The most expensive model on Mayhem..for you?
Consider the following as if you were looking for a model for a personal project, and the costs involved in the shoot would all come out of your own finances: I just looked at a model port and her rates sent me into shock! She had some features that I personally found highly desireable, but not so much so that I could justify paying $100/hr MORE than many signed, highly sought after models on Mayhem, whose posing, emoting, overall portfolio and Credits were off the charts compared to her. No, I'm not challenging anyone's right to ask for whatever they want if they can get it, but it made me consider what I would expect from the model, what would need to be the final result, and what would I get from shooting with them, to justify paying by far, the highest I ever paid for a model. Feb 14 13 12:29 pm Link I can't afford to pay models for personal projects as my overall budget for test shoots rarely rises into double figures... So my limit would have to be $0, sadly  However, for the record, I will say that I believe there are plenty of models here who thoroughly deserve to be earning significantly in excess of $50 or even $100 per hour if they can get it and I have no problem paying models their full rate when they model for one of my tuitions or workshops, for which somebody else is footing the bill. So for someone like me who is a fairly new hobbyist, that is as high as I would go for an experienced model. I've remotely considered $125 and even $150 if I was in a good financial place at the time, but that was when thinking about the upper echelon models that come through at times. I started to wonder what the most expensive models on Mayhem charge, and didn't want to come out and ask that question. Feb 14 13 01:03 pm Link I know a 'former' model who is now a professional (in a non-modeling field). She made a lot of money when she was modeling and is internationally published. I was discussing some art nude ideas with her, for her opinion only.. not trying to hire her. She told me one of the ideas she really liked and would love to do something like that, but she was out of my price range.... $500/hr, 2 hr min. I am sure there are models a lot more expensive than she is and if I had the money to burn, I would have hired her. She is stunningly beautiful. *shrug* That is the highest rate I have been quoted, so far. Daeda1us edit: did a bit of googling and looking... found an MM model who charges $1,000/hr with 2 hr minimum. Wow! But hey.. what the market will bear, right? Feb 14 13 01:16 pm Link Well honestly there are a lot of cost involved in personal projects for me. Locations alone can be hundreds of dollars or more, plus a nominal fee for a ins rider, while others are inexpensive or even free. Then facto in hair, makeup and styling it's getting expensive before I even cast. As for models.... It's hard to say really. If you count the time and money spent testing models for agencies so I can occasionally barrow one it could be considered expensive, but difficult to really track it. If I could pay a model at this point in time, I would say that my highest price would be a half day shoot (3-4 hours) at $300. I do feel that I would be getting a good deal at that price, for some of the exceptional, gorgeous, fine art nude models that are here on MM. I know it's a lame response but, the most I could afford at the time since I'm looking at this as a Wish List type of question. Yes, the random model with a posted rate of $200/hour often makes me shake my head. But there are a handful of models on here that I would gladly pay at least that to photograph if I had the disposable income at the time. I'm afraid to name them because my inbox might fill up quickly lol. But as there was a thread recently about Legendary MM Photographers, there are also legendary MM Models. Marty McBride and Doug Swinskey have worked with a couple models I would gladly pay to photograph. Feb 14 13 01:42 pm Link The most I've ever paid was $50/hour and I imagine it will be some time before I ever pay that rate again. Trade to $30/hour is more typical of what I've paid nude models. I feel as I pay beyond that I see a decreasing return that for me isn't justified. No nudes involved it was just for feet photos for a website did I get booked every week at that rate no but I did got a couple of gigs at that rate and the rate was offered by the photographer not me. I also got paid for a private collection 1k yup you read right $1,000 for 1 hour for some nude photos he was obviously rich and it was just a hobby and a way to burn money apparently. Did I expect to make that much all the time no way but I guess I've got lucky. Feb 14 13 02:56 pm Link I've been shooting just over 12 years now and have never had to pay a model out of my own pockets. Clients have paid for them when it comes to commercial shoots but for personal shoots/trade ones its under minimum to no budget - $100 max for props/materials. That said paid ones must be experienced and comfortable/confident with their posing as need to get the "right shot" in a very short amount of time in most cases. Alternatively the most costly model I've had from a personal shoot would be where 2 Canon speedlites, battery pack and portable power pack died in the one session (water damage on most). Feb 14 13 03:04 pm Link My basic way of hiring a model is state how many hours, what is expected. I will state how much the job pays. I don't go by what the model quotes as their prices. I will cover travel and lodging. But it is from a hotel that I book. Travel expense is determined and is part of the fee. I will also piggy back my shoot onto a client's shoot to so the cost is nothing. Feb 14 13 03:13 pm Link $15-$25 per hour. I do usually work repeatedly with people and work longer hours. The higher glam rates don't make sense to me, but I'm not shooting that kind of content anyway. And many models who wanted to charge more than 100 euro hour they do so because they have an special beauty or body shape but not because they are espetacular models. The best models for my projects are classic dancers and ginasters and I usually pay them no more tham 30 euro per hour. I decided that I only will pay more than 60 euro to a model if she is extremelly good. And only more than 100 if she is a model with certain fame which her face or name can sell my project. Otherwise it is just waist of money, for me. Two of the most beautiful and good models I shot for free. And one of them had have no experience at all, and she was great! Feb 14 13 04:08 pm Link For a personal nude project the my usual rate is $100.00 an our but most I'd want to pay is $125.00 even with a 2 hour minimum. I'd go that high if they have a look I can't get many places or we're shooting somewhere that most models would turn down. One way of controlling cost is to check into meetups in your area that allow you to schedule a private shoot as part of the event. Some models may offer a reduced rate since they often get multiple photographers book private sessions. This might be in addition to whatever they may be paid by the event organizer. Feb 14 13 09:26 pm Link Here in the Seattle area my top rate for a llama that does nude work is $100/hr. However, I rarely end up paying this for various reasons. Also, I rarely hire non-nude llamas, as nude llamas can do what they do. (I will do TF with non-nude llamas, however.) Recently a non-nude MM llama offered to llama for me for $175/hr, 2-hr minimum, and then offered that we might be able to meet somewhere in the middle.  Considering my $50 llamas have more to offer than she does, I didn't even bother to negotiate. As it is, my typical llamaing rate is $50/hr., with a 2-hr minimum. I have a lot of llamas to work through at this rate before I run out of talent and have to pay the higher prices that some llamas seem to be getting. Feb 14 13 09:51 pm Link |
