My best friend and fellow model Mel Vega (#1207421) has been missing from Houston, TX since June 4, 2010.

The Model Mayhem community has come out in full force to help find her, and I appreciate that more than words can express. If you would like to keep updated please check out the following links:

http://www.MelanieIsMissing.com

on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/wemissmel

There have been previous threads on this subject that were deleted or locked. I am simply offering these links because there have been many hundreds of people from Model Mayhem interested in being kept updated and in helping in whatever way they can.

We are sure this is not the case of a problem with a photographer - while her friends and family appreciate your suggestions, ideas, support, and help, please keep this in mind.

No........just no. There seems to have been enough "wolf" around this case already. hmm

You're gonna screw this option up for people legitimately missing in the future.

Melanie is missing. Legitimately missing.

However *you* feel doesn't change the facts.

The only "wolf" has been people like you, who don't know her, and don't know what is going on, saying that she is just on vacation.

Her friends and family would like to thank the model mayhem community for their support in this rough time, and would like to keep the community up to date as much as they are able to.

Misleading and/or inaccurate information given to the police.

This misleading and/or inaccurate information - that her family desperately hoped was accurate - dried up nearly two weeks ago.

Try googling "Mel Vega Facebook" and a page that is titled "Mel vega is missing" should come up. MM forums appear to shorten/cut off long links.

Why say she was found if she wasn't and it was just a lead?!?!

We had assumed she was safe, why give us false hope?!

Obviously, her family didn't feel at the time it was just a lead.

Unfortunately, this hasn't turned out cut and dry and simple like it does on TV.

Don't you think her family feels the same way?

Imagine someone you love is missing, and the police say "oh, we found her!" Aren't you going to want to trust the police and let everyone know? Aren't you going to be horribly hurt and confused, angry, and sad when the police say "oh, just kidding. we don't know where she is. But she's an adult, so we can't do anything."

This information was released. On model mayhem, the forums were locked and deleted. This is why I provided links to alternate resources. Please go there, as opposed to relying on this site.

Frankly, it's not our responsibility to keep a model mayhem forum updated, especially when it is subject to deletion without input. If you want up to date information, the facebook group is updated regularly by several people.

Either she's still missing and they really don't care that much - oh by the way she was never found we're just going to let you know that 20 days later... or she isn't missing and someone has a sick sense of humor.

There were subsequent threads which were deleted.

The only sick sense of humor I think belongs to people who don't know her or anything about what is going on but think they know that surely she is just taking a little vacation.

Can I re-iterate: Model mayhem forums are really not the best place to share information or to stay updated about this. Please check the facebook group and website for the most up to date information.

Are your quotes a creative interpretation or is that what the police actually said? What's confusing is that only bits and pieces of infomation were posted and we had to wait for more info. which most of us probably didn't see as the thread kept getting buried with other threads.

I guess I should read the other links to get the full story and timelines.

You may feel that way - but many others in this community circulated fliers and contacted the press - this has been extremely helpful. Also, the kind comments and support has been a major help for her family - they don't feel alone. You're entitled to feel however you want - but for other people - we appreciate the fact that you understand that this isn't a joke or a game.

This is a real woman, that has many, many people who care about her deeply, that has been missing for over a month.

Even if the unreliable information that we dug up has some validity, there is no information about her whereabouts that even has the most faintest reliability in over two weeks.

You are not obligated to be concerned. For those who are, her friends and family would like to make information available through non Model Mayhem sources.

Well I can't tell because the facebook link doesn't work.
But the blog you have linked has an entry that says, "Mel is alive" dated Jun 14.

Now how would they know that unless there was some kind of communication or a ransom video (even that isn't proof that she's alive) unless she was found? And if she wasn't found, why post that?

With all due respect, but I am soooooooooooooo going to call BULLSHIT on the above quote purportedly given by the police. Attempting to cast law enforcement officials in a bad light because they haven't done or won't do what you feel they should is only hurting your alleged situation and not helping it.

When this thread first appeared, I really didn't see the relevance of it being on this forum at the time. Now, in light of what has transpired and what many on here have been led to believe, I feel it even moreso. Just my take.

I'd thought Melanie had directly contacted her friend's mother?  I'd read something about that, and even received a comment on my blog post that she was found alive.

Anyway, I've gone and deleted my "she's been found alive" post and will delete the comment that someone left saying she's alive as well.

ETA: I've opted to leave the comment up and have simply deleted my "she's been found" post.  I've added a comment to my original blog post.

And frankly, after being told directly (which is what I perceive a comment on my blog is), and reading that she's been found in a thread here on MM, I ceased to follow the story.  Because, as far as I was concerned, she was found, and whether or not she "explained herself" like someone said she'd do, wasn't really my business.

Yes, it's true that we thought we had solid, irrefutable proof of where she was and that she was OK and that she was coming home. Can you all please just accept that the information did not pan out?

Her family did not have ulterior motives when posting that. They really honest to god thought it was true. Unfortunately - even separate departments of the houston police department do not agree on what is fact.

So we learned our lesson: Houston police don't know what the hell is going on. Stupid us for thinking they did!

You may very well be telling the truth, but the problem is you say "subsequent threads which were deleted", but there were in fact only 2 threads, neither of which were deleted. So when you say things about the police not caring, it seems you may be exaggerating like you did about the "deleted" threads.

And it's confusing because in the past threads you say:

LaRana wrote:

She called my mom last night. But my mom ... I love her to death but she didn't ask the girl any questions and doesn't remember what she said very well.  So she is somewhere and alive. But her car showed up somewhere confirming a strange story that we heard that we were hoping wasn't true.  We thought this was something for the police to handle but they aren't interested.

I will let the community know when we get something that is solid that she is safe and home.  I really can't express the gratitude for the support and actually I kind of want to go through this thread and the other with her so she can see how much support and love she has.

This really means a lot to me and I wish I could send you all gigantic bouquets of flowers and baskets and candy and puppies and bunnies and rockin camera gear.

LaRana wrote:

In a way it goes beyond whether she wants to be found or not.

Having the fliers up really helped we've gotten a couple calls that filled us in - she's been seen around town and she is sorting a few things out with her car before she comes home.

LaRana wrote:

I've noticed something funny.  Once we got a call verifying she is around somewhere, people who don't know her or what's going on started acting like her friends and family are being rude stalkers. I'll be straightforward - we're the ones who know what the story is and at what point 'the best thing to do is leave her alone' so if you're going to talk shit about how her family needs to just chill out over her being god-knows-where-and-maybe-dead-and-certainly-sick for 2 weeks, then can you can suck my ladyballs.

This is how we roll. We're old school southerners and Cubans. We look after our own.  We live in this city, and we know full well what kind of trouble a city like this can cause a girl.

The response from this community has been astounding, overwhelming, and moving... it's made the last two weeks much easier for family to bear knowing that there was a solid wall of support behind us. I'm frankly impressed and touched by the reaction to Mel's disappearance. Me and her friends and family are still trying to get in touch and write back with everyone who wrote us. It's going to take awhile and soon Mel will hopefully be able to personally thank you all too.  I know it will make her feel good to know how many people were pulling for her in a tough time.

And for that I really can't thank you enough.

But Greg, I've got to say, looking for Mel was(is) the right thing to do. If you knew her 'in real life' you would too. She's that fancypants.

So you see how this is confusing?

2 weeks ago you said she has been found, she is sorting things out, she has been seen around, she has talked to your mother, and even we can suck your ladyballs for not believing you.

Now you say it was all false information.

So it seems your mother lied to you when she said she talked to her?

Again, you may very well be telling the truth, but this is getting really convoluted and contradictory.

And if someone has in fact been missing this long, I really doubt the police would not be doing anything about it. Really doubt it.
