aaaannnnndddddd.....
Now, THAT is horrible!!! LMAO!!! This was one of my first paying jobs about 4 1/2 yrs ago. It was for a salon catalog. This is the absolute worst from the hair on down!!! LOL!!!
Newer work...
WOW. that was brave and amazing and well...BRIGHT!
I am loving this thread..I'll have to dig up some stuff, too.
i have a new laptop after my desktop decided to die so don't have a lot of my old shots. found this tho, sorry bad quality had to take a picture of a picture on my phone
There aren't any MUAs anywhere near me on model mayhem, so I have to do a lot of my own. I have some awful pictures I deleted from the past. My avatar is my latest MUA wanna be attempt.
Cosmetic Couture wrote: Oddly enough, some of my worst makeup is still in my port because sooooo many people have it on their favorites list. Grrrr.... The pics in the collage were all taken BEFORE I ever went to school or starting doing makeup on anyone except friends & family. (obviously!) Majority of the eyes are mine. I put it in my port when I 1st joined MM because I didn't have enough pics! LOL
Bad makeup....
Today's makeup.... sooooo much more improved.... and natural!
WHAT!? The first one isn't bad!!! Why is everything that's bright, fun, and creative considered bad? Last time i checked being an MUA isn't just about sticking to the natural, neutral look...!

Ooooh! Hahahahaha! THat brings back memories.. Oh dear god.. I've only been doing photoshoots since last year and I was going through the typical fase of bright colours, drama with glitter, rhinesontes, feathers, EVERYTHING so horribly cliched and bad lol
I had this major obsession with butterlies.... Damn, i cringe when i think about it now and its only been less than a year!
I'm more than happy with the clean work i do now lol
I couldn't resist! My first ever photoshoot back in Jan this year -
Yep I had a bit of an obsesion with feathers/butterflyes etc. Always though more make-up was the best way to go! Oh how ive learned my lesson I was so nurveous before that shoot that I actualy forgot most of my brushes!
And something I did a few days ago- Lesson learned!
gotta say that as someone new to the business, this thread is really reassuring. nice to know that all of you awesome creatures had to start somewhere, too! thanks for having the cajones and confidence to share.

LOL It's not bad because it's bright... In fact, I have a lot of bright makeup in my port. It's bad because it's bad application. Too many holes, wrong color choices, bad blending, etc....

Exactly!
Knowing what I know now, my early bad stuff would be way better, given even the same model, photog, and light set up.

LOL Yep! I wish I could go back in time on sooooo many shoots just to fill in the holes, blend a little more, pay attention to the details that don't seem important at the time, but make a HUGE difference in the final pictures. LOL
look at this HORRIBLE attempt at a silvery smokey hooded eyelid!!
::cringes::
done in june 2005
its the same feeling i get as when someone runs their nails on a chalkboard when I look at this make-up I did
this is how it should have looked
done in june 2008
(i'm posting pics from my digital camera cuz well.. the first one wasn't professionally photographed.. (rightly so!!).. so I wanted to put equally crappy photographed images from the newer work)
p.s. i'm SURE that i'll look back to these newer pictures and also cringe

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n313 … img007.jpg Sorry to butt in, but I think this make-up is beautiful, k, not the hair clip, but the make-up, the blending was done really well, the eye shadow on both models I love - sorry, I really like it!!!
me too! i really like the eyes.
go find a worse pic hehe
oh and some ppl in here are a little too hard on themselves! whats that about being your own worst critique....
Awww guys!!!! Thanks for being so brave and posting. Just the other day I was looking at work from when I started which was only a year ago and can't believe how far I've come. (And how far I have to go) A lot of my worst work is still listed on my profile so I won't even bother posting it here and embarrassing myself. But it is such an inspiration to see all you talented MUA's posting your first work. It made me realize that you all didn't just decide to become makeup artists and start producing flawless applications. You all rock: And fine I'll post: This is by far the worst mess of makeup. What was I thinking? And I remember looking at it after I was done and saying "WOW look what I can do." HA!
It was pretty hard for me to choose my worst because they're all pretty bad. So be nice.
I can't find my worst, which was typical messy goth makeup... why cakey face with peach neck, black lipstick, messy eyes... good lord it was pretty terrible.
But here are some "avant garde" pics from about 5-6 y ears ago.
Eeeeew. Those eyebrows!
Drag queen anyone?
Hahahah! Well, I suppose it was ok for the goth bar.
NEWER STUFF
Thankfully my avant garde stuff, got better and I got some beauty looks.
I know I'm seriously necroing a really old thread, but I wanted to echo the sentiment of being grateful for finding out that the MUA deities weren't MUA deities from the very start.
Now, I am at the point in my career where have a lot of really bad stuff that I managed to get in front of a photographer, but this is, in my opinion, the worst.
OK, OK, I'm finally comfortable enough with myself and where I'm at now to share this stuff ...
In school work, before I learned that less is more and before I realized the importance of blending well.
More school work, my failed Charlotte Tilbury Lamb runway inspired look. Haha!
First photoshoot, a newbie artist in the stick things on phase, still haven't learned less is more and blend, blend, blend! A couple of weeks before this, I had done a fashion show where we accented the eyes with feathers and to this day, I still think that was beautiful. It was fun to see walking down the runway, but it didn't have the same wow factor for a photoshoot!
Enjoy! My happy holiday present to you all, I give the gift of LOLing!
Okay, I'm going to play. Second ever photoshoot... here we go...
I had totally forgotten about this but the model still has a shot from this shoot in her port and I stumbled across it recently. Check out those eyebrows... and the rhinestones... and the terrible colour choices... and lips! My god the lips! I have no idea what I was doing or thinking.
More recent... I still have a long way to go though.
