Add me if to the list. I welcome new talent and our other port could use some more models. The other photographer here is a bit more into normal. This is a great idea.

Thanks for the heads up. I went back and bolded eventually shoot and (at least one per month).

I appreciate the clarification, but saying you're expected to shoot with every newbie who contacts you (whether "eventually" or not) is simply not correct, if I understand correctly what you really mean.  Let me clarify further.  Based on what you've said:

If three newbies contact me in January, I'm booked as far as newbies go through March.
If four newbies contact me in February, I'm now booked as far as newbies go through July.
If six newbies contact me in March, I'm now booked as far as newbies go through the following February.

And so on.  I will never, ever catch up unless I shoot more than one per month.  I would just word it this way, which is much simpler and (apparently) expresses what you actually mean:

"As a listed photographer you are expected, each month, to shoot at least one newbie model in your area who contacts you."

Leave out the "every."

First, please don't assume that the total load will fall upon any ONE photographer in a city. Hopefully we will have at least several photographers that a model can contact. Also, the idea here is to give every new model a chance to be photographed by a talented and skilled photographer so as to help even the playing field a little for them.

Also, we want to encourage photographers not to discriminate, shooting only those who they feel may enhance their book. This is not meant to provide you with anything but the opportunity to help someone new.

This is also a new thread, new idea (for me) and will probably see a few revisions so all comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

With this idea blossoming I think it is a good time for teh Mods or whoever runs this amazing site to give us all a "File" one file or hell maybe a couple such as in our MY STUFF stuff that we can file all of our "works/relationships/collaborations" whatever "in Progress" so we do not have to shovel thru our stuff/Mail looking for our serious pending arrangements or shoots ! I think it is the one thing on this site that would be really cool for Airheads left/right/whatever brain it is Artists/photographers like ME who struggle with housekeeping/bookeeping?? Que No???

This is tricky tho as in the fact that you will choose which photographers to be included should there not be SOME level of jurisdiction as to wheather a model is a serious candidate for this project not just someone wanting free grad pics or a biz headshot/whatever LOL!!???? I hate to be a pain in the gift horse but I was just pondering this???

I am still in tho!

You can feel free to add me to the list if you so wish.  I do work with tfcd, and give ALL the edited images I use which is usually much more than 3, usually within two weeks.  Although I do have someone on the list I am waiting to make time for.  I like the networking aspect of it and I think this will help create an atmosphere of trust and familiarity.

You bring up a point that I've just started thinking about myself and I'm sure others have the same question. How do you qualify a model as a newbie? I'd say that if a model approaches you for help and her port looks like it's up to par already, then tell her graciously that she's already in the game and you must reserve your limited time for those who may need it more. You are not obligating yourself to shoot with everyone who contacts you. Follow your intuition here.

I might be interested, but would like to wait for the "rules" to be better clarified. I would not/could not commit to anything except on a month to month basis. If I'm the only one in Denver that commits, I cannot lock myself in to free monthly shoots for a year because 12 models expressed interest. That's asking way too much.

I also don't think this would work unless photogs are ID'd as being ones part of this program (via this site). A thread on this site is not enough to be the entire system for this project. There would have to be a clickable/searchable item added to the site's database where models could only search by these photographers.

I'm always interested in working with new models.  However if you can 'flesh' out some sideboard guidelines for a model/photographer relationship to successfully work, it would be greatly appreciated.

With that said, I would like to be in.  I'm located in southwestern Oregon, and when the snow is not flying too thick, can travel almost any time of the year.

I do hope this idea gets off the ground!  Sounds like a win/win situation for both parties!

I will remove a listed photographer anytime I or the photographer wish it to be so.

As far as this needing to be a site function, I have experience with Tyler in such matters. If this idea flies, Tyler will probably offer to eventually make it a site feature, same as he's promised to do with a thread I authored called "Picture of the Day competition ~ Original edition and 'Model Mayhem's Picture of the Day". Yeah, ok... wink In the meantime we'll have to work with what we've got.

THE LIST will be updated this evening, then again each evening thereafter.

All photographers who've expressed interest will not be listed today, however, if not selected this time around you may submit your name again after 30 days.

If you don't get listed don't despair. Contact models in your area and shoot shoot and shoot some more, then come back and give it another shot.

Hi Craig,

I think that a list of respected local-photographers willing to help novice models gain experience and build their book is a great idea.  As you know, I've done this for years now.  So count me in!

Take care,

I've also decided to add something new to the top of the list. I plan to call it "The Top Drawer". I'll have that up by evening's end as well. smile
