There are many photographers, here on MM, who do not credit their models.  This makes it difficult for other photographers to track down a model they might want to work with.   Maybe that's the whole point of not providing a credit!

I'd like to hear comments from both models and photographers about listing--or NOT listing--model credits on a photo.

It's your forum!

I always do, but I find that I also hardly get credit from the model, witch I'd love to get, since the models get all the views...

Yes, they should.  Why not?

However, the photo load app could be improved to make this easier to do.

If you like to be credited when/if they post one of your images on their port, you should reciprocate and do the exact same smile

A number of models I've worked with are not on MM, and there are even a couple who don't want to be identified in the caption. Otherwise I credit every MM model I work with. And I hope to be credited on the model's site as well.

I will always credit any member involved in my images. This site is for networking, not crediting is selfish and stupid, unless someone asks not to be credited, of course.

Half the models I shoot don't have MM portfolios to credit to.  (There are sources of models other than MM believe it or not) Some models for reasons of their own don't want to be credited.

I think it's nice to credit models, but for the model's sake when she wants that.  I certainly don't feel other photographers have an obligation to point me towards models.  That's what the browse feature, availability notices and casting call features are for.

Sounds right to me EXCEPT:
When the model prefers not to be credited.  (Not unusual when the models does
something outside of her preferred genre, has an exclusive agency
   arrangement, etc.)
When the model doesn't have an MM account
When the model leaves MM

IMHO, as always.

some models aren't on mayhem or are no longer on mayhem.

i recently upgraded to premium and uploaded like 50 images and haven't taken the time yet to go back and do all the credits.

if you really want to know about a model maybe message the photographer?

And that just might be the point.

1. Models may not want to be tracked down by MM photographers.
2. Photographer might not want other photographers tracking down "their" models.
3. Model may not be a MM member.
4. Photographer may be lazy or technically incompetent to create a credit.

I'll admit it's in my cynical nature to assume #2 when I see no models in a an entire portfolio credited. But I've been proven wrong on occasion (but just on occasion).

the only time I don't credit an MM model is.....

If she asks me not to.

Or, if her profile says she does not do nudes, but does nudes with me.

Unless the model specifically asks *not* to be credited,  it should be done -

and don't forget the MUAs, hair stylists, wardrobe stylists, designers etc.

"hoarding" models or resources is selfish, and if I were a model or production team person, I would watch for this.  It's a networking site, everyone looking for expanding opportunities.

EVERYONE (photographers, models, stylists, makeup artists, hairstylists) on MM should credit EVERYONE that woorked on a shoot, unless specifically requested not to by that person.

maybe the model isn't on MM
maybe the model didn't want to be credited

if the model is on MM and if she doesn't mind being credited, it's certainly appreciated if the photographer credits. But SHOULD they? no.

My models are signed agency talents, and choose not to participate on MM, many agencies would frown on their models posting their work on free, public, glamour modeling sites, as they feel it would deminish the value of their "brand."

I do include their mames with the images.

The MAJORITY of models I work are NOT on MM and those who are, get credit when required.

You're probably better off sourcing your own talent from as many venues as possible.

This applies to anyone here, I believe...

I have only had a case of non-credits once and I do feel that it may hinder, as I had somene come to me inquiring to collaborate, however they mentioned in passing it was difficult to find me (took this person 3 days).
Not that I am an expert,  but here is some friendly advice...

What if you found the photographer/model/stylist/designer page, however without credit, your going through friends lists and doing unessassary research for said artist you really want to work with.

Even if you don't know their MM #, or nickname, or they don't have one...give credit where it is due.

I have credited assistants as well, because you never know when that assistant becomes the photographer/designer/stylist/model themselves.

Just my thoughts. Hope this helps smile

That covers most of it. There are also those models who are happy to do work with me of types that they have no interest in marketing or doing on an ongoing basis and additionally those who do not wish to be credited on the internet but appreciate mentions at shows or in print.

For whatever reason, some do, some don't. What does it really matter how someone else decides to work?

You just have to have that one model? According to a search, there are 321,000 other models on MM to work with. I would think at least 2-3 of them would fit your parameters. wink

I think communication should be a big part of it. I tell the photographers that I work with where the pictures will be posted, and they always receive credit. Never ran into a situation where some one would rather remain anonymous. If they asked me not to, I would always honor their request..but don't think it should be mandatory.

I credit everyone for purely selfish reasons, because I think it makes me look more bad-ass the more people I can credit, especially all on one photo.

In all seriousness, I don't really care what other people do.

Not all models are members here.   That's a reason I don't credit them.
Others may not want credits with a certain photographer.
Several reasons why.

For the most part if their isn't a linked credit for the model I assume they aren't on MM, or they have asked not to be credited.

I always credit every MM model that I work with. If there's no credit, the model is not on MM.

MM is not the most stable of websites. It works when its up but Lord only knows if it'll stay that way.

Reasons why it people may not credit the other (in no particular order):

1- a glitch in the site lost them (this has happened to me more times than I can count)
2- a lag in uploading & people may have quit the site for whatever reasons or moved or changed their stagename making it extremely difficult to find or search (I've had this happen a bunch of times)
3- they might not even be on MM (at least 1/2 of my port I initially found on other sites)
4- might not want to be credited as the model particularly if their day-job is in a conservatively sensitive job occupation (like legal or education)
5- might do the content they did specifically for you because the two of you may have a good working relationship but not want to do it for others
6- the model after shooting might have fallen off the face of the earth (I've had that happen a bunch of times)

Possible solutions particularly if people:

A- use MM's "list" feature if people aren't crediting or forgot to do it or whatever
B- message the other party asking them to forward your contact info to the other party & hope for the best
- suck it up, deal w/ it, & move on.

Then when they feel they struck gold they'll come back and ask to shoot TFP. But you gotta love em'.

But I do have a couple of models that ask me not to credit the nudes I shoot with them. Especially when they say they don't shoot nudes with any body else.

It is interesting that, so far, the replies to this thread are 4 to 1 photographers to models.

Maybe it is just co-incidence, but it fits with my impression that photographers are more aware than models of the etiquette with crediting.

Many of us have a few of these models, which is sad in a way because it can mean that they believe that being heart-stoppingly beautiful can cause problems for them.  Even worse, they may be right!
