Photographer Spotlight: Niel Galen
Niel Galen | VIP Member | Verified Credits (26)

Niel Galen has been interested in photography and light for as long as he can remember. The arts played an important role in his upbringing, and both his father and brother were avid photographers. As a teenager, he spent a lot of time in his brother’s darkroom and then during college worked as an assistant for a commercial photographer.
Niel was influenced by the work of Adams, Newton, Mapplethorpe, Lang, and Elliot Carter, along with the work of Playboy staff photographers, Pompeo Posar and Arnie Freytag.
His career path took him into lighting design for theatre, dance, opera, and now television and film. Niel began shooting again 15-years ago after picking up a used Olympus OM-1n film camera. He turned to digital about 8-years ago and that’s when he started shooting glamor and fine art nudes with professional models he found on Model Mayhem.
Niel said, “I love to work with models, makeup artists, stylists, and dancers, who inspire and energize me. There are 50+ years of image ideas percolating around my brain to explore.”
