Not really intended to be especially funny-- and models aren't really the "target audience" here.

That said, by no means are all models like the one depicted here. Still, many photographers can relate that there's an attitiude that exists out there, that photographers should either shoot aspiring models for free-- or pay them.

Tuned out when the "photographer" started to babble on about equipment costs... Silly argument that 99% of the time is made by someone who doesn't understand business

Actually, maybe someone should make one that is funny, non-confrontational and informative that llamas, especially new llamas would watch and learn from.

We have a whole lot of llamas who don't  (or won't) understand the photographer's position and a whole lot of photographers who don't (or won't) understand the llama's position.  A litle video like this that can bridge the gap might, and I emphasize might, help everyone.

And then we have those who say "Maybe somebody ought to . . ." and then do nothing more.  Let me amend my opening statement.  Maybe I ought to get to work and put something useful together.

IMHO as always, of course.

Well and there is this attitude that a photographer should start charging a lot of money once they have a few shoots under their belt and have expensive equipment.

SOMEONE is putting these ideas in a new model's mind.
SOMEONE is jumping through all these hoops and giving them the expectation that all photographers will.

If YOU stop doing it, they will stop assuming every photographer will.

I'm a general offender of this, so I'm a total hypocrite, but then I'm not bitching about their expectations, either.

Can't believe the number of models that have that attitude,  I mean its not like there's any aspiring photographers that expect models to pose for them for free.  No wait its not free the models get out of focus, underexposedoverexposed, horrible PS images out of it so I guess that makes it TFP smile

I think that's a fantastic idea Ray. You certainly have the knowledge and experience to make it happen. All I ask is you consider very thoughtfully the script and directing behind it. Most people here will agree that no one's opinion of right and wrong is universal. Whatever you do will be praised by some and criticized by most. I wish you luck.

My mistake then, I'm used to those being short and funny as to relate the intended message in the most effective manner to the audience and at the same time provide entertainment value. Otherwise we've already seen and heard all that in different forms.

That's a little old. A current internet model would have explained to the professional photographer that he should be paying her. I get that all the time.

Really? I don't see that a lot actually (at least on sites like MM - which is kind of what we're talking about with the 'TF' thing). I more see photographers that lean toward being more interested in the art (the image). While an overwhelming share of beginning models targeting $$$.

I got that same line, just this morning, from a new model who wanted to be paid and also wanted the images.  All you can do is wish such fools the best, and move away as quickly as possible.

Not very long ago, I got the same sort of request.  That new model had the most amusing explanation of why she should be paid:  "But, I'm beautiful..."    Great, and so are the twenty-six models in line behind you.  Have a great career, the door is there.

I suppose if I got into a long discussion and the model still didn't get it, I'd point her to this factually accurate scenario. The script certainly makes all the salient points, so I'm glad it is out there.

I could only get through about 15 seconds of it ... then the "model" spoke.   I already know what it's about.    So I'll tell you a really funny story that is TRUE!!!

A long time ago in a land before digital, I was introduced to a young lady who became my muse for a short time. She was a fun model who would dress up in a nice evening gown, then toss her high heal shoes to the side of home plate and play baseball while in that dress with me shooting it.

I sort of spoiled her by shooting and not charging her, and then I took her out on a few dates too.  She had hinted at wanting more than just friendship, so after a movie date, I told her that I felt that we could be friends, but that would be as far as it would go.  She sighed and then never brought that up again.  Our shoots were much less frequent too!

Then she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting as a career.  After sometime, I get a phone call from her.  She was at her dad's home and wanted me to come meet her "actor" boyfriend whom she was going to marry.  She also wanted to have me shoot their wedding.

So I drive out to her dad's place which is a beautiful big house in a country setting with some acres around it.  I meet the couple and soon after the normal greetings, we sit down at a table.  She brings me a bunch of bridal magazines with some high gloss covers obviously shot in a studio.  Keeping in mind that I have already shot many weddings and she knew this, I said "I'm going to have to rent a studio to be able to get those type of bridal shots ... it's going to cost extra!"

She wigged on me saying "Well I thought you would shoot our wedding for FREE being that we are such good looking actors and this would be good for your portfolio!"  I said "Sorry (her name), no can do!  You find someone else who will shoot you for free."

I walked out of the house ... barely able to contain my laughter ... which I let loose laughing my ass off once I got in the car.  Then I drove away ... never to hear form her again.  Sometimes I wonder?   lol

Seriously, didn't she actually say,  "But, I'm beautiful... and ALL my friends say I should be a model!"  ;-P

I offered a TF to a relatively new one, that contacted me, with a less than stellar port. She stated that she was "published" and that she only works with photogs that can get her published, and that wasn't me after all.

Turned out she was "published" in some sort of online blog calendar/contest thing.

Whatever.

hmm

I have to agree with others that tuned out when the photographer argued that he invested "thousands of dollars" into his gear.  I don't agree with this argument being used but only because it's a cost of business.  There are other arguments that make a great deal more sense to me.

Unfortunately, this is how some exchanges go and will continue to go for as long as the myth of big dollars for unexperienced models continues.

What!!! You actually all great photographers don't give away all of their work for free LMAO, Because I do get all of my expensive camera and studio equipment free, so why shouldn't I give everything away free to those aspiring models who only have Facebook types of photos in their ports NOT I get a big laugh from those models. They have no experience and want to charge for their time.
