At first  I really applauded this post, but now I think... there are a billion and one boobie posts on all the other forums that, well frankly- if you wanted look up "boobies" thats your perogative.
When I first discovered this forum (which  I think is the best MUA/stylist forum [because you can SEE who's advice you are taking] I read through every single entry. Maybe we should just ignore people who repost the same questions instead of making these nifty reposts via links.
Sometimes it needs to be a new forum. Sometimes the answers have evolved.
Why shouldn't we have the same amount of space to talk about eyeshadows (or ignore posts about eyeshdows) as the others here have to talk about boobies?????

This is just a resource post and I do my best to update it, but I only have a few other people who help me. Nobody is saying you can't make a post about eyeshadows or anybody else for that matter. But if it is already a topic that has been discussed they will more than likely just get redirected to the FAQs.

Noone states here or in the rules that you cannot ask a question that is valid.
Simply put.
We love the mayhem, but chaos is bad.

Remember this thread is not about a discussion of why this is here.
Even Tyler thought this was cool.
It takes a lot to wake him up.

I am going to lock this down for a day or two.

Start a topic in site related if you hate the idea.
But simply put, I bet on you losing the arguement.

Need to make a minor list that expands on the search for airbrush for some threads do not have the titles of airbrush but are on the topic.

This is a new one.
Question about p.s.i.

If you have anything to add then send me a note or to rachelrose and it can be added here.  Make a minor list or if we are missing something.

If might be good to fill in all the posts about stickies(which is done now)
with information.

You may use my private MM mail and not the cam for this.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck... it probably is a scam

SCAMS:
so tyically the rule is, if it sounds too good to be true.. it probably is. I think it is very important for the MUAs, Stylists and Hair Stylists out there to know that the popular scams can be directly targeted at us as well: Some of the most popular ones are the following. The BIG INDICATOR of these is that they ask for personal information right off the bat AND they will send you a money order for MUCH more than the inflated price that they have offered you and request that you keep your portion and send the remaining back.

Fashion Show: Usually by a designer that you have never heard of, who is showing in NY, but not during fashoin week. Wedding scam, pay you by money order and some tragic event will happen on the day of the wedding and they will want a refund.

Here are some sample letters:

THE WEDDING SCAM:
Hello Dear,

How are you doing today???

I am Sandra Janet an architect by profession . Am about to tie my Knot with my hearthrob Roy a financial analyst by profession.
Am seeking a professional make -up artist who can add a special touch to make me a Damsel for my D-Day, at my wedding day coming on soon, the location shall be in Glasgow,Scotland in UK.on 28th/10/06 (by 10:00) and The time period shall be for 4 hours. My skin colour is afro / carribean , so as to give you clue on the make up that will suit me.
However there is an arrangement for accomodation, in a very suitable atmosphere. Please kindly let us know if you will be available and also we will like to know the cost of the Make -Up.
Also as we shall be responsible for all the expenses like airflight, hotel etc.Kindly get back to me with the total cost, inorder to tell my wedding planner so as to arrange the payment to book for D-Day..

Presently am away on holiday to bahamas with my fiancee, and will be coming back on september
We can pay by certified cashier check or money order, whichever way you want it.
Kindly get back to us.

Cheers,

Sandra ....

Internet Fraud Advisory!!!

Usually, anything that is not adressed to you personally, is from a country other than your own, sounds too good to be true is mass emailed is probably a scam.

Suit/Dress: Women's sizes are insane and vary greatly. There is no stanardized sizing. Men's suits are sized by chest circumferance (example 40) and sleeve length (short, regular or long). I don't know the numbers for dertmining that bit, though.

Shirt/Blouse:  For men, it's by neck size. For women, it's anybody's guess.

Neck: Measure around your neck.

Sleeve: See above with the I dunno

Pants:  For menswear (and some women's pants), it's inches around waist and legnth of inseam (crotch to floor).

Inseam: Crotch to floor. Inches.

Bust: This one is fun. For bust size, measure around the fullest part of the bust. To determine bra size, measure directly below the breast and add 5 inches for the band size.  Cup size is determined by subtracting the underbust measurement from the measurement around the fullest part of the bust OR measuring under the armpits and sutracting the number from the fullest part of the bust measurement.

Waist: smallest point of the torso

Hips: widest point around the tush

Hat: I know you measure the circumference of the head and divide by something freaky, but I forget the formula.

You left out shoe size and glove size.

Wonderful idea ...!

I really like the idea, the thread and all the valuable information that's compiled here so far. This is going to help many other people, as it's helping me, to find the info in a methodical way.

BUT, please do not forget that we live in a dynamic world where new ideas, products & techniques are surfacing on a regular basis ... I think MM users should not shy away from posting new threads on a subject that may have already been discussed in other threads.

Forums are wonderful educational tools, discussing something on a forum is a unique, stimulating form of learning where people interact and exchange ideas in real time pretty much like a seminar class . When you post a new thread or reply to one, you usually have to organize your thoughts and formulate a question or answer. You read and write, you absorb and learn and often new ideas pop up in your head that may not have occurred to you before.

Videos, books and static web pages (including OLD threads) are very helpful but , at best, they are like a lecture class as opposed to a seminar that is spontaneous and a lot more stimulating.

This thread is only two pages so far but the huge "Redundant" poster has already been posted twice in it. To someone who visits this forum on a daily basis, there are a lot of repetitive threads marching one after another.

But again, let's not forget the dynamic, spontaneous interaction that happens on a  new thread. It's a great educational experience and I think users should be encouraged to post new threads or look at an old subject from a new, fresh POV.

Don't forget the Marketing 101 lesson of hiring a HOT (meaning of-the-moment or up-and-coming) MUA for a day. Get some great tips and especially the creative talks. Treat it like the next step up in your portfolio.

Money talks, so make sure you know any new partnership is beneficial to both financially somewhere in the process.

1. Hire them for a day or two to sharpen what you've learned. They'll love you.

2. Partner up with a wardrobe stylist plan on working like a maniac on establishing contact with magazines. Mean what you say.

3. Provide images up to publishing standards, work with a few MUAs and Wardrobe Stylists on building each others' portfolios and watch out for the results.

4. Tipping or giving Holiday gifts to your collaborators gets you a bit of affection, too. Every collaborator is a human, you know?

The easiest way to figure who is best for you is to scan portfolios and see how much talent they exercise in every image they have in their portfolio.

Attitude = Ignore. There are some nice pros out there, so correspond with a few.

Much luck!

M
