Oh... and I made an assumption on "limited English".  I just was shocked he did not argue the fact that the image was unfairly removed.  So I stand corrected on my assumption of language difficulty.

It still is unfair that it was removed... especially since it was clearly winning the contest.

David Simonson wrote:
I think MM owes the photographer a HUGE apology JoJo for removing a totally different shot!

Look at the two...  Look at the mouth.  It is truly a another shot in the sequence.  And well... that qualifies as a "different shot" and NOT a "crop" of the "same image".

Here are the examples...
1.) The one you say is "the crop"...
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/21696181

2.) The one that got removed...
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/22123933

So are we now saying that "the same shoot but different sequence" can not be submitted in 15 days??  Really?

This photographer got the shaft.  And his english is limited so I am sure that is why he was simply bewildered why his winning image suddenly got removed and did not argue about it.

It was definitely a different image and NOT a crop.  I am shocked that you removed it.  There is no way the subjects mouth was "manipulated" into a different expression.  Sorry, but you guys made a mistake and he was really winning the contest.  That was an unfair ruling (in my lowly opinion of course).

thank you very much

Wow! The two images in your port certainly look both like two different photographs and close enough to be mistaken for one image re-cropped. I haven't checked if they were the same images in the contest and with digital processing I couldn't be absolutely certain that they're not from the same source image.
Nonetheless, it's interesting and seems to address the question of how much difference there needs to be in two images for them to not run afoul of the resubmission rules.
(I wouldn't want the job deciding, those two are close)

I agree with Jeffery on "I would not want the job" either.

But, when it was a potential "winning image" in the lineup (at the top of the "current standings" with a lot of votes on it)... I think I would be very careful to remove it DURING the contest.

If it got removed prior to the contest starting... I can see the mistake.  But when it was on the top winning images of the contest... and it had a lot of votes... I think I would "hope" that the mods would take a careful look before removing it during the contest.

I feel he got gypped.

So do you still stand by your decision of saying this was a "recrop"?

Here are the examples...
1.) The one you say is "the crop"...

2.) The one that got removed...

Here are the two images:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/potd/ent … 29-big.jpg
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/potd/ent … 56-big.jpg
Same model
Same costume
Same makeup
Same shoot
Same lighting

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/potd/ent … 56-big.jpg
was disqualified because it is too similar to the other image and thus falls into the realm of the 15-day rule.

As for the submitter’s command of English or that of any submitter – I speak and write most European languages, several Asian languages and have a passable command of many more languages although my Inuit/Yupik is a little rusty wink

If someone has a problem they are more than welcome to communicate with me in this thread or in CAM using THEIR mother tongue and I will attempt to respond in that language.

Oh... thanks for the explanation.

Might wanna add those "specifics" to the contest rules.  It could help avoid confusion for people submitting.  And since google is a great translation source... it will be readable in any language if they use that too.

Maybe add to your too similar" clarification list...

"SAME ANGLE or POINT OF VIEW"

Since these two were submitted 4 days apart (and one of them won)...

https://www.modelmayhem.com/contests/po … iew/354611

https://www.modelmayhem.com/contests/po … iew/353352

And... just so you know... I am not being a smart-ass.  I think that by having a better, or more clear, definition of what is classified/considered as "same image" would be very helpful to put on the contest rules/faq page.

I know it is all a work-in-progress and this by discussing this stuff is how it can improve.  Thank you for your dedicated patience and job you do.

Actually I made a complaint about this and really happy with mm actions,
in today's contest 3quarters into it..3 sequential photos popped up out of no where to the top few photos with each photo having 8 votes...it was so stupid it was funny.
I not sure how they done it but it must be 3 different account holders submitting those photos then got their 8 people (to start with) to vote...3 almost identical photos next to each other with the same number of votes...out of the blue..they just went straight up over a sudden...now we all know all the winners and I mean ALL have their people who they've been sucking up to for ages or vice versa vote for them..but this is taking it to another level...its just making fun of mm if you ask me!..I like participating and I know I will never win a contest against people like that and I really don't want to..I got 8 votes from people I don't know and it makes me happy that 8 genuine people like my photo...but it made me angry (understandably) when someone is making fun like that..that is too much..so for anyone who doesn't like it...can go where the sun doesn't shine..ok smile

Ummm... I am not sure this is the "same" issue.  But I saw those three images too.  I think it was a case of the model, the makeup artist and the photographer all submitting the same shoot.

What I have been asking about is a totally different deal.

One more thing... if we are talking about the same thing...

All I would like to see is a clear, or better, description... on the MM POD RULES/FAQ page... of what constitutes "the same image" for the 15 day period.  Since there is obviously some list that can be easily written here... why not write it for all to see as part of the "rules".  Then there is "less" chance of lack of understanding the rules.  Why not?

I didn't mean you David specifically..but I scanned through the last page of the forum and I think I read someone complaining of a new rule regarding submitting sequential photos within a certain  period of time..not sure if I mis-read it or not but either way I was just blowing off some steam..I really don't know why I even care!! Now worries.

Sadly with Facebook out there, and all the other senseless wastes of bandwidth on the Internet, MM members use it to stack votes on the POD like this fine example...

Yah, for sh*ts and giggles sometime... just do a google search for...

Facebook: vote for me picture of the day modelmayhem

or

Facebook: vote for me picture of the day modelmayhem.com

You can see a lot of fine examples of these lovely vote-stackers in action.

I think the it is all just a sad commentary of the degradation of ethics and culture.  Pop-culture shows like Survivor and others (that I do not watch) are simply teaching that life is about winning ANY WAY YOU CAN.  Lie, cheat, steal or beg... as long as you can win and have your "Andy Worhol 15 Minutes of fame".  By hook or by crook and facebook, twitter and myspace too.

Well, I agree with you.... if you receive 1-15 "real votes" on the POD... then you are doing okay.  After that... well... to me... revert to my "lie, cheat, steal or beg" comment.  And I suppose it is all a sad commentary of the "democratic voting process" in action too.

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/potd/ent … 56-big.jpg
Same model
Same costume
Same makeup
Same shoot
Same lighting

was disqualified because it is too similar to the other image and thus falls into the realm of the 15-day rule.

I respectfully disagree with these 4 criteria (not that it will matter, rules are rules but...) because:
1-We all know we can take two totally different facial expressions leading to two totally different photographs while satisfying these 4 criteria.
2-Sometimes even a small change in the smile or look in the eyes or expression can give a whole different meaning to the photo. After all, isn't that smirk/smile what makes Mona Lisa unique?

So let's pretend a photo that doesn't follow the contest rules ends up getting the most votes because nobody disqualified it.

Do you let that person win?

since i do not have enough time to read through 58 pages here.. i am going to ask  couple questions that may have already been answered.... smile

1. when submitting to the POTD contest, why can't we just post the "raw link" that already exists on our model mayhem photos in our galleries? wouldn't that be quicker, and it would also make it possible for users to just click on the photo and see it in our gallery...exposure..smile

2. i submitted, and it leaves me a space to type some details about the photo...but that doesn't show up at all once it's in the contest, nor do i see it on anyone's submission....why is that???

thanks for your time smile
