Some of you will recall discussions about reputation systems. The open beta of ShootNotes.com is starting. Account activations will be online after the weekend, but if anyone wants to get an account and get your badge up now, please feel free.

Any problems, please drop me a private email. Bug reports and/or suggestions are more than welcome while I finalize the activation system and perform final tests on the editors.

I'm going to presume that everything is self-explanatory. Please let me know if it's not, so I can be more verbose in the instructions.

A reputation system is the core of ShootNotes, but I've actually started working on a ton of new features that have been requested.

It's free. I'll probably put Google ads on there at some point to make it help pay for itself, but not now.

OK.....so I pasted my badge last night after confirming my Email Address.
Today I go back and hit "activate account"
I enter my MM number and "activate"  Nothing has changed.
Did I miss a step in the FAQ?

No, what you missed was when, after hitting "activate," it told you that the activation code has been stored in the database, and actual account activations will happen after the weekend.

I'm finishing the activation code even as we speak. But since everything else is done, I figured I'd let people test out getting an account and placing the badge, to ensure it works and makes sense.

OK....I went back to the FAQ to see if I missed a step and didnt see anything.
Thought Id check with you here.
Thanks.

That's the fun of a beta - opening it when it's 90% done to flush out procedural bugs while finishing the last few steps!

Click on the "Main and Display Badges" menu item once you're logged-in.

I might do that - or, at least, have the activation link take you to it. That might be more clear.

Signed up, badge is up, but where I am there are only two models I have worked with recently who are also on MM. This might take a while.

That's the lovely thing about networks. If they have a high reputation, that will look good on you. I'm still refining the algorithm, but there you go.

This is an experiment, of course. I already see two attempts to game the system, both of which I'd anticipated. :-)

I need to remember to e-mail you about a parameter to add, and I have about 25 MM members I need to add to my "worked with" database, then encourage all of them to sign up  smile

Do it soon (the email). I just got validation working properly, and so all I need to do now is clean up the "worked with" and "vouch for" data entry pages and phase one is done.

I'm also considering paying my attorney for a patent search on the validation system I created. Dip me in chocolate and call me a tootsie roll, but I'm finding that there doesn't seem to be any prior art on how I put it together. Go figure!

I'm looking at tonight to allow full activation, Tuesday at the latest. Signups uncovered a number of bugs (as expected) that are all being resolved now before the next step.

Well, I'm ready to move to the next phase of testing, but as of earlier today, Tyler has turned off non-member viewing of profiles, so I'm blocked.

If non-members can't see profiles, ShootNotes can't validate that anyone is who they say they are.

So I'm ready to go, but on hold until he turns it back on.

I signed up, but haven't put anything on my page yet.

One question: Would there be any way (maybe at a later date, after the basics are done) to get a smaller version of the badge?  Particularly something shorter height-wise?  I feel like it's just so big... and there are a lot of people who complain about mass amounts of images in profiles... yea.

Just a suggestion smile  Other than that, this will be cool smile And I like the way it looks so far smile  Nice job :holds up a glass: Cheers to you, Mr. King! wink

Edit: Ok, actually, I went to activate (that wasn't an option when I signed up originally), entered my MM#, and it's saying "Sorry, Model or Photographer Only". sad  I are Model.

I've validated two accounts, so I can test the model/photographer/fake out attempts. Waiting for the next step - for the activation to work.

You could always set shoot notes up with an account then tunnel through...

I could. But that would mean three round trips to MM and that's not being a nice citizen. The site is overloaded as it is, so my badge checks were being done using a very lightweight lookup.

Hopefully Tyler will re-enable this functionality soon.

bummer..

But I went to the site and did a lookup of my MM number and it said I wasnt a member.

"Sorry, that user is not a member of ShootNotes."
