Thanks for editing my text and deleting the referenced comment.  Alhough AG nominated me, what I am NOT a recommended legendary candidate of is the 'over 70 years of age' category.  And as far as YOU getting a recommendation... DUDE... I checked your port... you have NO worries there... wink

My apologies

I thought that was a joke

is age a criteria?

And legendary for what?

These are four of the most inspirational MM photographers in my books...

Although their work isn’t necessarily mainstream as far as commercial and fashion go, I think they still deserve to be recognized. They all have a unique, unforgettable style.

Right. I totally misconstrued a previous comment.

Taste is subjective I suppose. But photographers can be legendary for other things as well :

Anyways

I adore Neal Snape's work as well - in particular his beauty shots

That Stefano guy seems pretty decent...

R. Michael Walker (landscapes)

Renée Jacobs

also, legendary on MM....   Star

I'm going to throw in Porcelain Poet too, she's not well known on here, but some really impressive work in her own style.

Now, damn, it, who is that other guy.....

Again taste is subjective but I would consider Wilde to be a glamour photographer and that genre is not my cup of tea

though I do like some of Marty Mcbride's work.

well, I wasn't aware of Boy of Blue and his creations before this thread, so thanks to whomever posted about him. That is a whole new level of photography and dedication to his craft.

As far as legends go or at least people who's work I admire:

Renée Jacobs
Ken Marcus
Stephen Eastwood
Herman Van Gestel
Mary Duprie (been to her amazing studio in Detroit)
Robert Alvarado
Stefano Brunesci
Philipe
Julian Wilde

there are many more that I am forgetting I am sure.

Don't know about legendary, but a few personal favorites on MM that come to mind, in no particular order, are....

Richard Reinsdorf (RRPIX)
https://www.modelmayhem.com/199627

George Favios
https://www.modelmayhem.com/650384

Gavin O'Neill
https://www.modelmayhem.com/59899

Troy Plota
https://www.modelmayhem.com/511925

Glenn Prasetya
https://www.modelmayhem.com/168909

Richard Dubois
https://www.modelmayhem.com/92180

There are quite a few others, and many more not on MM.

No, it's okay Bro!

We've both been nominated to be (self-promotional) "living legends"! (in our own minds!) LOL! lol

And isn't "self-respect" the most important, after all!

There are many excellent photographers on MM. Imo, these are the cream of the crop.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/list/519407

Ken Marcus is definitely among them, but since some of my portfolio development clients are moms of 14- to 17-year-old girls who want to be models, I'm keeping this account teen-friendly.

Also Jerry Avenaim, but imo his MM profile doesn't show his best work - and the list is of photographers from whose portfolios I believe other photographers can learn a lot.

Death of Youth gets one of my votes:

Go to his site.

Many, many MM girls.

Great photographs, and lots of 'em.

You can skip the philosophy.

But he's a good shooter, and prolific.

I don't think anyone is legendary - as I interpret that word - but in the category of "very, very good and whose presence we are very fortunate to have on these boards" I would list Ken Marcus and Fred Greissing. I'm sure there are a few more.

Of course most of the people mentioned are going to be people who post. Those who don't post and are very, very good are probably unknown to most people, or at least their presence on this site is unknown.

"Legendary =famous, celebrated, famed, renowned, acclaimed, illustrious, esteemed, honored, exalted, venerable, well-known, storied, popular, prominent, distinguished, great, eminent, preeminent, high-profile; lauded."

Depends on where you are in the world????

That's probably to be expected, since this is a forum thread, and most of the people who respond are those who frequent the forums. We are pretty well aware of each other, and we've been in each others' portfolios from time to time.

Since there are something like 750,000 people in this community. I'm sure there are many excellent photographers on MM whose work I've never seen.

Not to take away from their work. But in the words of that great pitcher from the St. Louis Cardinls' "Gas House Gang" teams of the 1930s, "They can't hit it if they can't see it."
