Conversation kicked off earlier on Facebook, with a bunch of posting 'then and now' shots of models/actors etc

Criteria?

The BIGGEST fall off in looks, in the shortest possible time, by 'life choices alone'

For me, this MUST be a winner, but what do the MM clan think?

What percentage of those so called "life choices" were made under the influence of drugs and alcohol? 99.9% of them?

For the purposes of this thread, the drugs and alcohol ARE the life choices :-)

Yes, they are life choices that warp your decision making abilities. So you aren't really making true choices any more.

It's always a cheat to use a modelled shoot photo, with probably all the retouching, posing and lighting that goes with that, then compare it to a rough casual shot.

This.

People who are sober/clean can have the same problem.

She appears to have been heavily into tanning, and also possibly had some cosmetic procedures done to her face that weren't...um, good.

Also, how do you know that is not an altered scandal sheet photo, dressed up to make her look worse than she really does?

Scandal mags totally screw around with people's faces to make them look worse.

I always love these "let's kick them when they're down" threads!

Ha HA!!!  Let's point and laugh at how far they've fallen.  It's fun!

The after picture looks low resolution and altered to make her look worse than she actually is.  I laugh at all those before and after shots because everyone has their bad days!  I can look like an old ugly fart or I can clean up rather nicely.  Most anyone can with make up, surgery and photo shop.  wink

It is possible to recover some from alcoholism, drug addiction, but not so much damage done by the sun.  That's why I'm as white as a ghost .. I'm really a vampire!  tongue

That's what I thought too.

I've seen other recent photos of her, and she isn't *that* bad looking. She's obviously got some sun damage going on, but I think that photo has been doctored.

Yeah, I just added a little more .. sun damage has to be the worst ... I know of no true way to reverse that.  Smoking doesn't help much either.

I have some minor sun damage, around my upper cheeks, and the corners of my eyes. I used to think it was really bad, until I started to get professional skin care during the past year. The aesthetician actually commented that the little bit of sun damage I have is NOTHING compared to what's "normal" for a 32 year old woman.

She just said that most people she saw smoked for years, and used tanning beds, and their skin was aged beyond repair by 30, and that is just "normal." If she gets someone who just goes outdoors a lot, and has a few freckles here and there, never smoked cigarettes, their skin pretty remarkable to her.

That's probably a "caught in the moment" photo or a modified photo.  Noses don't change shape like that...I mean, they can from abuse, but they don't go back to normal.  I do not believe she's had any facial surgery.

My first inclination to this post was that I didn't feel right making fun of her, or any other celeb for that matter.

If her so called decline in looks was due to substance use of any kind, legal or not, then that's sad, but maybe she's happy? A lot of people just don't age well.

Agree.
She doesn't look that bad from other pics recently. I think the press like to attack people by using bad photos and we can all take a bad one sometimes. And they are probably not above doctoring them. Especially sometimes if overworked, stressed, ill etc. one can look rough so it's too easy to lay it at self abuse.

As for alcohol drugs cigarettes etc I'll remind people Kate Moss is forty and still getting plenty of modelling work.

This is such a shame... I read an article about some scientific studies that were done suggesting that people who look younger/older than their actual age may actually BE younger/older biologically. Many of the people who've been very clean-living can look young for a much longer period than others because their body has not physically aged as much and the same vice versa.
And yes Kate Moss is still getting modelling work, but that's because of her celebrity and notoriety, not because she still looks young.

Kate Moss used to model for an artist near where I did. We used the same bar too, and so I often would see her quite close up. She'd have been 38 last time I saw her. You wouldn't have put her above 28, and she is still modelling because she has a look which appeals to a young female target audience and she's good at actually modelling, and above all she says "London".
I've also been around models in London for fourteen years of all genres. I do note that Sun can age the skin badly. But there are models with a rock n roll lifestyle who still do the job and don't have celeb status, and haven't aged. But yes they stay out of the sun despite the smoking drinking and partying; and also they keep fit. I know four approaching forty you wouldn't think were over mid twenties. They are all pale skinned, all smoke, all drink and party all night, and all work out. They were all here too, though one has recently departed due to the decline in MM model reputation. All are superb versatile models, two agency.

Actually, any photographer worth his salt should be able to see past what is clearly a bad photograph of her.  Camera mounted single flash, grabbed shot, etc., etc., etc., guaranteed to be a rubbish pic, and it is.  Probably intended to be, too.

agreed!
Anyone can take a bad picture it doesn't mean their looks are fading. Also it isn't fair to expect a 28 year old to look the same way she did when she was 16.

She looks like Donatella Versace in the candid photo!  Not good.

And yes, I do feel sorry for her - she was a stunning girl and obviously has a fucked up family life and many problems.
I hope she can get better.

Gosh, I was a sun worshiping smoker for most all my 20's and into my 30's. Ugh, I'd work my midnight shift, smoke a bunch of Marlboros or pall malls then slather up the oil and go sleep at the beach.

Its starting to get me now. Duoy on me!

I agree that it isn't really nice to kick someone when they are down and also that the after photo is intended to look really bad.
