I noticed that a lot of people new to the site are having a hard time finding updated threads on this topic. I figured I would go ahead a start a new thread to help avoid the repeat questions.

Here are the foundations I use....

For women of color: Graftobian & Black Opal
For drier skin: Graftobian & Face Atelier
For oily skin: Revlon Colorstay combination formula & Make up For ever HD
WARNING: Do not use FA on oily skin!

Setting Powders:
For women of color I use Ben Nye Banana powder
For lighter skin I use Ben Nye Neutral setting powder

Other founadtions to look into are Cinema Secrets, MUFE Face & body, Mac Full Coverage & more!

I'll copy & paste from the other post smile

The following is purely MY opinion, what I'M comfortable using and what I know works for ME.

For Film:
I always go for MUFE HD, RCMA or Graftobian.  It really depends on skin type (and sometimes skin color) and what type of camera we'll be shooting with.  Different camera's pick up makeup differently.  I use a regular "your name" transparent oil blotting pressed powder to set (found at Mary's store or yournamecosmetics.com).

I must add that the MUFE HD powder is absolutely TERRIBLE for film.

For Print:
I love Face Atelier but due to it being a dewy foundation, if the model has oily skin, I stay away from it.  It'll pick up sweaty and you'll have to powder A LOT to keep it from being outrageously shiny.  If oily skin is the case I'll reach for the MUFE HD.  If the skin is a bit dryer, then I'll use the FA.

For women of color I love to use Black Opal Stick foundation and pressed powders.  Note that I do not use Black Opal Foundations for film because it picks up ashy.  I use Graftobian or RCMA for women of color in film.

Here's what I wrote on my blog about foundations.

I have some question,
I did work with a lot of MUA.
Some did the eyes color before the foundation, isn't it the wrong way? OR I don't really know that technique?
(I have learned basic make up for the natural look and knew a lot about the base and foundation, but I never went to make up school)..Please acknowledge me..

There is NEVER a wrong "order" of doing things.  Personally I like to do eyes first because if I have any fall out its easy to clean up w/o worrying that I'm going to mess up the concealer/foundation.  It also saves time and product.  Why do concealer/foundation, get eyeshadow fallout, then clean up the mess?  You just spent product and time because now you have to re-apply what you took off.

But why not use those fall out papers that you can just peel off?  Because it cost money and I don't like to spend money unnecessarily esp in this economy.

Guys, I want to order some Cinema Secrets or RCMA. What palettes from CS do you have in your kit? (Jordan, can you tell me? I read your kit list and I saw that you have 6 of them)

Cinema Secrets #3, 5, 7 & 11 give me a very good range of shades.

Yessss! : ) I love them for women of color...I use beautiful bronze on myself and it's the only perfect match I have ever found. The texture and finish is perfect for just about any skin type- it can get oily/shiny so watch out!

Yeah how about telling models what's the best way to find the right color for their face. Many models rely on the artificial light (light bulbs, florescent lights) that are at the store and also test it on their wrist to match the skin tone on thier face - both of which is wrong.

I use the RCMA Shinto Palette.  I don't need the KO.

I've been loving my Smashbox HD Foundations (Thanks Jordan!)

I've done some beauty shoots with it and I love the way it looks!

On a personal note, I've been searching for my entire life for a foundation that blends seamlessly with my skin and the day I tried F1 with the Light Halo Powder I thought I had died and gone to heaven smile Seriously.

Shinto has mostly yellow based but it also has some nice pink based ones that you can mix with the yellow to warm them up.

I have 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 but I find the 5 and the 7 REALLY similar (bought online so i obviously didn't realise this first).

I also love to thin the CS down with the RCMA thinner for a dewier result, then buff the hell out of it. Amazing.

My foundation kit is a joke though, I have wayyy too much:

-RCMA (KO, because it was recommended to me and now I'm angry because i never use it)
-Cinema Secrets (x5)
-Yaby liquid (x4)
-Yaby creams (x2, too yellow/too pink, hardly use them unless i mix but i always feel like i'm using too much (generally i think I'm fairly heavy handed))
-Face Atelier (x6)
-Mac Face and Body (x4 I use this for men)
-L'oreal True Match (x3 just cause I was curious. Good for teens)
-Temptu s/b mini set (x12, which i apply with fingers)
-Kryolan Supracolour (x12 palette)

Personally, i usually find myself going towards my CS most of the time, but I only just bought the FA and couple of the yaby liquids last week, so I haven't had the opportunity to play with them yet).

Would people say that Yaby is good for oily skin?
I Would really like to know which of my foundations will suit certain skin types. 90% of them have silicone in them and I never really was taught what effect silicone has.

Hi there - I was thinking I earlier this week I was wondering what the "content" of each foundation is. That's also be a great resource. ie:

FA: Silicon
Temptu s/b: Silicon
OCC Skin: Waterbased

I'm very aware of not mixing primer/foundation so now I want to know what I can & cannot mix.

I always mix MUFE HD primers with foundations (HD, F&B and Lift) or concealers (especially Full Cover when I need a sheer concealer for under eye area) to thin them and sheer them. Hmmm, they also have a thinner (you can thin all their foundation with it and use them with an airbrush) but I don't have it anymore.

Anyone mind sharing what they think is best for pale skin? I'm usig the MUFE HD & Mac Face & Body but neither of them seem to be working very well.
The base always tends to end up looking blotchy (working on non models, with non perfect skin)

I don't know what blotchy means and my google translate don't give me a clue about this word. tongue Do you mean that the foundation tends to be pink or orange after the application? If yes, you need to use a primer first and be careful at undertones used. HD has a very light shade (I think is 110, not sure, I'll open my kit and look at it) and MAC f&b (the pro line) has a white shade (you can mix that with your C1 or N1 shades to lighten them).

Yeah I have the 110, it just doesn't look great on pale irish skin, while the colour may match their skin its just too white when its done & it seems to accentuate every pore & bump on the skin. I have the Mac white as well but F&B isn't great coverage wise & if they have any tendancy towards oily skin at all its a no go.
using Smashbox photo finish & laura mercier hydrating primers.

Foundations I reach for regularily:

Yaby: Liquid, Cream and Powder...Love Love Love the Powder Foundation I really think it's not given enough credit...just got into the cream and I'm really liking it

Graftobian Cream HD Foundation - Love how creamy it is and how it blends

Face Atelier - Great for Dry and Mature Skin

Other Foundations I have but don't use as much:

MUFE Face & Body
RCMA
Cinema Secrets...like it I just need more Palettes

This would make a great thread! what foundations can be mixed for great results, what they can be cut with, and which ones don't work with silicone primers...
