I'm looking for some good rooftops in Los Angeles to shoot.  Anyone have any ideas, I've seen some great images with tall signs on the roof that people have been shot at.
Please get back to me on this I would really appreciate it.
Or buildings that have a very urban cityscape background.

try the roof top at the home depot on sunset blvd. in hollywood you have l.a. city skyline to the east, and hollywood to the west.

Interesting suggestion given that it is a parking lot with drivable ramp access. Although the best rooftops are probably going to be ones where you have permission to access the place and the place is full of roofing material and air conditioning ductwork.

On The Kathy Griffin Show she was changing one time on a roof of The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. That had the back side of a sign nearby.

You hit the nail on the head, I've seen a lot of shots taken from that roof top..   Where's the fun in not trying to sneak up there anyways?

More Suggestions from anyone?  Roof tops in Los Angeles and access to them?

The parking lot next to that popular Dim Sum restaurant in Chinatown (sorry the name and street escape me, but it is VERY popular) has an interesting view, but the buildings around it are much shorter. Good for an L.A. Skyline in the background though.

What is your budget?  I believe Greg Gorman rents out the roof of his studio and you can do that w/o renting out the studio. I think it's $1,500 per day though.  At that rate and if you know the right people, you can get some really large and nice homes.

Less of a studio, more of a location. Inquire for rates and availability. Rooftop of 1900's building. Great light and location for photo shoots. Has been used previously for high fashion, print, commercial work as well as films and music videos. Awesome space with expansive views of LA skyline and surrounding old buildings. Think NYC in the middle of LA. Lots of versatility with a rusty, deconstructionist feel... Photos available. Affordable and negotiable rates, email for more information. Power is available for lighting equipment, as well as rental of stands and reflectors. Soft drinks, water, etc. provided for you and crew/models/whoever. Rates vary and are negotiable depending on length and complexity of shoot. USC  Most parking structures have a great view of Downtown and some, if the smog is not too bad, have a view of the Hollywood sign.

Mine.

But it isn't easy to get to.

In the same neighborhood you might want to check out the Rosslyn.
5th and Main.
I don't know what their rates are but it is probably the one you are referring to...lots of vintage signage and great views.

Contact Jessica Vaugn she's the model in my avatar. She has a studio in Downtown with roof access, bikini or fashion, no lingerie or Nakey on rooftop. It's a residential loft.

I used to live at Yucca and Highland in this funky art deco apartment building, there was a huge billboard on Highland that loomed over the place. There's also a parking lot between Yucca and Hollywood Blvd on Cherokee that has a bitchin top floor with all kinds of signs and lights in every direction.

I think Star would be very pissed off if she told you.  I know because I remember Star having a thead about such things last year.

Wow, Awesome shots! Where is this?

And now are the rules of shooting on top of parking facilities? Will you get shut down if you are shooting there without a permit?

You likely will need permission from the property owner.  Otherwise, expect to get kicked out.

Off Irolo, a couple of blocks South of Wilshire. The top floor of that lot was totally empty when I was there.
