographer ask me to model for her for tf, and when I asked what the concept would be and what it would be for, she said it would be portrait style shots with various costumes and locations (cowboy, farm, family picture, grad picture ect.) and it would be used to advertise her business. There were a lot of shoots described, none of which would benefit my portfolio, and when I mentioned pay she blocked me...

Shooting stills and video to demonstrate "tantric massage", where the photographer would massage my entire body, including genitals. He also wanted to have a rehearsal first before the cameras started rolling. I ended up reporting him tot he mods I think.

Then another one who wanted me to wear adult diapers and pose with baby toys etc. The photographer also said he likes to cross dress and asked if it would be cool for him to wear a cocktail dress and heels while they shot me. I stopped replying to that one.
Nothing against cross dressers but wearing a cocktail dress and heels to a shoot is just stupid.

I once got paid to shoot in different colors of silk robes, holding plastic roses, in matching colors, up to my face.

It was ... well...

I hope it is ok that I post from the reverse point of view. I've had models (more than a couple) ask me about shooting them and asking if I can be in some of the shots with them (not interested in that at all). When compensation is brought up, they act all indignant.

I had someone contact me through a Craigslist listing that was a pretty basic listing of looking for models.

The guy that contacted me was from Brownville, TX which is as far South as you can get here.

He asked me if I would be willing to both film and photograph him and his fiancée while they were making love in the desert. Sure it sounds simple but I replied telling him that I wasn't really looking to do shots like that. Plus, I didn't believe it to be safe because deep South Texas is full of large rattlesnakes and such. Never mind the border problems that close to Mexico...

I also envisioned getting out in the middle of nowhere, beat over the head, and being tied to a cactus.

When I told a friend about it, he said, "Cool! Live porn shoot!"
*sigh*

I had a guy call for a nude, male shoot.  He went on to explain that in some of the shots he wanted to have an erection and then went on to ask if I could help him with that.  I explained that I much prefer to stay behind the camera.

A fantasy concept of me riding a giant water snake (or dragon?) bending forward so that both the brown and the pink eye are showing. TFP. (WTF?)

Nudes with one of my boobs painted blue. TFP. (WTF?)

Angel wings. TFP.

And the top three concepts I really, really hate photographers pitch to me over and over again, always TFP:

Me paired up with a 5'0, 85-90 lbs model, nude.

The Saudek cellulite monster.

Evil queen, topless. Or evil whatever, really, as long as it's evil and topless.
