I pose nude quite often and I feel that the images that have collaborated on have never been anything other than creative and of quality. I wish there was a way to filter out the cheap, unattractive images from the Male POD 18+ contest that are simply images of a guy showing his penis and save room for those photographers and models that take this work just as seriously as mainstream modeling work.  I bring this up after a near riot of Private messages were sent to my self and a photographer after two of our images did not win the 18+POD compared to two images that nothing more than a snap shot of a greased up penis. Who has thoughts on this.

My thoughts? If you're looking for a quality aesthetic in the Male 18+ POTD contests on MM, you are looking in the wrong place.

On the other hand, if you wanna see some really creative photoshopping, you should occasionally check it out...

The equivalent problem still persists in the female 18+ POTD and I haven't entered an image for over a year as a result.

As I've stated many times the answer is to change the voting system to reflect the views of the majority rather than the small minority who will always vote for the most explicit photo regardless of artistic merit.

However, this has always fallen on deaf ears as MM are apparently not interested in lifting these contests out of the gutter.

What's the answer? Find somewhere else to post your work.

If you want to win on the POTD contest... enter a pic that people wil vote for it... Not that hard to figure out what people like in either the male or female contest...
The regular contest is different...
I have a winning badge on both of them... dispite the fact people think is a popularity contest.. I'm not popular here !!!

Your right. However this is not about the winning as much as it is about the level of taste and ability and aesthetic. One of the images we submitted was by popular response and quote: "The most beautiful image seen in the contest in months!" And had it not included a "Semi" it probably would not have made it as far as it did. I just think that there should be a standard or a separate contest or something. I have zero issue with pornography in fact I think it holds a very strong place in sexual society. However to put images in a contest competing against each other when one obviously has its roots in porn and the other in art is absurd.

Yep, you can only critique someone's work when they ask for it in the critique forum.

Are the MM POTD contests really that big of a deal? Winning an award that is given out every single day isn't a major accomplishment.

Model or photographer of the week is a step up.

Model or photographer of the year might be worth bragging about.

Picture of the day... Not so much.

It's not about the bragging rights of winning:) if I had an image that was being compared to 50 other images of the same quality and artistic foundation/expression I wouldn't care at all who wins. This just about the fact that an image that has no more quality than an image taken of oneself with their pants down conspired to something of substance.

Yeah.....I've been involved in both. A Christian may look at what I do and call it porn. An artist will call it art good or bad. But both can look at porn or an example of ones own optical stimulus and call what it is. A man sitting in an easy chair with an erection or not and his legs wide open and a come hither look on his face in full color is never going to be viewed as art, by anyone unless by chance there is a broad narrative. An image of a women with a camera aimed at her genitals with her face in the background with a perfect French tip in her mouth is never going to be considered art.

Substance other than visual/emotional sexual gratification changes that. When you forget your liking at a penis or that it's even in the photo creates the difference.

So, in a contest where people vote for what they like, it seems many like things hot and horny.

I don't see a problem, just a preference.

I have only one male nude in my portfolio. It does get a lot of views; I'm not sure why it is #1 in views in my portfolio.  I do NOT believe that it is one of those "cheap, unattractive images", but perhaps others may disagree.

But just one worthless opinion.   smile

Hundreds and hundreds of MMers LOSE the contests every single week!!!

Very, very few of them choose to publically whine and carry-on about it.

And you will NEVER win the "It's not art!" discussion...

So your "artistic" images are losing out to images of "poorer quality." Your penis is art but all the other penises have no substance.

Gotcha.

It's a good thing the images aren't 3D, or they'd 'really' feel like they're in the eye of the beholder.

What he said.

If you're just frustrated by the 18+ POTD contest there's a whole "Discussion Thread" full of disgruntled participants who are more than happy to share their various dissatisfactions: https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=547713

If you do see an image you like, check to see the lists it's on. You can find similar images that way...

POD 18+ MM contests show the bread and butter of who makes up this site!!!

greased up bits and tits (as well as HDR) is what "art nudes" are about for I'd say over 80% of the membership here.

Q: Nude Male Models. When does art become cheap porn on MM?

A:  When it's obvious the butt plug is from Walmart.

Uuuuhhhh. I certainly never said penis was a problem! I happen to enjoy them very much;) however, if a photographer wants to show something off that makes him horny.... He should find a different venue. Or if a model wants to show off in a bulgur way, then they should find a different venue.

About the "substance" thing. All penises are full of substance just some happen to display that substance in a more sophisticated way. Don't you think?

I just hate it when one of my photos gets outvoted by a spread-shot taken in someone's basement, with bed sheets as backdrops, and an on-camera flash!

gee, there's a cop out response.  if one can't tell the difference they shouldn't be in the imaging business.  unlike tits and a pussy, a dick being showcased has a line of demarcation.

op, if you are taking pics with your dick hanging out without any purpose beyond your dick hanging out just what is it you are trying to say in your imaging and who are you saying it to?

answering that question should give you the answer you are seeking.  reflect on your motive toward the viewer.

I think he is referring to..... Creepy guy with camera saying, " hey I'm a photographer lets go in my basement and you take off your clothes and spread your legs." And the fact that it comes across in a photo that way other than an image with obvious effort to create something be it great or just o.k. It still says more than a beautifully edited image that still belongs in hustler.
