Pirelli Calendar 2013 - Steve McCurry...opinions?
Just saw this video with BTS footage, interviews, and a glimpse of the final images, on nikonrumors. Shot by the legendary Steve McCurry. http://youtu.be/dsTLcbNNlI8 thoughts? (i'll be back to share mine when i've properly gathered them) Nov 27 12 06:43 pm Link I wanna go to rio. Nov 27 12 06:51 pm Link Dear Pirelli, Dear Steve, I wasn't inspired. Maybe next time. Interesting use of litepanels though. Nov 27 12 06:53 pm Link Hey even Coke tried to make New Coke once, this is just as bad and nearly as big a mistake... Nov 27 12 07:09 pm Link The images are simply beautiful. Such are contrast with the plastic photoshop look of so much fashion today. Nov 27 12 07:15 pm Link Really love a lot of Steve's work, shot probably the most beautiful, haunting and iconic portrait of modern time… But this is the pirelli calendar…its just not his genre, kind of thinking he and pirelli will look back on this as a mistake. In his possible defence though, does anyone know if anyone has ever said no to shooting the calendar? Nov 27 12 07:22 pm Link It doesn't really fit in with previous calendars they've put out, but I love what hes done (assuming some the images at the end are part of whats going in). Simple, beautiful ! Nov 27 12 07:25 pm Link Beautiful images. He captured their beauty without showing flesh, which could expand Pirelli's customer base, but most importantly he stayed true to himself. No sell-out here. Nov 27 12 07:30 pm Link LOVE IT!! Forget their "style" in the past. If you just take the photos on their own merit, just amazing work! Nov 27 12 07:35 pm Link E-motion Photography wrote: True, I have always found his work amazing but, it isn't Pirelli. At the end of the day they are selling a brand and "style" that is part of it. Seams like a marketing gamble, the kind that can only be big; one way or the other. Nov 27 12 07:41 pm Link Definitely a radical departure from the normal Pirelli Style. However the photographs are quite exceptional in their own right and are incredibly well done. He really captured the subtle nuances of these women. Nov 27 12 07:42 pm Link Love the images Nov 27 12 07:45 pm Link D M E C K E R T wrote: where is the T and A? Nov 27 12 07:46 pm Link Is it just me but after seeing the start of the video I expected better results. The models and location looked great but the photos at the end where meh. Am I the only one that thinks that grabbing screen shots of that video would yield better photos? How much do you think they would charge to let me shoot Isabeli Fontana? Wowser. But the finished shots are awful, and more plastic and fake (HDR UGH!) than any decent fashion image I've laid eyes in the past few years. Nov 27 12 10:47 pm Link When I get bored I tell the models to take their clothes off, apparently when Pirelli's art director gets bored he tells the models to put their clothes on! And they send some guy from Nat Geo to shoot the calendar? Railroad tracks? Really? Maybe next year they'll hire some great wedding photographer. How about senior portraits, when do they get their shot? Please. Fire the entire creative team, the lazy farts have spent too much time drinking wine and smoking weed. Nov 28 12 06:14 am Link Why break tradition ? Without looking and no disrespect to Steve, but I am just not interested to see this calendar. I suppose their shock value has all but been used up, so this is their last straw. Nov 28 12 06:21 am Link Nov 28 12 06:24 am Link Creative approach and beyond excellent in the final product. This is what the creative world gets paid for ---- Well done by all ---I was impressed and I see others here are just jealous LOL Nov 28 12 06:27 am Link -JAY- wrote: I've been there. Nov 28 12 06:57 am Link http://www.pirellical.com/2013/ Better to have thread for professional photographers which know what is top notch work and which know what are top level files : Would you use any of these files in your portfolio? Regards to all ! Nov 28 12 07:08 am Link Does he have a strange shooting style or was he just ineffectively trying to hide the camera's brand name? Looks like he used both Canon and Nikon and I think maybe Hasselblad. I think it's a nice change... probably fuelled by economics. Nov 28 12 07:24 am Link steve is amazing, regardless of this calendar. Nov 28 12 07:36 am Link I like the shots, maybe not for this calendar though. But I also don't think it's a bad thing to change things up occasionally, though I'm sure a few tire store employees will disagree with me. Nov 28 12 07:38 am Link Great images Total fail for Pirelli Calendar material Sonia Braga ??? WTF Nov 28 12 07:49 am Link |
