Model Q&A: Rachel Ramos

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I’m born and raised in Los Angeles, and I still live here. I travel sometimes for shoots, but not too often, because luckily there’s already a lot of work in LA. But, if the right opportunity presented itself, I would definitely love to travel! I’ve always wanted to go to Miami Swim Week… maybe one day!

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I actually started my journey in the industry as an extra on film and TV sets, originally thinking that I was just going to make a little extra cash while I was in school. But when I was on set, I felt the magic of the entertainment world and I also met some amazing people who told me I should try modeling and acting. One thing led to another, and now I’ve done dozens of commercials, campaign shoots, and booked my first TV co-star role this year on Apple TV’s “The Morning Show.”  I feel like everything truly happens for a reason, and sometimes God just has other plans for you.

How and when did you start modeling?

I never thought I would be a model. I actually wanted to be a TV news reporter and went to school for that. I even got my Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from USC. But, it didn’t really work out. LA is my home and I couldn’t get myself to leave. I also started to realize that life is short and sometimes, you just have to do the things you’ve always wanted to do. That’s when I discovered that it’s actually possible to make modeling and acting a career. But, it wasn’t easy. I work so hard, and now, I do this full-time, but, I’m still far from where I want to be.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I love acting and modeling in commercials the most. I’m kind of a goofy fun outgoing person, and I love getting to smile and laugh on set. I also love working with positive creative people. Plus, I feel so grateful to represent such amazing brands. One of my favorite shoots was working with GrubHub and getting to eat a bunch of yummy food on-camera. I also love being a spokesperson for brands and I’m the official spokesperson for the Ontario Auto Center and had seven commercials that aired on local TV.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

I love working with creative people, it’s definitely one of the amazing perks of the job. I love working with directors and photographers who have positive and uplifting attitudes but can also challenge me and push me to do my absolute best.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I love Selena Gomez and how she uses her platform to make the world a better place. I’ve always admired how humble and kind she is, and how she does a million things, from acting to music, and now she even owns her own cosmetics line. Definitely an inspiring female to look up to!

What would be your dream shoot?

My dream print job would be to shoot for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. My dream commercial job is to shoot a commercial for my most favorite place in the world… Disneyland! And, my dream acting job would be a series regular role on a sitcom.

How important is social media in your success?

It’s honestly semi-important. I used to stress over Instagram, always trying to pump out content and reinvent myself. But now, I’ve just learned to post whenever I feel like it or whenever I feel proud of a project I’ve been a part of. It’s definitely important to have some of your work on there for clients to see, but I would say, don’t stress yourself out to have the most glamorous IG unless a goal of yours is to be an influencer (which there’s nothing wrong with).

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I’m very close with my family and we always go to Disneyland or the beach! I’m a simple gal, I just like to watch movies, bake sweets, and play video games. I also love yoga.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Feel proud and confident about who you are. If you’ve been chosen for something, don’t second guess yourself. You’re meant to be there because the brand or company saw something in you, so don’t doubt your amazing capabilities! And don’t forget to have fun!
