Model Q&A: Daisy Von

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?
Where I’m from is a tricky question, by the time I was 4-years old I lived in four different states and five different homes. I’m used to moving all over, so I typically just say I’m from the USA. I am now based in Wichita, Kansas, a hidden gem in the United States, and I travel every month for shoots, and enjoy it very much!
Who or what inspired you to become a model?
I was inspired to be a model by Laura New Myers. I saw her perform and it was unlike any other model I have ever seen, she is an artist from the tip of her toe to the height of her head.
How and when did you start modeling?
I started modeling in 2017. I began by taking boudoir images as a client, and that photographer told me I should model. I had a miserable microbiology job at the time testing blood samples for a hospital and it was very depressing work. Although I love microbiology, I knew I needed to give myself a break, so when I was told I was a natural model I looked into the career and developed my brand from there. Since 2017 I’ve worked for big names in the fashion and freelance world. I’m really proud of the fact I have made a name for myself in such a short time.
What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?
Fine art nude is by far my favorite!
What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?
I ask myself, “What drives their artwork?” If it is a passion for lighting, shadows, and lines, I am all for working with them.
Which models or other artists currently inspire you?
Denisa Strakova blows me away with her modeling work. Greek mythology and artwork depicting Roman-era art inspire a lot of my style. I also like to go to the theater and watch the actresses’ gestures. I copy a lot of their movements during my flow posing and facial expressions
What would be your dream shoot?
On top of an elephant, black and white shot in a studio. I have been working tirelessly to make this happen in an ethical way, I have seen it before and I know it’s possible!
How important is social media in your success?
A medium amount. I purposefully built my client base away from social media platforms and in the last year have just started using it as a way to gain work. I’m realizing the more my social media presence grows the more I have to tend to a “fan base” and that’s not where my heart wants to go. I got into this career to be a serious artist, not a persona online and it disheartens me to see people want me to become a character. I enjoy sharing my ups and downs in life and don’t do a lot of marketing tactics on my social media, so I tend to attract supporters that want to see my life as it is.
What else do you like to do outside of modeling?
I’m involved in volunteer programs for rescue animals. I still keep up with the microbiology world, and I organize social events in my community. You can catch me almost every day I’m not on tour at my local YMCA doing a yoga class/swimming or at my dog park giving my two dogs plenty of exercise. I think it’s really important for people to have work-life balance, with how much traveling models do it can be hard to inject life into our work!
What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?
Read my blog, Model Behavior, for tips and tricks on how to navigate this industry. I purposefully made it as a resource for everything I wish I had when I started.
