I dread retouching
But I love beauty and fashion can you do this type of work without retouching. I know big names have people do the retouching for them but until I'm either rich or famous I guess I have to do it. I used to retouch but I feel I waste more time retouching than doing actual shoots and I want to spend more time shooting and less time in front of the computer. I shot these today and I'm feeling to just put them up unretouched.  Any fashion photographers out there that don't like to retouch? I know how to do it I just don't like doing it. I don't like retouching that much but I have paid for retouching before and was disappointed when I discovered I could have done a better job. I know if I kicked it to a high end retouched that they would do a better job but I don't always have the budget. It gets boring and you are right - you spend more time retouching than you do actually shooting. I am trying to learn more about photography right now, I haven't even started with editing. Anything I do ends up looking like a child with scissors, paste and a box of crayons. Feb 14 13 04:20 am Link I'm not sure why someone has to spend a lot of time retouching a photo that looks great out of the camera. Many of my images only need 2-3 minutes of color correction, saturation adjustment, checking for minor blemishes topped off with a bit of sharpening. Often the color is ok as is. I load each image into Photoshop, take a look at it, do the minimum, sharpen it and save. Feb 14 13 04:43 am Link I love retouching other peoples work but hate retouching mine.... I also feel a little more pressured these days to amp up the retouching to that smooth skin look" that many alt photographers are doing. For my mainstream fashion lately, I've been going for a "less retouched and more natural" look to some of the photos. One thing that have helped me immensely is being more selective about the models I shoot. I try to choose those with better complexions and weed out those that are a going to be a nightmare in post Now, if only I could solve the problem of models bugging me every day for the images, lol Feb 14 13 04:55 am Link I was lucky to have a friend who likes retouching and has a degree in graphic design. He retouched for his own port for free most the time. Other than that I keep it very limited. I suck at it so I pretty much have to take the minimalist approach! lol..... Sure I can fix it all afterwards, but the less I do later, the easier it makes it. Sometimes you will take a brilliant image and just know the potential it has for an natural looking edit and be really excited to head back to the office and edit it afterwards.
