Shooting in the Nude
so i saw the thread titled "The Nude Photographer Network" and i'm just curious as to why some photographers like to shoot in the nude.....is it easier to move around when getting that critical shot? (i.e. clothing being restrictive and often painfull when stretched too far.....tight jeans for example...) and why does there need to be a list of all the photographers who shoot in the nude? i prefer working in clothes.....i try to keep it simple....nothing to tight....but i've never shot a model while in the nude..... thoughts? anybody have their take on it? Mar 13 10 09:33 am Link tehe I like this post. Kudos. I think if I ever take up photography, I might shoot in the nude once or twice. I won't lie; I really think that would be an experience worth having... I don't think I'd let it happen all the time though; that might get me an awkward reputation. But since I'm a pretty girl, I think that might not be looked on in quite the same way as someone else trying it. Mar 13 10 09:37 am Link I generally kick my shoes off in the studio so I won't track up the backgrounds. That is about as far as I go though. Mar 13 10 09:37 am Link I wouldn't know how to shoot without my pockets. It never ceases to amaze me as the variety and amount of gear I can manage to stuff into my cargo short pockets. Light meter, lense caps, lenses, cleaning clothe, reading glasses, batteries, etc. Nope I have to have clothes... www.skipnallphoto.com Mar 13 10 09:38 am Link I knew this one guy, Donnie, that never wore pants when he shot. Mar 13 10 10:07 am Link I do it because I don't like models looking at the camera. Mar 13 10 10:16 am Link ASYLUM - Art Nudes wrote: LOL Nice! Mar 13 10 10:19 am Link I don't see "nude" as anything special. If it's right, we do it. If not, we don't. Either way, we're making art. Why is it such a big deal, anyway? That being said, photogs that only want to shoot in the nude would creep me out. I don't know about you, but whatever I am pointing my camera at (model or not), I am trying to capture something, to make art. That is what gives me my thrill. It never crosses my mind, "Heh, I got her naked... naked, yeah!" and if it did, I'd probably drive over a cliff, because then, yeah, I'd be a GWC too. As for me being naked. I've done it, if the model requests it. If it is a nude shoot and they feel more comfortable with an even playing field, no problem. After all, I am trying to get an expression out of them... so I don't mind if they ask. And yes I remain professional at all times. Except with Aarin (on my port), since she is my wife. We have much fun when we shoot, heh heh Mar 13 10 10:19 am Link On further thought, where would I stick my lenscap? Nooo, not there. Mar 13 10 10:21 am Link Best subject heading, ever. Mar 13 10 10:26 am Link During the winter I like my flannel PJ bottoms, summer I will wear cotton gym shorts, usually kick off my shoes also... I've had models try and get me nude before, lol... Mar 13 10 10:37 am Link Mar 13 10 10:39 am Link Damn literalists. Mar 13 10 10:45 am Link Steve Awesome wrote: I agree. Mar 13 10 11:10 am Link I use mirrors allot. so me working in the nude is out of the question!!;-))) Mar 13 10 11:12 am Link Mark Laubenheimer wrote: Probably the line of thinking where they wouldn't ask a model to do anything they themselves wouldn't do. Mar 13 10 11:17 am Link I tale lots of photographs nude - hot springs and hot tubs require it IMHO. It works just fine. Mar 13 10 11:18 am Link If I shot nude the models would go blind. Mark Laubenheimer wrote: Yes. Mar 13 10 11:25 am Link Well, I first did this when working on a Florida newspaper. I was the new young kid they just hired, and they had the annual "Miss Nude Florida" pageant going on nearby. They gave it to me. Seemed strange with all the senior photographers around, but when I got there I found out why. Back then, to get on the grounds of the nudist camp hosting the pageant - you had to be nude (they change it a few years later for the press.) So, it was either strip or go back empty handed (and lose the new job?) Besides, I sensed the "gotcha!" in the assignment and decided to make lemonade. So I stripped, shot in the nude, met a great young woman my age (great figure) that I dated for several months thereafter (and who left the jaws dropping on the rest of the paper staff), and who insisted on spending every available moment naked. But why did I shoot in the nude? Because I didn't want to lose my job. EDIT: ....but ..... I learned an important lesson - shorten the straps on the cameras. When two F1's with motor drives and 250 exposure backs clap together, you really don't want anything getting caught in between. Mar 13 10 11:41 am Link so i made this thread because the "The Nude Photographer Network" thread title was worded in a way as to make someone think it was about photographers who work while nude. it make me chuckle.... but on a side note....i think how we dress as photographers is important. for me....i were simple stuff....pants and a ringer-tee usually....nothing with any logos on it. my style of photography is simple....simple solid colored shirts and such....so i want to make sure that as the photgrapher i am setting the example. mark (: Mar 13 10 11:50 am Link Wow, times have changed. I started a thread last year about this and half the people didn't believe me and the others thought I was trying to fish for something. Mine was about how a couple of photographers I knew told me they shot in the nude because, they said, it made the model more comfortable. The only time I've been nude on a shoot was when I was shooting with a girlfriend. Never mind about the model, I think I'd be too distracted. Or I'd be afraid I'd end up reflected in jewelry or something! Mar 13 10 12:51 pm Link Never. I hate it when they point & giggle.... Mar 13 10 01:32 pm Link Somewhere on my bf's harddrive is a photo of me, naked, in the studio shooting a model who's not naked. The story was that both the model and me were modeling that day for another photographer, and I was too lazy to get dressed from my modeling before shooting with her.
